It’s been too long

What’s up? Why haven’t I been blogging? Is it that life is boring? Maybe a little. I mean, not that that’s a bad thing. Or maybe it’s been busy? Or maybe I just don’t want to sit in front of my computer when I’m not working? Maybe all of those things all at once?

(I started this post two days ago. What is wrong with me?)

Okay, here’s some random stuff we’ve been doing:

I chaperoned a field trip to the swamp and we saw lots of gators! Yay! Finally!

I finally sent Kiki the skirt we bought the fabric for in January. Egads. Look at the frogs and the flies!

The boys and I did a 5K! Oliver and Linus ran the whole thing (!) and finished in about 34 minutes. Miles and I walked with Jen and Ethan and took about twice that. It was fun. Oh, and it was the Pink Bra Run to raise money for breast cancer research, hence the…bra on the outside of my clothes.

The boys had an end-of-season soccer party. It was kind of sad, but also cemented all of the reasons in my head we decided not to do competitive soccer again next year. I mean, we may go back one day, but probably not to the same club. Anyway, the coach had shirts made for all the boys, which was so sweet.

George and Rob celebrated their birthday and I made them a cake. (Chocolate stout.) Aren’t they cute?

For Mother’s Day, I got cards from the boys (and breakfast from Chef Ollie!). Later I had poke for lunch (yum) and went to see a movie with Steph and Terry (our Mother’s Day tradition.) It was pretty nice.

Look at this beauty! My aunt passed on to me my grandmother’s old sewing machine! Isn’t she beautiful? I’m still working on getting it sewing, but I am stuck on bobbins. I’ll figure it out. I also need a table to put it in. I found the one its sitting on, but it was made for a different machine, so I need the table to be modified so this machine will fit in it. Anyway. Soon, I hope to be sewing with it! It’s pretty incredible. It’s from 1950.

As far as Me Made May goes, it’s been a success in some ways, and a fail in others. A success in that I have worn something I’ve sewn every day. A fail because I haven’t taken pictures every day. But just picture this cardigan, which I absolutely adore, worn over everything, all the time, every day. It’s the Helen’s Closet Blackwood Cardigan in this lemon knit I got at Joann’s. I’m obsessed. (Need to get a better pic, though.)

Mother’s Day 2015

It’s only 9:45 in the morning, and it’s already a winner. I got to sleep in (thank you melatonin) and I was presented with a plethora of cards and gifts upon arising.

Look, I love presents. A lot. But I can honestly say that there is nothing I love more on Mother’s Day than a pile of handmade cards and drawings. I want no other gift.

Some highlights from today include:

A family drawing from Miles, with a list of what he loves about me and George on the back (they combine Mother’s Day and Father’s Day since they won’t be in school in the summer, but George lets me keep them on my desk.)

A photo of Linus with his hands in a heart:

A card from Oliver with some nice (I guess) things about us in French:

There’s also a list of 10 8 things that Miles loves about me (he assured me he ran out of time, not things)

and then Linus, who brought the tears:

You have to love the honesty of kids, don’t you?

I’m not going to publish this right away, because I’m still waiting for the other requirement of a great Mother’s Day: a photo of me and the boys. Preferably one with only four chins between the four of us. We’ll see how that goes.

Editor’s note: it went fine. Always get a friend who understands how to minimize multiple chins to take your photos. Also, I think I need a new dress.

We won! and Mother’s Day

It was a seriously close contest at the end, but I managed to beg for enough votes to beat the adorable Jack and Sumner and beautiful Katie and Charlotte in the Multiples…and More contest. The hard part about winning is that I know these other kids (well, their mamas), but at least I had fair competition, unlike in that radio station contest Oliver was in. Hmmph.

Now to recap our weekend and my lovely Mother’s Day…

(semi-)Nakey babies!

(sorry, just a random picture I wanted to include.)

Had a nice weekend. We brought the boys to their grandparents’ Friday afternoon because George was alllllll excited to see Star Trek. I mean, the man was shaking with excitement, I’m not kidding. I am not a Star Trek fan, but I agreed to go. After he begged me. Ha. And it wasn’t bad. Considering.

Saturday, I slept sooooo late, it was awesome. Did not much at all. Played some Super Mario Galaxy, went to the gym, did a little grocery shopping, a little organizing. But mostly lazed around. Then George took me to dinner for Mother’s Day. We went to a yummy Belgian place where I had steak + frites. Yummmmmmmmm. Then we went to the pub and stayed much later than we should have.

Got up Sunday morning, and went to get the boys. We all drove to the zoo, where my mom and Larry were meeting us. It was, pardon the pun, a zoo. I think it’s the busiest day of the year. It was insane. I was so glad we had a membership because the lines to get tickets were insane.

It was so freaking hot. The boys were good. Oliver would only let my mom or Larry hold him, which was so cute. He wouldn’t even let me hold him! Ha ha!

After that, we went to IHOP for lunch. Fortunately, it was empty, so we didn’t have trouble getting a table. The boys were really good there. They were being really cute.

Miles:

After lunch, we went home. I filled up a baby pool that I bought yesterday, put the boys in their bathing suits, squirted some J&J bubble bath in the pool, and let them go to town. I think I found a new way to bathe the boys! Heh.

And then I tried to get a decent picture of me with the boys. FAIL.

All in all, a very nice Mother’s Day. Hooray!

My first Mother’s Day and 5 month stats

Hope all the mommies out there had a nice Mother’s Day. Mine was pretty good. The weather was beautiful, our moms came over, and we ate steak. It was nice. The boys posed for a picture with me. I think it’s probably the last time I’ll be able to hold them all at the same time. They’re getting so big!

On Friday the boys had their five month ped visit. They’re huuuuge! And the biggest news is that Linus is now bigger than Oliver!

Linus: 15#12oz (25-50th); 26″ long (50-75th); HC 42.5cm (25-50th)
Oliver: 15#11oz (25-50th); 26.5″ long (75th); HC 43cm (25-50th)
Miles: 15#0.5oz (25th); 26″ long (50th); HC 42.5cm (25-50th)

Miles is now rolling both ways. Oliver can roll front-to-back and so can Linus, I think. I’m not sure if I’ve witnessed those two doing back to front like Miles. They’re all babbling all the time, and the best part is to each other. It’s so cute to watch. Oliver is a champion thumb-sucker. They now sleep unswaddled, just in their sleep sacks, which has made for some rough nights lately. Like last night. Let’s just say I’m wearing my glasses today, not my contacts. That’s something I only do when I can’t have the weight of contacts weighing down my already heavy eyes. Zzzzz.

The ped says when they start eating solids, they should drop their middle of the night feeding. Man, I hope so. They still show no interest in eating off spoons:

Obviously, they don’t mind having it around their mouth. Just not in it.

Linus had pinkeye last week. He looked like a pirate. Arrrgh!

On Sunday, the boys are getting filmed for the news again. Did I already mention that? Anyway. Exciting! I’ll post more details when we have them.

Edited to add: Just goes to show how tired I am. I already posted their new stats. And about the news thing. oh well. zzzzzz.
