Urgh. Drank too much last night. Kristina and I went to the Bulldog for dinner and beer after I got home from work, because it was her last day of class, ever. Last day of law school! Last day of exams! Everything. So after work, I went for a run, about 35 minutes or so, some walking involved, some running, but whatever. Then we went to the Bulldog and proceeded to drink a pitcher of beer each and so today I’m tired. Not hungover, thanks to the Hangover Hero we had stashed in our cabinet, but tired.

Kristina left for Virginia today for her eye appointment. I hate it when she leaves. At least this time Ren and Gary are in town, so I’m not completely on my own.

Strange thing happened at work today. Steven Haedick, a guy we went to high school with, called Big Easy Seafood to order crawfish. So he calls and says “This is Steven Haedick” and I just repeat “Steven Haedick? Steven Haedick! Steven Haedick?” and he was probably thinking “why is this woman repeating my name incredulously?” But then I identified myself and then we chatted a bit. Very strange.

Tonight George and I are going to see the 3-D space movie at the IMAX place. woo hoo! 3-D!

Had a nice, relaxing weekend. Didn’t work on my resume. Oops. Well, I have an appointment with a temp agency next Monday, so I have a deadline now. Kristina finished her exams today. Exciting! She’s leaving for DC tomorrow, though, for the rest of the week. She’s getting laser surgery on her eyes as her graduation present. Bleccch. I’d rather wear glasses forever.

This weekend I’m going to work on my resume. Kristie gave me the names of some placement agencies in Boston and I’ll talk to them next week or the week after. Or something. Whatever. At least I have a sort-of plan in place. Although I love the idea of just being able to bum around all summer, not having a plan for the end of it (i.e., when our lease runs out and most of my friends move away) makes me nervous. I still have to tell my mom, though. I’m not sure how she’s going to take it. At least it’s not England.

Not sure what I’m doing this weekend. Kristina has an exam on Monday morning (her last of law school…woo hoo!) so she’ll be studying most of the weekend. Ren and Gary are in Richmond. I may go running this afternoon, but it’s so hot right now! As long as it cools down some, I’ll be fine, but even the thought of exercising outside right now is painful. Blech. In the Boston guidebook I have, it says the average temperatures in July are 65-82 F! Ack! Average highs of 82??? Holy crap! That’s practically the low here now! And it’s only May! Of course, the lows in the winter are decidedly lower than the lows here, but that’s okay. I like cold weather. Much better than hot weather. At least you can bundle up in cold weather.

Ran/walked around the park yesterday. Went an extra quarter mile, for a total of two miles. Yeesh. I need air conditioning!!! I wasn’t unhappy with the distance I ran, though, I think it was better than Wednesday. The heat won’t be letting up anytime soon (i.e., until at least October) so I don’t know how much I’m going to improve this summer. (Hmm. That’s not a good attitude, is it? I’m going to improve lots!) The only problem is, I may improve this summer, but I won’t see the results until the weather cools off.

But…I think I may start looking at jobs in Boston. I want to leave New Orleans, I have to get out of Louisiana, and Boston seems ideal. Kristie and Joanna are there (and Devra, but not much longer) and New York isn’t far away, and people are more intelligent there, and hey, there are probably a million pubs in Boston, and the weather’s cooler, and it’s a great running city. Oh, and most importantly…cheap flights to England!

Today I’m training my replacement at work, which is cool (but at the same time kind of strange) because it’s Ren’s cousin Shelley’s husband Jimmy. I’m glad I don’t have to train a complete stranger. Usually, training someone is hellish (I’m a horrible teacher, it’s my fault) but this is not bad at all.

Ran yesterday in the park. Only ran 1.5 miles. But ran the whole time, and pretty fast for me, too. 18 minutes. 12 minute/miles. In this heat, it’s probably like 8 minute miles in the cold. Or so I’ll tell myself. Going to go again this afternoon. Hopefully I’ll be able to run a little further today. I don’t think I was ideally hydrated yesterday, so this afternoon I’m going to drink lots more water and see if that helps.

