Little Picassos

Well, two anyway.

Yesterday when I went to pick up the boys from daycare, I was happily surprised to see that they’d done their first artwork! They did fingerpainting on half the page, then it was folded in half to do a mirror image (and presumably blot up some of the excess paint applied by the overexuberant artists.)

Oliver was relatively restrained:

Miles went all out:

And Linus…well, Linus:

Aww!

Weekend

So I had a fun weekend with the boys. We went to Baton Rouge. I hung out with my cousins. (My baby cousin Molly has this gorgeous condo that I’m thinking of moving into. Maybe we can be squatters. She works a lot. She might not even notice. Yeah!)

We went to a baby shower for a high school friend who’s having twins. The boys were pretty well-behaved. We went with Ren, who kept them quiet by feeding them petit fours. Miles walked up to a group of older ladies, stood around with them while they chatted, then raised him arms up, demanding to be picked up. Of course he was indulged. How could one resist? (I suspect the fact that they were standing near the petit four tray had something to do with his desire to be picked up.)

But mostly, we hung out at Grandee and Larry’s house. It’s loads of fun for babies.

They loved standing at the backdoor waiting for Larry’s dog Snoopy to come by. (Yes, Linus and Snoopy. V cute, yes?) Then they’d either yell ‘CAT CAT CAT CAT!!!!” or “QUACK QUACK QUACK QUAAAACK!!!” at her.

And then Linus got her!

Sweet Oliver

Grandee, can we go outsiiiiiide??

Grandee also has a nice kitchen with lots of drawers in which to smush our fingers:

Now, off the subject. Anyone have any suggestions for recipes? Things that are easy and inexpensive to make? That the boys might eat? That don’t have celery in them? I need to branch out.

Stuff

Kristina said I needed to post again, so here I am, posting again. I feel like I don’t have a lot to say, but I guess I can come up with some stuff.
– We almost brought Linus to the hospital last night. This breathing stuff sucks. He’s much better this morning, though. It was just the same old stuff. He was having trouble breathing but once we got some steroids into him and some breathing treatments, he started sounding so much better. Thank you, my dear husband, for getting up with him at 1 am to give him that middle of the night treatment. 🙂

– I got new glasses! That’s not very exciting either. I kind of like them, but they’re not terribly feminine. Here’s a picture I took of myself with my cell phone this morning. They’re kind of crooked in this picture, though. Oops. And I’m fake smiling. Heh.
glasses

– We’re going to Baton Rouge tonight (me and the boys) because I have a baby shower to go to tomorrow. It’s for a friend from high school who is having twin boys. Now, I’d usually scoff at twins (pshhhh, so easy*) but she also has an older kid (2 or 3, I think) which adds a whole ‘nother dimension. So I shall not scoff. But I do love baby showers. There’s usually cake there.

– I’m also supposed to be going out with my cousins tonight, after the boys go to bed. That’s weird, I’ve never done that before. Should be fun. Am looking forward to it. Am not looking forward to getting up at 7 with the boys, though. I hope it’s an earlyish night. Hmm.

– Coldplay is coming to New Orleans! Eeeee! Am so excited. Hey, anyone want to babysit (actually, sit and watch TV while the boys sleep) on Tuesday, June 9? Pleeeeease?

Now for a few pictures. They’re kind of dark, because I had to use our old camera, which isn’t great.

Daddy, read us Goodnight Gorilla for the 3,429,761st time!

Well, at least someone knows where their nose is…

*of course I’m joking, my lovely friends with twins!

15 month stats

Well, I was waiting to post this until after the boys’ 15 month ped visit, but I keep leaving the sheet with the stats in the car, so I’ll just post approximations now and fix it later. Not like anyone really cares, right?

