I heard there was a Mardi Gras store that sold fabric. After I got over my disappointment in ALL OF MY FRIENDS who didn’t tell me this anytime in the past two years, I drove across town to behold the wonder that is this sparkly stuff. I bought a few yards of it, and it is being transformed into a dress to wear to the parades as we speak. It is not, however, meant to be apparel fabric, probably more suited for decorations, but who cares?! It’s Mardi Gras! So I also got green satin to line it, and sometime in the coming days, you’ll see what I’m making with it. It’s definitely fun!

PS While writing this, I realized I sewed my first clothing item two years ago today! That’s nuts! What a fantastic two years it has been. 🙂

St. Baldrick’s hair chopping update!

It’s now been 15 days since I launched my fundraiser for St. Baldricks, and I’m more than 20% of the way to my goal. I’ve raised a whopping $1,155! That’s actually 23% of the way! Wow!

It also means I’m up to a chin-length cut.

Which, I mean, is fine. I’ve had chin length cuts in recent history. This doesn’t scare me. Four years ago:

I mean, it was that short when I ran the London Marathon in 2002! (Okay, that wasn’t necessary, I just like to brag.)

So yeah, no, I’m not scared about the haircut yet. You wanna scare me? Donate a bunch so I have to go really short again. This is what I picture looking like if I get to, say, $3,000:

I mean, I won’t be getting a perm so I suppose it’s unlikely. Also I don’t know where that bolo tie is.

Or $4,000:

Well, actually that’s kinda cute.

So let’s do it! Let’s get to $5,000 so I can look even cuter than that ^ while also helping raise a ton of money for childhood cancer research!

It’s super easy to donate – just go here!

image_5823c68f-5e34-4e94-b288-d1326cd16f9d.img_4387Funny story: I washed this glittery fabric so I could make a skirt out of it (a Helen’s Closet Donovan skirt) and, well, okay, the boys’ uniforms were in the same load. Linus pulled his shirt out of the dryer and disgustedly asked me why his shirt was sparkly. I just shrugged and played dumb. Don’t tell him!

Look! You can see the floor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s always so nice to have a neat sewing area. I got rid of a trunk that was where my ironing board is now, and I love being able to tuck it in that space.

One of the three carloads of stuff we brought to the thrift store. Getting rid of all this stuff feels SO GOOD!

Back in Natchitoches again. I mean, we were already in Alexandria for the archery tournament, it would just be a waste not to drive an extra hour to spend the night in Natchitoches and visit my high school again. The boys will be spending a week there this summer for camp, so I have two more drives up there this year.

I could not be more proud of Linus. His first archery competition (and the first for his school, and they’ve only been doing archery a couple of months, and not practicing a great deal) and he scored 207 out of a possible 300! Who knew he was a natural at this? Look at that arrow flying through the air! (It landed in blue, which is pretty good, if you ask me.) We have been calling him Katniss.

While the boys watched soccer in our room, Kiki and I watched the finale of Sex Education (highly recommend, but not with kids around) in her room on an iPad while drinking wine out of plastic cups. Cheers!

(We are traveling for an archery tournament for Linus. More on that coming up!)

Look how organized my shelves are! Kiki and I worked hard to get the dining room in order. I really don’t even have before pics of what a mess it was because I avoided taking pictures of this area – it was so cluttered. Now I have all of my Starbucks mugs on display!

He looks happy here, but rest assured he is most definitely not. We were at the vet. Time for shots! Poor buddy.
