Don’t want to forget this

Tonight, Miles came and got me from my computer and indicated he wanted to show me something. He then stood in the living room, but I didn’t understand what he was trying to tell me.

“I cleaned up!” he said.

And then I died of happiness.

The end.

Sunday was my brother and niece’s last day in town, so we took the kids to LSU (both my brother and I graduated from there) to wander around campus a bit. I am not terribly nostalgic about college (at least not the academic part, ha ha) but it was neat to see some old familiar places.

We had a family party at my mom’s Saturday night, and the boys had a good time playing with their cousin Ellison, once they all warmed up to each other. Love it!

Love, love, love this picture. The boys all snuggled on Larry’s lap. What a great grandpa! (They sure are lucky to have two great sets of grandparents, eh?)

13.1 miles or bust!

So on a whim last month, I signed up to run the Jazz Half Marathon in October. Why? I don’t know. I did it once before and I was almost last, so you wouldn’t think I’d want to repeat that again, would you? (Well, I didn’t almost finish last, but at once point, the police car that follows the last runner was on my tail. Talk about incentive to move!) This time, I’d love to get a personal best. I should probably start training. Hmm.

Like last time, the marathon is a fundraiser for Children’s Hospital here in New Orleans. I’ve spent many hours in the Emergency Room there so far (fractured skull, a cut, and too many asthma episodes to count) and we’ve always received wonderful care. So this is my way of giving back a bit.

I’m not trying to raise a ton of money, but every little bit helps. If you’d like to donate, my donation form is here.

The Carpool Chronicles for August 23, 2012

IMG_7883

Today was my first day of being a carpool driver. Next week, I’ll be dropping off two kids in addition to my own. Maybe I should get a schoolbus. Hmm. For today, it was just Millie and the boys. Get four four-year-olds together and it’s comedy gold.

Millie: (to me) You know that “Got your number” song? The boy takes his shirt off in that video.

So I played the song for her (so sue me, it’s on my phone. It’s a good workout song, okay?)

I wish I could say dropoff went better today than yesterday, but I’d be lying if I did. My intention was to go through the carpool line and let them out and I’d go on my merry way.

Ha! Well, Millie must’ve read my mind because she hopped out of the car and skipped into class. The boys, however, had to be physically lifted out of the car, and then I had to move the van because we were holding up the line. And then I had to walk them in after all. And then I had to spend a few minutes hugging, kissing, and reassuring each boy in his class.

This is rough.

I also was informed that Oliver and Miles didn’t cry for 45 minutes yesterday. Yeah, like they cried all.day.long.

(Which means Linus won Triplet of the Day yesterday.)

Sigh.

First day of school, preK4-style

Today was the first day of school for the boys. I mean, for this year. Their second “first day of school” ever. I was so ready for today to get here. The gap between camp ending and school starting (only a week and a half) involved a lot of driving and juggling childcare and last minute back-to-school tasks. So I’m glad we’ll be getting back into our school year routine.

But the routine will start tomorrow. Today I walked the boys in for their first day of class. It went about as well as could be expected. Look how happy they look before we left the house! (I told them to do their happy dances.)

Now serious:

Compare to last year. Gaaah! (They’re wearing the same shorts.)

And then, because you KNOW I love to take the same type of picture over time, I did the “backpack” shot again. {Here’s last year’s shot}

On the drive to school (“new new school”, that is – “old school” is daycare and “new school” is the French school, but the old campus) the boys were informing me that they were NOT excited about school and they were NOT going to get out of the car. Dream on, kids.

I had to park kind of far away so that we could walk in (after today I’ll be dropping them off) but as we got closer, they got more trepidatious.

We went in, and I had to show them everyone’s classrooms, before I was able to leave Linus in his. He wasn’t thrilled with me. He cried. It took me a while to get him into the room, but eventually he did, without too many tears. Relatively speaking.

{No pictures. I was too busy trying to get myself extricated. And then I thought it would be cruel to take a picture of him crying for me.}

Oliver was next.

Okay, I lied. I had to take a picture. He was much harder to shake. I had to pry my hand from his with a crowbar. Ugh.

Finally, Miles and I made our way to his room. He seemed resigned to his fate at this point, so there were no tears. Just a bit of hand holding and some extra hugs. And “the lip.” But I was able to get a photo with his teacher.

Millie is in Miles’s class, so while I couldn’t get a picture of them together, at least I was able to get one of her with her mommy and daddy.

By the time I left Miles, everyone was calm. Whew. Hopefully they will have forgiven me by the time I see them tonight.

I really have to apologize for Monday’s picture. And the only reason I even have this one is because I had to try to get a picture of the people who looked to be rappelling down the side of that building. Freaky.

I’ll do better next time.
