Baton Rouge

In case anyone is wondering…we’re in Baton Rouge. I took the boys to my mom last night, and thank god I left when I did, because we made it in under two hours. (On a normal day it’s about 90 minutes, so not bad at all…) And the best part? They slept the.whole.way. No screaming! Whew.

I don’t think I mentioned this before, but on Thursday, when I picked up the boys from daycare, I noticed that Linus had a little rash. Nothing too major, but it was all over his body, so I called the pediatrician, who said to come in the next day. He didn’t seem to notice it, so I put them all to sleep and made plans to add one more thing to my hurricane-evacuation-filled-day.

The next morning, his rash was WAY worse. Very very red and angry looking. He still didn’t seem to notice that he looked like he’d taken a nap on the beach at noon, thank goodness.  Here’s a pic I got from my camera phone. It doesn’t show how bad it is, but you get the idea:

I had to take him to work with me, which was NOT fun, esp since everyone thought he was contagious (so did I), so I ordered them to stay away from my office. Anyway, took him to the doc, who decided he had an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin he’s been on for his ear infection. Poor bunny. Now he’s on a new course of antibiotics, plus some prednisone and some foul-tasting antihistamine that he screams bloody murder at.

He looks a bit better today, but I have a feeling it’s starting to bother him. He was miserable today.

So yeah. This is fun. George is coming up tomorrow, and after that, just cross your fingers for us all…

    I am thinking about you and hope that everything turns out ok. Glad you made it to your mom and that Linus’ rash is getting better. Pleae update whne you can – keeping my fingers crossed for you!

    Poor Linus!!! I’m allergic to Amoxil and have the exact same reaction…not fun! I’m thinking and praying for you and your family during this time! Praying that Gustav fizzles out.

    poor little linus, both boys had roseola after a high fever and cold…the rash appeared after the fever broke. Hope he feels better soon!

    That looks exactly like the reaction my Elizabeth had to amox a few years ago. And it got a whole lot worse before it got better.

    We gave her a little Benadryl and she was 100% within a few days. It’s very scary to see hives when you’ve never experienced them before! (Especially on your baby!!)

    Right when I clicked on your website and saw the little guy, I thought “Oh it looks like what I had when I found out I was allergic to amoxicillin” and it turns out that is what it was. Poor guy, I can’t believe he didn’t show any signs of noticing it, since it burned and itched for me. I hope he gets better.

    My Linus had the same thing happen to him but it was zithromax. He is allergic to the protein in it. Poor Linus boy. I hope he gets better and that you can go home soon.

    Glad to hear you all are safe in Baton Rouge (though it sounds like the storm hit pretty hard there); we’re all the way in Memphis. So sad about the amoxicillin reaction… We actually think Lucy had a very small amoxicillin reaction on Saturday – yes, the Saturday we were trying to evacuate. Dan was packing up while I took her to Children’s Hospital. What a hectic time. Hope to “see” you all back in New Orleans soon!
