Babies, babies and MORE BABIES

In the course of eight days, I photographed 6 babies. That’s a lot, especially considering I’m not a professional. There just happened to be a lot of babies born in the last month or so in my circle of friends and acquaintenances. I know I’ve already posted some photos, but I just wanted to share some more sweet babyness.

My birthday buddy!

I already posted a picture of Ann Fran from Saturday, but here are more from our big photo shoot. Love this baby!

Favorite shots of 2011

So much of this year centered on photography for me. I worked on improving my skills, both with the camera, and with post-processing. I took more photos of other people’s babies, too. These are my top ten (in no particular order, I don’t think) photos of 2011. It’s true, you’ve seen them all before, because most of them were part of my 365 in 2011 project.

In 2012, I want to improve on my candid photography, and work on focusing. Focus on focusing. Har.

2011 in review

Well, 2011 is over, so let’s briefly recap…

January
When the year started, the boys had just turned 3. They were still sleeping in cribs, and still in diapers. Looking back, it’s hard to believe how far they’ve come in a year.

In January, though, they were potty-trained. And it was pretty easy. Whew.

My back was hurting from the disc I herniated in December.

February
The boys moved into their big boy room. Another transition that went a thousand times better than I expected. I think it’s because we waited until they were older, but who knows why, really.

My back was hurting, and I had a steroid injection that made it worse. Bleh.

Favorite photo of the month:
I didn’t take it, but it’s of my sweet nephew Andrew.

March
I spent a weekend in Savannah with girlfriends. My back hurt.

April
I visited my new nephew Andrew (and my niece and sister and brother in law, etc) in Virginia.

I had back surgery. It was the best thing I did all year. My pain was instantly gone, and the recovery wasn’t too bad.

May
Took photos of my coworkers brand-new identical twin boys. (Yeah, don’t drink the water in my office!)

June
Went to Boise for work. My sister and her family came to visit for our cousin’s wedding.

July
The boys took swimming lessons. They made huge improvements in the week of lessons, but by the end of the month, they were back to refusing to swim. Sigh.

August
We went to Virginia for Andrew’s christening. Everyone was sick, and I got barfed on on the plane, so it wasn’t the best trip ever, but we ended up having a great time anyway.

I sent in audition tapes for a new reality show, and I get “pitched to the network” but I never hear back from them. Boo!

And the boys started school at a new French Immersion school.

September
Nothing major happened, we were just getting used to our new schedule and routine. Oh, wait, my friends’ restaurant had its grand opening. That was pretty exciting.

October
Same old, same old. The boys were construction workers for Halloween.

November
Passed in a blur. Spent Thanksgiving with my family. George and I celebrated our sixth anniversary.

Also in 2011:
– Construction began on the building across the street from our house in April. It is supposed to be completed by April 2012, and I cannot wait. I’m tired of the workers, the cars, the mess, the dirt, but it’ll all be worth it when it’s complete.

– I got more serious about photography. I never want to go into business as a photographer, but I do enjoy photographing my friends’ kids. Just for fun. And related to that, I completed another 365 project! I was all set to not do one in 2012, but I think I’ll just see how it goes. That’s what I did in 2011, and look where that got me!

The boys in 2011:
– Were obsessed with Cars for the first half of the year, and Thomas for the second half.
– Started pre-K at a French school and can count past 10 and know their colors in French.
– Got even pickier, food-wise.

So overall, I’d say it was a good year. Hopefully 2012 will be even better!

I Heart Faces – Let them be little

This week’s photo challenge had me going way back in my archives. Before I was really into photography. This one was no doubt shot in automatic mode.

Anyway, it’s the boys at 6 days old. They’d just been moved into the NICU’s step-down unit, and put into one crib together. They were all home within a week.

Gaaah, I can’t believe they were ever this tiny!

As you can imagine, I don’t have many pink pictures in my photostream, This one is of my friend’s daughter Millie, whose birthday party theme was PINK. Perfect!

This week’s challenge is in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.

LSMSA class of ’93 rocks!

(or, we’re a giant bunch of dorks.)

This was in front of our high school building. Look at that air we got!

I set up my new backdrop stand at my mom’s house to see if I could get a pic of the boys in these shirts. I am definitely going to need some wider backdrops, but I think this one came out pretty cute. Aww!

Sweet Shot Day

Weekend

It’s already Wednesday, but I really wanted to blog about the weekend. It was pretty fun and I took a ton of pictures that I feel compelled to post.

It started off Friday afternoon, because the boys had early dismissal at school. So I took a half-day at work, and since it was a beeeautiful day, I took them to the zoo. (Funnily enough, their school has another campus at the zoo, so I thought we might run into other parents and students there with the same idea, but oddly, we did not.)

As I mentioned before, we didn’t actually see a single live animal. It’s a good thing we have a membership…

Anyway, we did see some ducks.

and gorillas (see, Linus is making his new face again there)

and even a reindeer!

A tree was climbed…

After the zoo, we were all pretty worn out.

Saturday morning, I took the boys to Granny & Grandpa’s, then I headed across town to photograph some triplets and their big sister. I shot them three months ago, and now they are six months old and SO giggly and smiley. Sweet!

After I got home, I took a little nap and then got ready for the Grand Opening party for my friends’ new restaurant. I was asked to photograph the party, which was SO hard because of the lighting. But there was free-flowing wine, which helped. Heh.

So proud of them!

It was crazy packed, and this was only the downstairs part!

Anyway, make sure you check it out if you’re in New Orleans. 🙂

Sunday was a pretty lazy day. I took some clothes and toys to a local consignment sale, then I saw “Crazy, Stupid, Love“, which I really enjoyed. Then I got the boys, and we went home and they fought over trains.

Sweet Shot Tuesday – Monkeys at the Zoo

This is another photography link up thingy that I found (the blog is called My 3 Boybarians, so how could I resist really?) for sharing photos you’ve taken in the past week.

I swear, whenever I take the boys to the zoo, we never see actual animals. I’m serious, this time, we saw zero. But they love the animal statues. Especially these gorillas.
