Three miles yesterday on the treadmill at the Metairie gym. It took about 35 minutes, but I walked a bit in the beginning to warm up, and then a little later so I could turn the pages on the magazine I was reading (it was a big magazine!) Felt pretty good, but didn’t do any arm muscle exercises afterwards because I needed to get home. May do thirty minutes today plus arm exercises. Won’t be in such a rush today so will have time to do that.

Had a strange dream last night, that my mom and I were both doing the marathon and we were sitting around chatting (with someone else, can’t remember who it was) so long that we missed the beginning of the race. I was very very upset with her for making me miss it. Was strange. Wonder what it means. Dreams are weird. I have a recurring theme in lots of my dreams, about staircases. They’re always dangerous – wobbly or missing steps or made of rotten wood or something. Sometimes I’m going up, sometimes down, but I’m always cowering at the top/bottom and am frozen with fear. Hmmm. Dang stairs.

Workout? What workout? Okay, this weekend was laaaazy. But whatever. Actually, only from the point of view that I didn’t work out. When I got home from work on Friday, I didn’t feel like doing much, so I decided to get some Vietnamese takeout for dinner and a movie. I didn’t want to rent from Blockbuster, and I knew there was a Major Video somewhere on the west bank, so I picked up my food and drove around to where I thought it was. Ninety minutes later, I was at the Blockbuster by my house after all. Couldn’t find the stupid Major Video. And all of this was because they have rent-two-get-one-free. So I did this to save $4? And my food was cold when I got home. On the other hand, I found a nice new Wal-Mart and got some yarn on sale to make a scarf for the silent auction. Nice chunky pink yarn. Then I watched some girly movie and started “Catch Me If You Can” which I really liked. George went out without me, and came over briefly to say hi. He stayed out until four or so, which is why I had no pity for him on Saturday…

We had plans to go to flea markets and thrift stores so he could look for a vintage Apple computer (god, geeks!). It was hot. It was humid. He was hungover. The flea market is mostly in a huge unairconditioned building. While I was uncomfortable, George was dying. Little sympathy from me, though. (Well, some…I’m not that mean!) After our (mostly unsuccessful – except I got a bag of gorgeous pale green real wool yarn, about 5-6 skeins for $4!) shopping trip, George went home to sleep and I went home to read. Then I went over to Terry and Rob’s house, ate some delicious Mexican food and then to the pub for a bit. A nice relaxing evening.

Sunday I spent driving around again looking for George’s birthday present. Found some stuff. Then his parents, grandpa and uncle came to the pub, we ate pizza and cake, hung out for a few hours, then went home. Read some more.

So maybe I didn’t technically work out, but Saturday involved a lot of walking and sweating, so it’s practically the same thing. Okay, maybe not.

I am a little confused about TNT. Here I was, waiting all week for a package of more information, and I get a letter that says “don’t miss the meetings” but no mention of when the meetings would be. And no information about how to take care of the money we collect, and all that other important information. Maybe I should just be patient, but I really want to get started! Aside from the jar on my desk with Blo-Pops in it and a sign that says “Free with 25 cent donation.”

Yesterday’s workout was a bit of a bust. Terry and I were going to go to the Navy gym, but she asked if I’d rather go bike-riding since it was a pretty nice day. I said yes, and found that my bike’s tires were low on air, so I asked her to bring the pump. Turns out I need a new inner tube thingy for the front tire. I’ve never actually ridden the bike, it was Kristina’s and she left it for me when she moved to DC. I’m not much of a bike person, but we’re going to try again today. Dawn’s going to loan me her bike. So we’re going to ride over to the Navy base and then run around the outdoor track there. Hope it isn’t too hot!

Did a bit over three miles on the treadmill today. Ran most of it. Again, walked a little so I could chat with Laurie. Am very excited because I am getting an mp3 player! Love the way it happened, too. A few days ago, I posted a message to the Dead Runners Society mailing list, and in it I mentioned (in passing) that two things I wanted most in life (materially speaking) were Lasik surgery on my eyes and a portable mp3 player to listen to while I’m running. And so this girl on the list wrote to me today, saying she’s getting rid of an old one, and do I want to buy it for $20? Heck yeah! I mean, it doesn’t hold much, but who cares, for $20?? I’m so excited!