So at 12 months, these were their stats:
Linus: 20 lbs, 8.5 oz (10th-25th); 30.25″ long (50th-75th); HC 46cm (25-50th)
Oliver: 20 lbs, 12.5 oz (25th); 30″ long (50th); HC 47cm (50th-75th)
Miles: 19 lbs, 12 oz (10th); 30″ long (50th); HC 46.5cm (50th)

And now at 15 months: (holy cow, they have done some growing!)
Linus: 23 lbs, 15 oz (50-75th); 31.5″ long (50th-75th); HC 47cm (50th)
Oliver: 23 lbs, 8 oz (25-50th); 31.25″ long (50-75th); HC 48cm (75th)
Miles: 22 lbs, 3 oz (10-25th); 31″ long (50th); HC 47.5cm (50th)

So yeah, they’re growing! Wow!

And now, a few pictures from yesterday. (My point and shoot is broken, so while it’s getting repaired I likely won’t have as many pictures of the boys. These are from my big camera.)

15 months old!

Oops, I forgot to post this last week. Well, actually, I didn’t forget, I just didn’t have time in the midst of all the travelling and such.

15 months old

15 months old! Can you believe it? Not me. I still think that they haven’t changed much since they were 10 months old. What do you think?

10 months old!

Okay, maybe just a little. Heh.

Anyway, they’re doing SO MUCH right now. Just this morning, when I dropped them off at daycare, I noticed their teacher putting them at a table and chairs to eat! Not high chairs! And she asked if it was okay if they tried napping in cots instead of cribs. Ack! Where did my babies go??? They’re still babies. Heck, I’m still my mom’s baby. Right, mama?

Some more things they’re doing now that are heart-wrenchingly adorable…
– they know their nose. Oliver will even say “no” when he points to it. (Not in a negative sense, but in a shortened version of the word kind of way.)
– Linus knows his belly. Maybe they all do, but I haven’t seen evidence yet.
– they give hugs. Linus will walk up to you (if you’re sitting) and put his head on your chest or shoulder. While in California, Jennifer and I had him walking between us, giving us hugs and kisses. Ack!
– they give kisses. Open mouthed ones, of course.
– Oliver will put his hands out and repeat “All done!” if you ask if he’s all done. (So I suspect it’s more mimicking than actually replying, but it’s darn cute.)
– Miles and Linus are walking more than crawling
– Oliver is walking a bit, but is still more unsteady than his brothers
– Not something they’re doing, but I changed their carseats to forward-facing. I really wanted to wait until they were older, but because of the car situations while I was away, I had to turn them all around, and I really don’t want to turn them back. It’s so much easier to get them in and out now (but I know that’s not a good reason.) Anyway, it’s great to look in the rearview mirror and see them looking at me!
– They finally figured out how to splash in the tub, and it makes them giggle so much. It’s so cute.

I will probably end up adding more to this post throughout the day as I remember more cute things they’re doing.

Linus and Mommy go to California

I could make this a very long recap, but so that I don’t put everyone to sleep, I will make it snappy. But we did a lot, so it will be sorta long.

Friday
Got up while it was still dark out. Sob. Got Linus up and dressed and to the airport. Had much fun lugging 24 lb baby in Bjorn (over the weight limit, shhhh), suitcase, huge carseat, and diaper bag. Made it onto plane without incident. We were moved to Economy Plus (yay!) and had our own row, as well as empty rows in front of and behind us.

Linus was pretty good on the plane. Finally fell asleep as I rocked him while walking up and down the aisle. Whew!

After arriving, met up with some friends at a cute little park. That was awesome. Linus was the oldest kid there and he enjoyed showing off his walking skills. Nearly stole his friend Declan’s truck. After leaving that, I thought I lost my wallet. Found it. Whew!

Went with Evan to pick up Ellie from daycare. Cute story…she was sitting in the front office when we arrived. Evan thought she was in trouble. Turns out, the principal said she kept saying she was “waiting for Linus.” Principal thought Linus was imaginary friend? Didn’t know who she was talking about. Evan pointed out Linus, and confusion was cleared up. But how sweet that Ellie didn’t want to play with her friends, she wanted to wait for her baby cousin! Gaah!

Went back to their house, went to Trader Joe’s (why why why don’t they have them here? Hmmph.) and Evan cooked dinner. Linus likes slurping spaghetti noodles. There was much playing going on.