Strange thing: I still haven’t deleted the splits from the marathon from my running watch. I don’t want to! I know I have them recorded, but when I look at them on my watch, it’s like being at the race all over again. Silly. But by not erasing them, I can’t really use my watch while running. Oh well. I’m just not ready yet!

Hobbes

I love Calvin & Hobbes. And apparently, I am Hobbes. Two years after I got a tattoo of them, they were cancelled. A very sad day, indeed. And my children are going to think I’m really weird. But I found this…

You are Hobbes!
You’re a bit too mellow to be an incarnation of Calvin, but you’re still his best pal. You don’t mind having fun, though, and enjoy playing tricks on your friends when they least expect it.
Take the What Calvin are You? Quiz by contessina_2000@yahoo.com!

Nice. :)

Lovely dinner last night. 🙂 Yeah, I can make a mean pot of jambalaya, thanks to Oak Grove Jambalaya Mix. (I’m not going to lie. I’d never make jambalaya from scratch!)

So this afternoon I’m definitely going running. Am going to sign up for a race today. Need a concrete running goal!

Month of change

Whew! Who knew your entire life could change in a week or so? I suppose I should say month. April has been a month of change for me, that’s for sure. Run a marathon. Change careers. And that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceburg. So yes, yesterday Sarah and I amicably decided to part ways. Best for everyone. The company, particularly. The wine side of things is taking off more than MardiGrasStore.com ever can (well, it’s not like wine is seasonal) so my job has become a bit less important. Which I’m perfectly fine with. I’m excited about exploring new career possibilities. (wow. how cliche’d can i get?) Anyway, that’s my big news now. Wish I could say I’ve been running since Saturday, but I have not. Yesterday was kind of hectic, and tonight I’m cooking dinner for Ren and Gary and Kristina and George. So maybe tomorrow. Oh yeah, and the tenth is my last day, and since Kristina will be free the following week (the week before graduation) I’m not going to have a mini-vacation that week. Woo! Well, I do have a dentist’s appointment on that Tuesday, so it’s probably for the best that I won’t be going to work all drooly and numb and spitting blood like I did last week. Ew. And I can interview at some temp agencies, which is what I think I’m going to do for the summer. After all, this may be my last summer to do something like this. Wish I had lots of money saved up. Then I’d go back to London. Sigh.

April 29, 2002

Lovely weekend! 🙂 (sigh!)

Went to the park on Saturday afternoon, did about 2.5 miles, but it was so hot and humid, I only ran about 3/4 of it. Blech. I don’t know what I’m going to do about running this summer. I have no idea how I did it last summer. I really do need to start looking around at gyms. But I don’t know where I’ll be living after our lease is up, and I don’t want to end up on the other side of town from the gym. Hmmm. Oh well. Will figure that out later. I’m broke now anyway, so it’s kind of a moot point.

Recovery run

Only managed eight minutes around the neighborhood after work yesterday, but hey, better than nothing! Am really tired today (late night last night, but worth it) so I don’t know if I’ll manage another run this afternoon or just save it for tomorrow. Hey, I’m still recovering!

April 25, 2002

Okay, didn’t run yesterday either, but I did spend my afternoon hauling 40 lb boxes of beads around, and I got really sweaty, so we’ll count that as upper body work/a little cardio in there. But I’m definitely going for a few loops of the park this afternoon.

I put more pictures up on my marathon report.

Post-dentist

Didn’t run yesterday, as expected. My mouth is still a little sore this morning, but I hope I’ll be up to running this afternoon, as long as John doesn’t mind being deserted for a little while. I think he can handle it. Hey, we have digital cable, after all! I want to run after work tomorrow, too, but George called last night and we’re going to dinner and then go to pub quiz night at the Crown & Anchor tomorrow night, so I don’t know if I’ll have time. Maybe I can squeeze in a couple of loops of the park after work. We’ll see.
