Lots of things

– You know I’m a big Morrissey fan, right? I got to see him 8 years ago in Virginia, but I was pregnant and, I don’t know, the show wasn’t as amazing as I’d hoped it would be. Well, I found out last week that he’s playing HERE! In New Orleans! For the first time since 1992! Exciting, right?

Except it’s the same week George and I will be in England. (We’re even flying into Manchester. Life is cruel.)

– In somewhat less sad news, I started planting jasmine vines along our iron fence. We don’t have a back yard, just a side yard, so maybe this will give us a little more privacy. In a few years, anyway. And it will smell nice.

– In case you were wondering where in the heck my “Bootcamp Day XX” posts have been (only kidding, I know no one has) it’s because I’m trying to let my achilles’ tendon heal. I’m not sure what’s going on with it, but it hurts sometimes, mostly when I’m going down stairs, or running. So I’ve been sticking to cycling. And sleeping later. It’s frustrating, I’ve never really had any running injuries before.

I ran a tiny bit on the treadmill this morning, just to see how it felt and it definitely felt weird. Tomorrow I have some new shoes coming in the mail (going back to my old trusty Nike Structures that I wore from 2001-2013, but got too expensive, but yay for old models on eBay) so maybe the extra stability will help.

I also read that I should be wearing shoes with a bit of a heel (I mean, not stilettos, but not my beloved Toms, either) so I guess I’ll be the cool mom sporting sneakers with my high-waisted pleated jeans this summer. Or something. Or maybe I’ll just get some wedges. Or something.

I just want to make sure that I can still do the Rocketchix triathlon in July again. We shall see.

– Just had the most delicious lunch, must share. I mixed together the following in a bowl:

  • shredded chicken that I slow-cooked last night in taco seasoning and salsa (the shredding-in-a-stand-mixer is the bomb, btw.)
  • quinoa
  • chopped avocado
  • salsa
  • plain greek yogurt (stand in for sour cream)

And  I just mixed it all up and gobbled it up. If I wasn’t doing the Simply Filling thing with Weight Watchers, I could have added beans, corn, and cheese, but it was really good even without those.

– I never finished posted pics from when everyone was visiting last week. This is one of my favorites, so I’ll just share this one. Me and my nieces and my boys. When we’re in Virginia, I’ll do one with Andrew and photoshop them together or something.

Woo hoo!

Lost 2 lbs this week, for a total of seven down.

Five pounds!

My weigh in last night went much better, thankyouverymuch. Down another 1.4 lbs for a total of 5. Even got a star and recognition at the meeting.

I wish it was more, I’m not going to lie, but I’ve been tracking and staying within my points for three weeks now. I just need to keep on rolling with it and trust that it will work.

And that’s five pounds in three weeks. If it continues this way, I’ll be down twenty more by the time we go to the beach. Which will make me feel slightly better about wearing a bathing suit.

Ups and downs

Yesterday was a day of ups and downs.

Ups:  I got some amazing news at work, but more importantly, I lost 3.4 lbs in my first week of Weight Watchers! Score! (Looky, I put up a cute little ticker over on the side to track my losses. Yeah, I have a lot to lose. A lot.)

Downs: Went to the dentist to get my two cavities filled and he found five more. That’s SEVEN total. Ugh. Thank god for dental insurance. The other thing is that our house is apparently being taken over by bees. Bzzzzz.

Now how about some cute pics I took yesterday that I was too lazy to post as my picture of the day? (And regarding yesterday’s picture, okay, so Linus’s outfit wasn’t too bad. That’s what I love about plaid shorts. They kinda make everything match!

This one’s about me

(First, don’t forget about the contest! It’s running through the end of the month, as is the free shipping promotion.)

So I started going to Weight Watchers meetings last week. I went to meetings back in 2006, before I got pregnant, and they didn’t really work for me. I did better before my wedding (in 2005) by only using WW online. But I wanted to try the meetings again because deep down, I know I didn’t give WW my full attention back in 2006. Clearly, because I lost like three pounds in 3 months. Sad.

The only meeting that really works for me time-wise is the Thursday evening one. It’s at 5:30, and George has been great about doing the parenting solo-style while I go. But the problem with a Thursday afternoon meeting is that, well, you’re weighing in at 5:30 pm, not 6:30 am. It just bugs me that I have a whole day’s worth of food and drink in me when I step on the scale.

(Don’t worry, I understand that if I’m losing weight, it will still show up, but still.)

I have to get two cavities filled, so I decided to set my dentist appointment for tomorrow morning so I won’t be able to eat too much in the afternoon. Genius, yes? It’s good because my friend Tee and I are going to the grand opening of the new Pinkberry frozen yogurt place here tomorrow night (yes, we are fancy) and I want to be able to put sprinkles on my yogurt, dammit.

So, regarding weight loss. Let me post a picture of what I looked like at my lowest weight.

Okay, I’m not positive I was at my lowest weight there (this was about a year before my wedding) but damn, I was stylish back then, wasn’t I?

Anyway, don’t make me post a picture of myself now. Let’s just say I have a long way to go before I can fit into that red satin jacket again.

