The other day, at Miles’s request, I bought a bag of green apples. I mean, the kid ASKED for the apples, so it seems SLIGHTLY reasonable to assume he’d eat said apples, right? No. That is ridiculous, Pam, why would you think such a crazy thing? I put an apple in their lunch yesterday and they came back pristine.
So I suggested that we make applesauce. They’d actually been asking to do it for a while since they saw it on Sid the Science Kid. So we make the apple sauce. They helped peel the apples and put the sugar and water and cinnamon in the pot. I even let them puree it with my stick blender.
Would they eat this delicious applesauce?
Of course not.
Sigh.
What a great weekend!
Ah, what a glorious weekend we just had! The sun was shining (okay, perhaps a little TOO much) and more importantly, it was spent with friends, just relaxing.
Saturday morning started out with a birthday party at an ice cream parlor. Can’t beat that! And I was very strong and didn’t indulge in anything there. Which is truly impressive, considering the flavors they had. Oh man. Just as well, I never would have been able to choose.
These are JUST the chocolates:

I’m pretty sure I saw the birthday girl down about eight of these cupcakes. (My weird children couldn’t get down with the idea of cupcakes baked into ice cream cones, so they resisted. Weirdos.)

At least SOMEONE ate ice cream.

After the party, we headed to the park for a bit, and then to the library. And then we went home and spent the rest of the day lounging at home with my friend MC and her daughter, Millie. Millie will be going to camp with the boys later this summer and then she’s starting at their school in the fall. Yay for carpooling!
The kids had fun playing outside, and of course, I had fun doing a photoshoot with Millie’s baby sis.

The next day, we invaded MC’s house. There was perhaps more wine drinking going on than is strictly necessary, but what else can you do on a hot summer day? (I know, not technically summer yet, but this is New Orleans. It’s always summer.)

There were some cute babies involved, yet again.

The bigger kids played for hours.

And then we tried to follow the instructions in this video to get some single-chinned pictures of ourselves, but it just devolved into giggles.

After we drank all the wine in the whole world, we took the kids to the park a block away and ordered some pizza. More playing! (No more wine. Whew.)

And that was the end of our weekend. So awesome, so relaxing, and something I’d be happy to repeat every weekend this summer (minus maybe ALL of the wine…)

Some cute babies for you
This weekend, I got to see two of my friends’ babies that I don’t see very often, and of course I had my camera at the ready.
First, it was my birthday buddy, Ann Frances:
And then on Sunday, we got to hang with the boys’ birthday buddy, August:
I’ve decided this is my new favorite age to photograph. They’re happy and smiley and can hold themselves up, but aren’t yet mobile. Perfection!
