I made my nieces quilts in their college’s colors when they went off to school, and so of course I had to make them for the boys.
For all three, I used patterns by Kitchen Table Quilting.
Linus: The Irene

Oliver: The Luna

Miles: The Vivian

I’d say the most notable thing about these quilts was that I had them professionally quilted. I pieced together the tops, which is the most time consuming part (but also the most creative.) I only had a few weeks to finish them, and when it came time to quilt them (that is, to sandwich a layer of batting between the top and the solid-colored back) I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. It’s such a pain to put the pieces together so that they’re even and not folded up or messed up, and then to get it sewn together without the pieces shifting or bunching up is a miracle.
So I spent a pretty penny sending them off to the good folks at Sundance Quilting, and the lack of stress, the fun stitching pattern, the incredible results made it worth every single cent. I just had to bind the edges after I got them back, and that took no time at all! I highly recommend them if you need something quilted. (They use these giant, massively expensive sewing machines called longarms for this.)
I was a little worried the boys might be embarrassed to have blankets their mommy made for them on their beds, but kids these days just don’t seem to care. Or maybe I just have especially sweet kids.