Ya gotta have goals, after all!

Jan 25, 2007

Ahh, it’s nice knowing I don’t have to go anywhere this weekend. Except Harahan. That’s okay, that’s not very far away. I can handle that.

Made my butternut squash crack soup again the other day. Hot damn, that stuff is good. I am butternut squash crack soup genius. I think it even puts the Five Spice Pork Tenderloin to shame. Can you believe it? Not me.

Weight loss is going somewhat better. I finally FINALLY after 4 months, got my five pound star! Yes indeedy, five pounds in four months. At this rate, I’ll be sixty by the time I get to my goal weight. Ah well, I’ll be a hot old lady. That’s cool.

Can you believe? After dinner last night at Galatoire’s, I still lost .8 this week! Amazing! I am weight loss genius. That takes my total weight loss for the past four months…1.6 lbs! Or something equally pathetic. But now I have no excuses. At the end of the month, our dresses for Kristina’s wedding will be in and I hope to be swimming in mine. SWIMMING, dammit!

So anyway, dinner last night was highly yummy. And I was sung to, by the entire restaurant. (Yeah, that wasn’t embarrassing at all.) And I got a Galatoire’s pen! How exciting. I want to go back every year for my birthday!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween, people. Now gimme some candy corn. Mmm, candy corn. I don’t think it’s Weight Watchers-approved. Dang.

In the latter part of last week, I was forced to eat many rich foods and drink many delicious adult beverages. So I’m not sure that the Weight Watchers people are going to be very happy with my weigh-in tomorrow. But I’m going to go to the morning meeting (no working on All Saint’s Day, hurrah!) so that maybe I can at least only gain seventy pounds instead of a zillion.

Mexico trip is next week! Can’t wait. Eeeeee!

Do you think I should be a blonde?

Oct 18, 2006

Okay, okay, okay….I’ll post!

Had a fun weekend in Woodbridge with Kristina and Jenny and all the people who came to the shower. Shower went well, overall.

Missed my flight home on Sunday, so came home yesterday. Barely made that flight too. Yeesh.

Lost 1.8 last week! But I have a feeling I will gain it all back this week, so I’m postponing my weigh in until tomorrow, and going to the gym this afternoon. I reckon I’ll have to do sixty-seven miles on the treadmill to make up for the wine and cake and mini quiches, but it’ll be worth it.

I know, that wasn’t a very exciting post. I’m sorry.

Okay, I wrote that yesterday, but it didn’t post. Not that I’m going to write a lot more right now. Just sayin’. I did write yesterday.

I am currently exhaustedly tired. Went to the gym before work. Really, though it may seem like a good idea, it’s just a logistical nightmare. Never again.

Okay, I wrote that this morning. Went to my WW meeting…lost 1 lb! Woo hoo!

I never said, because I was embarrassed, but I gained. I gained. Only .2 lbs, which is practically the same as nothing, but still. I didn’t lose. Usually the first week is a huge loss that you never match again. And I gained. What does that mean?

So yeah. This week, I’ve been good. Very good. And on Tuesday, by golly, there’s going to be a loss. But I definitely will not eat sushi for lunch that day. I really do think that all that salt is a bad thing on the day of a weigh in. Or I like to think so.

I’m sorry (Chris) I didn’t give more detail on the girl weekend in Natchitoches. But I think it might be dull to the outsider. It was all about eating, drinking wine (oh, and daiquiris), watching Steel Magnolias, shopping, and more than anything, talktalktalktalktalk. And the cutest b&b ever. It was wonderful.

This weekend is decidedly less exciting. Painting the hallway! And hopefully the dining room. Better to get it all done at once that having to drag the supplies out again. Plus, the thought of never having to look at those eye-searing lime green walls again makes me very happy.

Duh duh dunnhhhhhh!

This evening is weigh in number two. Hopefully some progress has been made so I can change my cute little counter thing over there. If I have to make a new one with bigger numbers, I’m going to cry.

(If the number does go up, it’ll be worth it. Had the most fantastic girl’s weekend. It just involved a lot of calories. So be it.)

Ohhh, I’m hungry. I think I’ll blame it on Weight Watchers, when in reality, I’m usually hungry at this time of day. (Actually, 8:50 in the morning is a bit early. So I think the WW blame is legit.)

Note: Fruity Cheerios do not make a filling breakfast. Unless I consider it a mini-meal or snack instead and not stress about it. I’m going to attempt to enjoy a banana in a little while. I really don’t like bananas, but I love the idea of them. Filling! Healthy! Portable! But yicky texture. (I do like banana bread, though.)

Last night’s Project Runway was exciting. I was on the edge of my seat. I made shish kabobs (ehhhh, not very good. I forgot the mushrooms! Duh!) and sweet potato fries (baked, of course, and I made too many for the pan, so they were mushy and not very good) for everyone. Jon and Teresa came over. Yay! Fun.

This weekend, Ren, Kettie, Maura and I are meeting up for a fun time in Natchitoches. A mini-reunion. I can’t wait! I must save my flex points for a daiquiri from Maggio’s. And bread pudding. And all the other yummy stuff we’re going to eat (and drink.)
