Superbowl recap, in pictures

(From a non-sports fan’s perspective.)

Since I lugged my camera around the French Quarter for Superbowl weekend, I am now going to regale you with stories and photos from the festivities. How’s that sound?

Saturday involved eating po-boys and the most insane gravy-soaked french fries I’ve ever tasted (now, WHY did I gain three pounds last week? Hmmm.) from Parkway Bakery & Tavern.

and of course, their famous roast beef poboys. Heaven. The boys stuck to french fries (not the gravy kind) and declined to eat the butter-drenched grilled cheese sandwich I got them. Ingrates.

So after lunch, we dropped the boys off at Granny & Grandpa’s house, and then we went back to get ready for dinner at Emeril’s. I didn’t take any pictures there, but oh man, it was amazing. It’s nice when a famous restaurant actually lives up to the hype, you know?

On Sunday, I met Anne and Kristina and Mike at the Royal Sonesta for brunch. Even though I was still kind of full from dinner the night before. But we managed to eat a little bit of the spread there. Just a little, of course. More insanely delicious food. Man.

After brunch, we just wandered around and people watched. The French Quarter was a sea of black and gold.

Soon enough, it was time to head back to Anne’s hotel where we had reservations to watch the game. (They’d rented out seats at the bar and so we watched the game on the massive projection screen there.)

It was fun, even though this very large hotel was woefully unprepared, nachos-wise. These are Terra Chips. NOT tortilla chips. A travesty.

So we get settled in with our festive beverages and wait for the game to begin…

Did a little face-painting:

And then it started!

Someone had the brilliant idea of taking sips of Jagermeister whenever we scored. Blech!

And then, we won!!!

Total strangers hugged:

After the game, we left the hotel to join the masses on the streets, celebrating. It was crazy, but unreal.

I wish I could have truly captured the atmosphere in the room at this moment, but it is impossible without sound. But it was incredible.

WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!

(Sorry I have to post this AGAIN, but until I can post my pictures from yesterday, this will have to suffice.)

The boys made quick friends with this family when we went to lunch. They were all eager to show her which DVDs they were carrying around, and she obligingly oohed and aahed over them.

Kiki and Uncle Mike seen here playing with the boys. The boys had so much fun with them before bedtime that they were just devastated to have to say goodnight. I’ll bet tomorrow morning is going to be cute when they see that their playmates are still here.

Help a Mama out…

Not me, but my friend Katie, who has twins, is participating in her local news stations’ Biggest Loser-type contest. I love Biggest Loser, so I’m really excited for her.

But she needs our votes! It’s really really easy to vote, no registering required. And you just need to vote once today and once tomorrow. 😀

Go here:

And vote for Katie under the “Determined Divas”. Voting ends tomorrow.

Thanks all!

And to think I was worried the boys would be shy around Aunt Kiki. In fact, we may have the opposite problem…

(Aunt Kiki = Kristina, my BFF who is in town for the Superbowl. Yay!)

Roughhousing with Daddy. I got this shot in right as Linus was kicking him in the face. Ha ha ha! Action shot!

(Don’t worry, no Daddies were seriously hurt in the taking of this photograph.)

Today you get a motion picture.

Oliver looks at Miles on the camera’s display, and then Miles looks at Oliver.

1 is easier than 3

With the very important caveat that you must have three in order to appreciate how much easier one is.

This weekend I took one kid to my mom’s for the weekend, while the other two spent time being spoiled mercilessly by Granny and Grandpa. As it happens, I took Miles with me. I plan to do this more often, and yes, next time Oliver or Linus will come, and then the time after that, whoever hasn’t been yet will come with me.

It was just so awesome. At the risk of sound unappreciative of my other two children, it was just so nice to be able to really focus on just Miles. I feel so often like I don’t know them well enough, as individuals. Is it because they’re identical? I don’t know, but I read so many triplet blogs where the mom or dad can easily reel off a list of differences between their triplets.

I mean, I know they’re different, but I have a hard time describing it, you know? It’s like when we had them evaluated for Early Intervention last year. They’d ask “is Miles pointing to objects?” and I’d confidently say “yes!” and then wonder to myself, “or was that Linus?” People will ask me “who’s the leader?” and “who talks the most” and things like that and I honestly have a hard time answering.

Hopefully these one-on-one weekends will help.

At least if someone asks me if Miles loves Teddy Grahams, I’ll be able to answer with confidence…

My mom enjoyed the one-on-one time too. But don’t worry, Linus and Oliver will get their share of Grandee storytime too…

[And can I just go on more about how fast it is to get one kid in and out of the car? And how nice it was to be driven around by my mom, who can fit one carseat into her car, but not three? And how it was great not to even have to bring a stroller with me? And how shopping was manageable? And bathtime? And mealtime? Okay, I’ll stop now.]