And then, after the gym, I talked to Dawn and we set a date for the fundraiser at the pub. June 21. Mark your calendars! And, I know she thought I was a dork for saying this, but it’s the same day that the new Harry Potter book comes out, and I’m slightly worried that people will want to stay home with their book rather than go out. So, if the people I know are that pathetic (okay, what am I saying? I’ll probably have a copy of it behind the bar with me) I will be missing out on some funds. On the other hand, I’ve decided I could potentially turn this into a funny way to raise more money. Anyone who brings a copy with them to the pub has to donate a buck or two. Extra.

I guess I’ll move my blog now to this site. I consider my training unofficially started, because yesterday I did 4.5 miles on the treadmill. The most I’ve run at once since the half-marathon in February. Went really well. I should say, actually, that I only ran 3 miles of it. Laurie came and walked on the treadmill next to me after I’d run the three miles and I walked the rest so I could talk to her. So it was definitely an easy day. And the running felt easy, and great. I find that if I look at a magazine while I’m running, it goes by faster. Can’t read because I’m bobbling up and down constantly. Now, I know this probably isn’t the best idea, I’ll certainly never be able to read while running on a road, but whatever.

Am moving my blog over here so I can use it as a training blog, like I did for the London Marathon. So go! And no, the design isn’t complete yet. Cut me some slack!

Wish the weekend had lasted longer. Wish my brother and sister-in-law didn’t have to leave already. Wish I saw them more than once every two years. Sigh. But I had a good time this weekend. Friday I got home from work and Evan, Jennifer, Jenny, and Rob were sitting in their rental car in front of my house. They had been sitting there for an hour. Their excuse was that Jenny didn’t set her clock back an hour (from DC time) and though I said I’d be home by 6, they got there at 5. I really can’t believe that would happen, though. Not that Jenny would neglect to change her watch, but that Evan and Jennifer (and Rob) wouldn’t have caught it. Unbelieveable. Anyway, we hung out at my house for a bit. George came over, I introduced him to Evan and Jennifer, we all went to the pub to wait for the ferry. Took it across to eat at Pat O’Briens on the river, but it was closed. So we went to Cafe Maspero. Yum. Cheap. Good. Window-shopped a bit, then took the ferry back. Stopped by pub again, then we all (except George) piled into the rental, drove to the house where our Great-Aunt Sis used to live. We spent many (boring) childhood Saturdays there. We reminisced. Aunt Sis used to give us each a dollar when we left, which was always the most exciting part of our visit.

After that, we drove to Baton Rouge. Jennifer rode with me, we had nice girly talk. Then hung out for a bit with my mom, then went to sleep. Next day I ran some errands, helped get ready for the crawfish boil. Lots of people there. George came. Ate crawfish, hung out, relaxed, visited, etc, etc. Ate way too much yummy food. Was very full. Went to sleep after watching funny 80s show on VH-1. Evan kept singing along to the theme song.

Yesterday we took my mom to brunch. Nothing too exciting. We went to the mall afterwards, wandered around a bit. I bought my mom a ring for Mother’s Day. Evan hid from us and called me on my cell phone. “I’m in the garbage can…” It was funny. Well, you probably had to be there. Hung out for a bit after that, had burgers for dinner, went back to New Orleans. Sigh. Wish the weekend could have lasted longer. Wish Evan and Jennifer didn’t live so far away. I see Jenny and Rob relatively often, and I’ll definitely see them again in October, if not sooner, for the marathon, so it’s not as sad to leave them.

My mom gave me my dad’s wedding band. I’m wearing it on my middle finger. I am disgusted to note that it fits. My dad had large hands. So perhaps my middle finger is slightly larger than my ring finger, therefore my hands must be slightly smaller than his, but still. I have man hands!

Tonight is meeting for TNT. Am excited. Can’t wait! Am excited about running another marathon! Am not excited about running in the heat. But it’ll make me stronger (if it doesn’t kill me.) And I’m excited about fundraising even though, really, I hate asking people for money. So probably in a month or so, I’ll hate fundraising, but right now I’m ready to raise the dough! Woo! I’m pumped! har har.