Friday
Went to Disneyland! Met up with Jennifer’s dad and brother and sister in law and nephews. Fun! Linus liked: teacups, cotton candy, fast rides. Linus did not like: strollers, lame baby rides that don’t do anything, mouse ears. Linus LOVED: It’s a Small World (it may be slow, but it’s eye candy for babies.)

Saturday
Went to the beach! Linus did not enjoy the water nor the sand, but did like the swings.

(he would not let go of my cell phone for practically the entire trip)

That evening, Linus and I took a trip to visit our triplet friends and their parents. So fun! I got really lost going to their house, though, and a trip that should have taken 15 minutes took almost an hour. Dang! So we didn’t get to hang out as long as I would have liked. But it was so great. I’m so glad we got to meet up! The kids played together, it was ridiculously cute. Brian and Cindy have genius babies, too. And next time I go, I may swap out one of my boys for Alexis. She’s such a girl! Ack!

Anyway, their triplets are just a few days younger than the boys, so Cindy and I were pregnant at the same time, and would comment on each other’s blogs all the time. It was so awesome to finally meet her and Brian and Alexis and Zachary and Jackson in person. I already felt like I knew them, so it was v comfortable, not awkward at all.

Sunday
Just a relaxing day. My old high school roommate Betsy came over, and we took a walk to Trader Joe’s. I’m telling you, it’s my second favorite store in LA (first being Paper Source.) Later, Jennifer and I went to Old Town Pasadena to go in some of the shops (like Tiffany) and have a snack at a cute little bakery place.

Meanwhile, Evan turned Linus into Linda.

Monday
Linus and I took the shuttle to the airport and had a thankfully uneventful flight home. He fell asleep literally as we took off, and woke up 3 hours later. Thank goodness there was a movie on the plane, even though it was about football. Better than nothing!

So now we are home. Linus was definitely happy to see his Daddy and his brothers, but I’m not sure Miles and Oliver even noticed he was gone. Ha!

Boo!

Okay, seriously. It’s clear someone’s been cheating hardcore, because Oliver is no longer in the running. I guess he was the 26th cutest baby in the greater New Orleans area. Oh well. It’s also obvious (duh) that people aren’t voting for the actual cutest baby, but for the baby they know. Although my brother actually said that he didn’t think Oliver was the cutest baby in the contest. WHAT? He said I could have picked a cuter picture. WHAT? Hmmph.

Anyway, thanks for voting everyone!

Linus’s turn!

Well, I guess he just didn’t want to be the odd man out. On Sunday, Linus started showing the same symptoms that earned Miles and Oliver a trip to the ER two weeks prior. I was in touch with his ped all day, doing everything we could to avoid the trip, but in the end, he needed to go. But this time, the lucky duck got admitted! So we spent the night in the luxurious digs of the Children’s Hospital.

Really, it wasn’t too bad. I slept on a “bed” (glorified window seat, really) that was approximately 2 inches longer than me. Next to a window on a freezing night. With a couple of thin blankets. But it could have been so much worse. I know this.

He’s fine now, just needed to get some breathing treatments and they wanted to monitor him. It’s funny, really. The three boys had pretty much identical symptoms, but got three different doctors at the ER. It just goes to show how doctors all have their different ways of treating the same illness. I have my own little experiment group here.

The doctor thinks he’ll be fine to travel with me to Los Angeles on Thursday. Fingers crossed! If not, I may have to make a substitution. Not that any of them know/care/will remember in 20 years. Tomorrow we have a follow-up visit with the ped, so we’ll see what she says.

Before the hospital visit, we had a really fun weekend. On Saturday, I took the boys to the zoo and met up with my friends Mandy and Mike and their 17 month old, Annabel. I’m just glad we went on Saturday! I just hope Annabel doesn’t end up sick. Linus was fine on Saturday, he only started acting sick on Sunday. At least it was only a cold, nothing major.

Linus and Miles are walking a lot more now. I will have to get a video of it…
