Port Hudson Drive

For the first 17 years of my life, my home was at 5822 Port Hudson Drive. A four bedroom, two and a half bath brick ranch built in 1975. We moved out when I was in away for my junior year at Louisiana School, and I guess I never felt like I truly got to say goodbye. Or maybe at 17, I didn’t know I should. In any case, I’ve dreamt about it, and I’ve driven by it countless times. So when my mom told me it was for sale, I knew I had to see it. This past Sunday, there was an open house, and I brought the boys.

I expected it to make me really emotional. I have so many memories of that house. And of course of my dad. As it turns out, the whole experience was surprisingly unemotional. It was interesting, but I never felt like I was going to burst into tears or anything.

Wedding pics

Not mine, but my cousin’s. I actually went to two weddings that weekend, but I didn’t take very many at the first. Probably because my feet hurt too bad. They’re still healing. I wore slightly lower heels to my cousin’s wedding, plus I drank most of the gin in Baton Rouge, so due to less foot pain, I was able to take more pictures. Here you go. It was a gorgeous wedding, and super fun.

Our family, then and now

I have a pretty big family, and it’s rare to see lots of my cousins all at once, since everyone’s pretty spread out. Not everyone was at Molly’s wedding this weekend, but enough of us were to recreate some old iconic family pics…

At a family reunion in the early 90s, the girl cousins gathered. But where is Molly?

(thanks Rob, for standing in for my dad.)

Oh, there she is. So adorable.

Let’s go back in time a few years, to the eighth grade dance at the middle school I went to with my cousin Laura. Our cousin Rob was apparently our date. That’s not creepy at all.

We really haven’t changed much at all.

My mom told the boys Tuesday was Larry’s birthday, so they baked a cake. Larry’s birthday is in October. Any excuse for cake!

My baby cousin Molly is getting married next month, so I went to a brunch in her honor on Sunday. And I got to take home one of these flower-filled teacups!

(Of course, when I say “baby”, I don’t mean that she’s a child bride. Just that I’m old.)

George’s grandpa Sam passed away earlier this month, and we took the boys to his funeral. I was on the fence about taking them, but in the end, they behaved very well, and I’m glad they now have experienced a funeral of someone they love.

Our day in City Park

We were given a break from the EXTREME POLAR VORTEX-LIKE cold (I mean, people, it was in the thirties here!!!) on Sunday and decided to take the boys to the park. When we had our family pictures taken back in November, we found a little gem tucked away in the middle of the park (can something be tucked away in the middle? Well, this is.) A forest! I mean, not like we don’t have forest here, but we don’t have little hiking trails leading to little hills and overlooks of little bodies of water. It was a tiny little forest, just right for those of us who are less than outdoor inclined. Ahem.

Lots of walking…

So after our trek through the forest, we hit up Morning Call for some beignets. Yum.

Then a bit more playing…

And then some mini golf! I swear my dad was spinning in his grave. I guess I should have given them a little instruction before our trip. Ah well, they had fun! (And Linus got a hole in one on the last hole!)

I probably sound like an ad for City Park, but there really is so much to do. Next time, maybe we’ll bring our bikes!
