I mentioned this a few times already, but back in January, we applied for the boys to attend a new charter school with a French curriculum. Yes, even though I don’t speak much French, I want the boys to attend a school that is only in French.
In case you don’t read French (and I don’t write it either, the subject line is thanks to Google Translate), we got in!
This morning was a lottery to determine attendance. It was pretty entertaining, so here’s the story…
I got there (with Miles, who had to stay home from daycare today thanks to yesterday’s fever) a few minutes early. When I walked in to the room, we were the only parents there. But soon, more people came, about a dozen prospective parents altogether.
One of the board members gave us the lowdown. There were 30 spots for 49 applicants. Not terrible odds, but out of that pool was two sets of twins and a set of (ahem) triplets. You should have heard the groans when the rest of the parents heard that.
I shrunk down in my seat.
And then we did informal introductions, and the board member who was talking to us heard my name and said, “Oh, this is the mom of the triplets!”
I shrunk down further in my seat, to avoid the rotten tomatoes being thrown at me.
(Only kidding.)
I imagined the lottery would be done in a terribly sophisticated fashion. Perhaps a robot or ping pong balls. Alas, it was literally names in a hat.
The lottery started. The first name picked was of the twins. Two spots down.
More names get called. The other set of twins get picked.
Nine spots left.
“Linus, Oliver, and Miles”.
Daggers are shot at me as I cheer a little.
We’re in!

That is absolutely fantastic news! Yay for you and the boys! It will be a fun process for you as well as they learn French you will be, too! I’m working on my language profile through work because we would like the boys to go to French school as well…in the least French Immersion.
CONGRATS! Enjoy the success! Woo hoo for Miles, Oliver and Linus!
