We walked around today in between working, and it was a gorgeous day. So I’ll share all of those pics when I get home in a big ol’ post but for now, my best purchase of the day (and I bought dreamy fabric so you know this is a big deal) is a copy of Notes from a Small Island in Portuguese. Look, I know I can’t read Portuguese, but that’s neither here nor there.*

* if you’re a Bill Bryson fan, you’ll get the joke.

I went to a Benfica game with two of my teammates last night. It was fun but nerve wracking. They are the top ranked team and they played the bottom ranked team and were losing for much of the game. Pulled it off and won 2-1, thank goodness.

In related news, I think the boys are mad at me for going to a game. But I did get them souvenirs, at least.

Enjoy the giant head in front of me, btw.

Today I am 45 years old. I like sewing and pizza and sweet tarts. My best friend is Kristina.

It was a good birthday. We worked a lot but also went grocery shopping which is my favorite thing to do in foreign countries. We also ate yummy food. They sang Happy Birthday to me in Portuguese at dinner. It was nice.

It’s been a very very long day (I mean two, technically, but when you’ve only slept for one hour of the last 33, it counts as one day right?) but we went out for a walk and ended up renting these Uber scooters and riding them around this empty plaza and IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!

Flew to Lisbon, and met up with my teammates Beckett and Erica in Newark, where we had a five hour layover. I had jackets made for our team, since we have a new name (HappEx, which is short for Happiness Experience.) (Happiness is our support team.) I am very tired.

All packed up for my work trip to Lisbon tomorrow. I know, you don’t have to tell me, my job is the worst. Oh yeah, and I’ll be there for my birthday. So rough, I tell ya!

Look! It’s our house! Sorta. Oliver is building a model of it for a school project. Not bad, eh? Windows and doors and other details will be added tomorrow.

01/04/2020 (145 months)

We made a quick trip to Baton Rouge, just for the day, so the monthly picture was taken in front of Grandee’s garage door. Could they be any more handsome? Possibly I am biased, but I think not.

In a few days, I’ll have to take down my paper Christmas village until next year. Maybe next year I’ll get a snowman that’s more to scale. Or maybe this village is being terrorized by a twenty foot tall snow monster. Who knows?

2019 in review

This year sure went fast!

I read about 100 books. (I didn’t keep track, but I think it’s safe to say 100.)
I sewed a million things. (Who knows? I also didn’t keep track.)
I went on 3 trips. (Serbia, Virginia/NY, Orlando)
I worked out at Orangetheory 85 times.
I wrote 46 blog posts (shameful!)

In 2020, I hope to read just as many books, and I probably won’t keep track of them. I’ll keep sewing, and hopefully I’ll get better about keeping track of my makes. I’m definitely going to travel more (Lisbon this month, Vienna in the spring, hopefully the UK in the summer, and Orlando again in the fall – all but one are work trips.) I have a goal of averaging 3 OTF workouts a week, but let’s say 150 workouts throughout the year. And since I’ve started another 366 project, my blog post count should definitely go up!

Tamales for breakfast. Tamales I helped make, thank you very much. (And thanks to Terry for doing the real work.)

Ten years ago, I started a 365 project, and kept it up for three years. That’s a photo a day, every day. I think I’m going to try it again this year. (Admittedly, I had a few failed years after that, so let’s hope it doesn’t end up unsuccessful again.)

Yeah, this is our ceiling. New year, new ceiling. (Thanks to a toilet overflow in the upstairs bathroom.) I hope (but don’t promise) that future photos will be more exciting.
