School update, and our weekend

Friday was my first official Parent-Teacher conference at school. I was a bit nervous. Would their teacher lump them all together, or be able to tell me their individual strengths and weaknesses? Would I be able to understand her (she’s only been in the US since school started, so her English isn’t great)? Would I get a bad report about their behavior?

Happily, the conference went very well. Their teacher had nothing bad to say about any of them. In fact, she praised them highly and said they were very smart, and that they were always wanting MORE work to do. She mentioned something about putting them in the PreK-4 class sometimes, I think (this part was a little unclear) but I’m pretty sure she didn’t mean she wanted to move them up a grade. Just occasionally, I guess to challenge them.

She also was very clear on which boy was which, and she even commented on how different they are. (But not their faces, she said. Just their personalities. Ha.) What struck me was that the roles they take on at school are not like the ones at home. Miles, she said, is the most physical and the “leader” of the three; Linus is the most sensitive; Oliver is balanced in the middle. This surprises me, because at home, Oliver is kind of the alpha triplet, with Miles being sensitive and Linus being somewhere in the middle. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. They’re always switching things up. Give them a month, and Linus will be at the front of the pack.

So that was nice to hear. I was talking to another mom before I went in, and she said that she was talking to the aide one day, who told her that my boys were very smart. So third party confirmation!

After we left school, I took them to get “ice cream” (i.e., yogurt) at Pinkberry. They were more interested in eating the M&Ms on top than the actual yogurt, naturally. Don’t they look tough here?

Then they drew on the sidewalk.

Saturday was the two birthday parties I mentioned earlier, and it was also George’s and my sixth anniversary. The boys stayed at Granny & Grandpa’s and George and I went out to eat. Yum.

Mmm, cake!

Sunday, I tried to sleep in, but the stupid light woke me up too early. So I went to the gym, and then we picked up the boys and went to another birthday party. Afterwards, I took the boys to Barnes & Noble to play with the train table, but they only had 2 trains out. Grrr. My plan was to read magazines while they played for hours, but there is no peace when there are only 2 trains for 3 kids. Argh.

I didn’t really take my camera out at all this weekend. I think I needed to take a break. But I have some fun ideas for Christmas card pictures. Hopefully the boys will cooperate.

At birthday party #3 of the weekend, there was a faux "Hello Kitty" pinata. The boys clearly enjoyed whacking her with a stick.

We had two birthday parties scheduled for the day (both for little girls named Estella who were turning 3!) but the boys were ready to go to Granny & Grandpa’s after the first. So I obliged and went to the second party by myself. Maybe it sounds creepy, but I love going to kids’ birthday parties without my kids. Heh.

After the boys’ glowing review at today’s parent-teacher conferences, I took them to Pinkberry for "ice cream". They keep sidewalk chalk outside, so after we ate, I let them draw.

Here’s Oliver showing me what the face he drew is doing. So cute!

The light was so beautiful this afternoon, I’m so glad I had my camera with me. Look at my Ollie!

It’s hard to get all three boys to hold hands, and even harder to take a picture while they’re also holding yours.

11/08/11 a video by pyjammy on Flickr.

I have been videoing the boys a bit more lately, if only to catch the funny stuff they’ve been saying. This morning was just cute – they were blowing bubbles before we left for school.

Random stuff

Time for a wordier post, eh?

Let’s see…

– The boys have decided 3 am is a delightful time to wake up. I don’t think it’s related to the time change, I just think they’re insane. It might be related to the colds they have. One will get a breathing treatment, and the other two decide they want to get up too. It is not fun for anyone, least of all George, who has been getting up with him. (Thank you dear! I love you!)

– Therefore, I am tired.

– But somehow, they are not. This is a tiny preview of their nuttiness before bed last night. You’d think this would wear them out, right? Not so much.

– Here’s another fun video from yesterday. This was on the way to school. There’s not much to see, it’s more for the audio. It’s just full of randomness. Like, “I’m going to carve the turkey, then get in my car and go SUPER FAST!”

– On Sunday, I took pictures of my coworker’s family, which includes a set of 6 month old twin boys. They are the happiest babies ever. I seriously wanted to take one home with me. I was giving them eskimo kisses just to make them chuckle. Oh man, heart-melting.

Hug, brothers!

(This is them when they were teeny)

– This weekend, we have three birthday parties to go to. Strangely, two of them on Saturday are at the same park, for two little girls with the same name, both turning three. (Not related, and the parties are not at the same time.) (Obviously they’re not related. They have the same first name, not last name.) Anyway, yay! Cake!

– Which means the boys’ birthday party (also at that park) is in less than 4 weeks! Fortunately, I had the invites printed in August. I’m so efficient!

– Our anniversary is coming up on Saturday. Six years. Wow.

– Oooh, can you do something real quick? I posted a picture on FB to try to win tickets to a fancy party at City Park, and I need lots of “likes”. You don’t have to do anything, but “like” this picture. Yay, thanks!

Miles and Daddy having a moment.

Today was exhausting. Holy cow. The boys were up, destroying their room before 6. We just left them to it, because there was no way I was getting up that early. And then it was an all-day whinefest. So we did what any smart family would do, and went to a restaurant. Ah well, at least it was loud.

The boys’ school had a KaBOOM! playground build today. I dressed the boys in their costumes for the occasion. Can’t wait until Monday, when they can actually play on it!
