Loss!

Woo! Lost one pound this week! So even though I ate a bunch of chocolate in the past few days (I’ll take the easy way out and blame PMS), I still lost! I think it may have something to do with the little bit of running I did last week and the cleaning frenzy of the weekend that resulted in probably 539 trips up and down the stairs. Yay for my two story house!

Ew. I have a cold. Last night I slept with one of those Breathe-Right strips on my nose, and may I just say…magical! Except that I woke up this morning thinking my cold had gone away, and then when I took the strip off in the shower, I realized my nose was still stuffed up and congested. But between the strip and the new white noise machine we got for opening a joint checking account, I slept…well, still lousy. But better lousy.

Last night we took Stinky to Petco to get her nails trimmed and Soft Paws put on her nails. It was very painful. For both of us, I think. Well, I don’t think it was exactly painful for Stinky, but she definitely didn’t like her paws being handled. It’s my own fault for not getting her used to getting her nails trimmed. But now she has cute pink nails and she looks beautiful! And now she can’t take swipes at me as I walk by and draw blood on my leg. Wonderful!

Easter dinner went well. Now I’m sick though. When I get pictures back from my mom’s friend, I will post them…

Oh. Do you know how it is when you find out that people whose writing you really admire have been reading your blog? The one you think makes you sound not-so-bright? (But for real, I’m pretty smart! I got a 1460 on my SATs! Eleven years ago, sure.)

So if you like delving into the lives of others who you may have nothing in common with, or you may have a lot in common with, check out the links on the right…

(Note to good writers: I think my best blogging was back when I was training for the London Marathon. This may sound weird, but I think it’s because I was single then. And a bit more bitter. Which makes for pretty good writing, for me. Even though it’s mostly about running.)

I think I’m getting sick. Great timing. I’m sure our Easter dinner guests will appreciate me coughing and getting my germs all over their food. Ha ha, Mom, only kidding if you’re reading this!

George and I went last night to buy the food we’ll need for Easter dinner. Am excited about it. Need to get stuff today to make little Easter baskets and also jelly beans to decorate my bunny cake. Will be sure to take pictures.

Woo! Lost 2.4 lbs this week. Yay! Lost almost all of what I gained last week. Sigh. I think the trick is not to drink too much water during the morning before the meeting. So I was dehydrated…who cares? Okay, only kidding. I just didn’t drink as much water as I usually do.

Then I blew it at a lunch with baked potato and a piece of fried fish. Whatever. Am running this afternoon with Polly. Still have 3 points left for the day.

I think I really have to make more of an effort at tracking what I eat. I’ve noticed that I gain when I don’t track. It’s like I think that if I don’t write it down, I didn’t really eat it. And then it won’t make me gain weight. But that’s just ridiculous and I’m sabotaging myself.

Well, enough of that. I think I have Easter dinner figured out now. I’m trying to keep it relatively low in points, and cheap, but we’ll see how it goes. I’m going to get a ham, then I’m going to make scallopped potatoes, roasted green beans, and maybe a trifle for dessert. It should be all somewhat low in points (if I can decide on a low-point scallopped potato recipe) but my boss gave me the idea for an Easter bunny cake (v. retro) which wouldn’t be low in points but would be v. cute. Hard to decide.

Ooh, just got a gorgeous camel colored cashmere shawl from one of the sales reps at our company. He and his wife went to China and sent us all back these shawls. Only wish it wasn’t April so I could wear it. Maybe I’ll be able to wear it to our two year anniversary dinner, which is coming up in less than three weeks. Woo!

Did I mention my mom suckered me into hosting Easter dinner? For eight people??? In a house I will have owned for 18 days?

Oh yeah, I forgot to write about the funny Stinky (the cat) incident that happened this weekend.

At about 4 o’clock Sunday morning, George woke me up. He had been sleeping on the couch in the living room because he wasn’t feeling well and was woken up by a terrible scratching sound.

In our kitchen, we have a tall cabinet that is part of the built-in units that we use as a pantry. It doesn’t go all the way to the ceiling and the unit isn’t flush against the wall, either. There are about 6 inches between the back of the pantry and the wall, and about a foot between the ceiling and the top of the cabinet.

Stinky, being the curious cat that she is, managed to get behind the pantry, between the wall and the unit. And she couldn’t get out. So she was scratching and clawing and trying like hell to get out. George heard this, figured out what was going on, and woke me up in a bit of a panic.

I’m bleary but freaked out, so we remove the food from the top shelf of the pantry and realize that, short of busting out the back of the pantry, we won’t be able to get Stinky out. We are investigating other methods of removal, getting more and more frustrated, when above our heads, out pops Stinky.

George would have strangled her, I’m sure, had I not been around, but I was just glad she got out. (With no harm to herself or our lovely new house.) It was pretty funny, but I don’t think George has realized that yet.

Am…very…sleepy. Think I’ve figured out why I don’t sleep so well at the new house. I think it’s too quiet. I need more white noise. At my apartment, I had my ceiling fan and my window unit fan going, which was pretty loud. Just the ceiling fan (and central air) is too quiet. Hmmm. Must figure something out. Did manage to sleep for about 10 hour on Saturday night, though. But that would be because I got up at 6:30 am on Saturday after not enough sleep, had the garage sale, drove to Mandeville, had lunch with Ren and her family, then came home. Stayed up until 1:30 in the morning, too. Watching digital cable. Loooove digital cable.

Chris came in this weekend, we had lots of fun. After I picked him up on Friday night, we stopped by the pub for a beer, then went to sleep in order to get up early for aforementioned garage sale.

Didn’t do too badly at the sale, managed to make about $60, but more importantly, got rid of a bunch of crap. Bought some things, though, but good things. A small orbital sander, a fix-it book, a novel I’ve been wanting, a home decorating book, and a set of $5 bookshelves that we had to get home in my Corolla by leaving the back door open. Too funny. I thought George just might strangle me. (Perhaps my spatial sense isn’t the best and I should have known that a 6′ tall set of shelves wouldn’t fit in my 3′ deep trunk. Whatever.

Anyway, all in all it was a good sale. Then Chris and I went to Mandeville, saw Ren and Gary and her goofy family (in a good way) and ate a yummy (and possibly, except for the homemade chocolate cake and ice cream, low in points) lunch, then went back to New Orleans. I whined enough about being exhausted that Chris let me get out of going out in the Quarter.

Sunday, Chris and I had sushi for lunch, then George and I bought our tree and I dug a hole (more fun than I thought it might be) and planted the tree. A Bradford Pear. Named Kristina. Got my first shovel. Later that night, hung curtains and blinds on the front door/window.

Tonight, I weed-whack. Fun.
