Remind me to never try to write like a writer. (Thank you to my dearest and closest friend Kristina for pointing out that I am not that kind of writer. It’s not insulting that she tells me this, I am grateful, so I shall never again write cheesily and self-consciously about the joys of spring. Apologies to all.)

So this weekend…tiring, but fun.

Friday night, went to pub for a little while after watching the fine Emma Thompson-Arnold Schwartzenegger film Junior.

Saturday, did some yardwork in the morning. (Weedwhacking the grass is killing my lower back. Must get push mower from Dawn and get blades sharpened.) Also trimmed back some weeds and discovered true shape of little garden bit next to driveway. Isn’t square as previously thought, but more trapezoidal. Must work on that one some more.

That afternoon, I went to the French Quarter Festival as a volunteer. Along with two women from work (one who I like and one who is just rude) and some random guy, we ran the beer booth. Next to the stage. Ew. I hate the music here, why did I volunteer to work at a New Orleans music festival? Anyway, it was fun. Got free t-shirt and free food. And beer. And Diet Coke.

Went to a cheesy hamburger restaurant for dinner with George. Ate half a cheeseburger (heaven) but all of fries and many onion rings. By the time we got home, I thought I was going to die. Guess my system isn’t used to grease anymore. My friend Maura and her mom came by later in the evening to see the house. Always nice to see Maura, she’s a high-powered lawyer in Dallas now. And her mom’s v. cool, so it was a nice evening, aside from my tummy-ache.

Sunday morning, I overslept for the race Polly and I were doing at Six Flags. But we managed to make it in time, and I finished in an abysmal 34:57. My personal best is 33:38 but that was in a shady park in October. This race was not shady and in April, so that is my excuse. Next weekend, we’re doing another race on the levee which is most definitely not shady, but at least I’ll be prepared. And it’s right by my house, so driving time is eliminated. Yay.

Polly and I decided to skip Six Flags (we got a free ticket to use anytime this season) and go to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. (Yes, yet another highly WW-inappropriate meal.) They were having a huge sale in their store and I got $80+ worth of Fiestaware for a mere $13, including the coveted disk pitcher I’ve been wanting ever since I started buying Fiesta. Very exciting!

Ate an egg, two pieces of bacon and three biscuits (hey, I’d just run 3.1 miles in the heat!) for breakfast and then went home and took a nap. Yesterday was the first day of the Canal Street streetcar (in forty years) and George and I took it to the cemeteries. That was pretty cool. Of course, we could drive it in 10 minutes and it took about 2 hours to get there and back, but that’s not the point.

And that was my weekend! Terribly exciting.