Evan and Jennifer and Jenny and Rob are getting to Baton Rouge tomorrow. It sucks that I’ll be only 90 minutes from my brother and Jennifer, who I haven’t seen in a year and a half, but I won’t be able to see them. Not until Friday, anyway. We’re going to dinner, then to pub and just hang out a bit. Can’t wait. Have to clean my house. Thoroughly.

Last night George and I went to a sushi place in the quarter for dinner. Was yummy food, but service was bad. It’s too bad, too, because I think it’s the only sushi place within walking distance. No, that’s not true. Rock ‘n’ Sake is close too. A bit more expensive, though. But good. Tonight he’s cooking me dinner. Steaks. Yum. It’s the only thing I’ll let him cook me, besides frozen pizza. The boy needs cooking lessons. Only he doesn’t think so. Hmmm.

First date-iversary

Awww, happy georgiversary to me! (Okay, and pamiversary to George.)

Yesterday, I came home from work and there were a dozen beeeautiful hot pink roses on my kitchen table. Very very pretty. And by golly, that George managed to surprise me with flowers! Didn’t think it would be possible, as I dropped many many hints (ok, orders) that I wanted some. But he did surprise me, by giving them to me yesterday! So sweet. Love that boy. Can’t wait to give him his present tonight. I’m very excited about that. Yay!

Last night met Anne at the Mayfair. Haven’t been there in aaaaages, almost a year, probably. Was good to see her, wish we could have hung out more, but I’ll see her next month at the reunion. I forgot her birthday present, I’ve had it since her birthday in March, wanted to give it to her in person, but naturally I forgot. Silly. Joe Beck (went to LSMSA with us) came, he’s always entertaining, especially with the stories of his girlfriend. And then an old colleague of Anne’s met us. So the three of them, all lawyers, had a bit of lawyer chat. This always happens to me. I really really need to meet up with a bunch of graphic designers and ONE lawyer friend, just so they can see what it’s like. (Boring.)

Going to Kettie’s wedding shower in Baton Rouge tomorrow. Crawfish! Yum!

04/24/03

Yay! Am going to see Annie tonight! (Friedman. It’s hard to keep track of all the Ann(e)s in my life.) We were going to have dinner, but her mom made plans for her so now we’re just going to go out. Will be busy after work. Drive home in traffic. Go to gym with Terry. Drop laundry at George’s. Eat something. Meet her at 7:45 or something.

Exciting…Ren found out she got into the Marine Corps Marathon. (They have a lottery system for picking entries.) I just hope now that I don’t have a problem getting in via TNT, or I will be very sad. Well, the meeting is on Wednesday, guess I’ll find out then.

Am very sore from gym yesterday. So am only going to run for 35 minutes or so tonight. No muscle work today.

04/21/03

Am sleepy again today, but only because I didn’t sleep too well. This weekend was Easter weekend. A pretty relaxing weekend, overall. Friday after work I met Terry and we went to the gym. I did 20 minutes on the elliptical trainer and then worked my upper body on the weight machines. Could barely lift my arms after that. Felt great. Went to the pub later, everyone was commenting on my strange mood. Endorphins, I suppose. Was showing off my bulging arm muscles to all and sundry. Tee hee!

Saturday George and I went uptown for lunch. It was Crescent City Classic day, but I didn’t run it. Last year it was so hot, plus it was $25 to enter, I don’t have that kind of money to be throwing around. Particularly in light of my trip to DC and the multiple weddings, graduations, reunions, trips and other stuff that will suck me dry in May. But that’s okay. At least it’s going to be a fun month. I’m really looking forward to this week. Thursday, Anne is coming in and we’re going to go out. Friday is the anniversary, exciting, exciting. Saturday is Kettie’s crawfish boil/shower. Yay!

Oh, so back to this weekend. Saturday night we went to Taqueria Corona for dinner. Was very yummy, but was very very full afterwards. Hung out at pub for a few hours with Dawn, Annie, Megan, Terry, Robert, David, etc, etc. George went home because he wasn’t feeling well. Saw Cindy (marathon partner?) and made plans to run on Sunday at 1. Crazy time to go running, and I was glad when she stood me up. I ran a mile around the neighborhood, then had to stop before I suffered a heat stroke. Oh, this is going to be really fun, training for a marathon in the summertime! Yeesh.

Went to George’s parents’ house for Easter dinner. Was very nice. Met his grandpa, who is adorable. I wish I had a grandpa. Hmmph.
