My brush with fame

Yesterday was my friend Gretchen’s wedding. She’s an old high school friend, and she got married in downtown Baton Rouge. My mom and Larry watched the boys while I went to the wedding with a bunch of other friends from high school.

After the very lovely wedding, my friend Erin and I were leaving the hotel where everyone was staying and set off to walk a few blocks to a nearby bar. As we were walking, Erin noticed a woman walking a few steps ahead of us. She was dressed very casually and Erin said, “Is that Liv Tyler?”

A man walking with her affirmed it and Erin and I talked to her a little. Erin was cool, asking her where they were going and giving her a recommendation for a fattening artichoke appetizer when she heard their destination. I just gushed a few times about how pretty she is, like the deeply uncool person I am, and they went on their way.

Erin and I went ahead to the bar, congratulating ourselves on our good luck.

Later, as I was waiting to get my car back from the hotel valet, my new BFF Liv and her people were coming back from dinner. She remembered me and thanked me for the artichoke recommendation. Okay, so she got me and Erin mixed up, but that’s cool! Even better…she ate a fattening artichoke dish!

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a smile in a bathtub. I guess the boys are just going to get bathed at Grandee’s house from now on…

Today the boys are 27 months old, and we tried the monthly photo shoot this morning, but it didn’t go great. Oliver would not smile for anything. And look at the bedhead! And Miles and Linus wouldn’t put their pants on (they have this thing where they insist on wearing their pajama pants, but this is one of those battles that I WILL WIN.)

Oh well. Such is life. I guess these pictures ought to actually reflect our life, eh?

I thought the year between one and two went by fast. Well, I’m guessing from here on our life is going to just speed up even more, because really? 27 months? Two and a quarter?

Should we revisit the monthly picture from two years ago, just for fun? Still blobs, for the most part.
3 Months Old!

How about from one year ago? They’d just started walking at this point last year.
15 months old

Crazy.

Pink!

Dreamy pink shoes, originally uploaded by pyjammy.

I have some weddings and stuff coming up in the next few months, and I needed some fun shoes to wear with boring dresses to make them more fun.

Are these not the best shoes ever? I can’t tell you how hard it is to find shoes that don’t look orthopedic in my size (11) so you can see why I’m thrilled with these.

Dreamy pink sequined ballet flats (from Payless!) and hot pink patent leather heels from BCBGirls via eBay. And both pairs are comfortable.

Does life get any better?

(And lest you think this article is not about the boys…on the contrary! Pink is their favorite color, so they love the shoes as much as I do. Ha ha!)

Do you suppose this innocent face has anything to do with the crying brother in the background? Actually, it doesn’t. Linus was minding his own business, being cute. Oliver wanted to watch Thomas, and Mean Mommy said no.

I was going to use this picture, but I decided I should stop posting crappy cell phone pictures, even if they are exceptionally cute ones of Oliver feeding Elmo Cheetos.

This crockpot has been on a journey tonight. I plugged it in, the power went out, so we took it with us to the pub so it could continue cooking while we waited for the power to return. It finally did, a couple of hours later, and now it is back home on the countertop, slowly cooking that pork roast to perfection.

(Where are the boys in all this, you may wonder? Well, they spent another night at Granny and Grandpa’s tonight because of the lousy weather. And good thing, too!)

Today the boys played with Granny and Grandpa while I ran and walked 13.1 miles. Woo!

The race was pretty good. Better than the one I did in October. I shaved 7 minutes off the time I did back in October, which of course I’m pleased about.

It was a gorgeous day, and the course was different than in the past, so that kept it interesting. The most exciting part was seeing this couple from the current season of Biggest Loser…and then beating them!

We saw them being interviewed at the start of the race, and then I had to use the bathroom and so I didn’t see them again until about mile 6, when I passed them. And then they ended up right behind me, and she saw my shirt (make sure you click to see what the back says) and said “oh wow, triplets!”

So even though she’s the evil one this season, it was pretty cool because I love that show. Dork.

Not my favorite picture of me, but it’s so rare to get a picture with all three boys! This was at the race expo for the Mardi Gras half-marathon tomorrow.

And yes, there are binkies here. The boys have been, shall we say, a little grumpy lately. Whatever it takes, man.

One more crappy cellphone picture. A rare picture of Mommy and one of her boys! Oliver, in this case.

Tell me again how I ended up with blond, blue-eyed children?

So proud of my chatterboxes!

I got a call yesterday from our Early Intervention case worker, and she reported that the boys no longer qualify for speech therapy! In fact, they scored above their age in every category except for one, and in that one (which I don’t remember what she said) they were at their age.

Hooray!

And honestly, I don’t know how much speech therapy helped, since they only got it from June – October, when their speech therapy inexplicably stopped showing up. Nice, eh? But she did teach them to sign, and that helped for a while for sure.

If you spent a few minutes with them now, you’d have no doubt that their speech is fine. But it’s nice to have it confirmed by a professional.

Of course Oliver doesn’t need words. His face says it all… (in this case, “mo’ wogurt?!”)
