Last year it was Miles, this year, Linus and Oliver got a turn to strut their stuff. And it was disgustingly adorable. I am writing this from beyond the grave, because it has killed me. RIP me.
Linus and his friends before:
Oliver and his buddies:
And now for the deadly part….
Oliver dances the merengue:
Linus’s turn to dance the merengue:
And now, Linus swing dances.
I’m truly sorry I made you watch this, because now your heart has exploded from all the cute. (At least if you’re an aunt, uncle, or grandparent.)
In between some of the kid dancing, there were demonstrations by grown ups. I want this lady’s legs.
When it was all over, time for prizes! Oliver’s class took home the gold!
and thank god for rewarding everyone, Linus’s class did as well!
Linus and Oliver and Diego pose with the trophy. Well, they try.
March 16 – I took the boys to the library near our house, and they asked how old it was. I looked at the sign and realized it was dedicated exactly 100 years to the day before Millie was born! (I think. I’m terrible with birthdays.) (That aren’t mine.)
March 17 -Ziggy on our gray couch with the gray walls and the gray curtains and the gray side table. I’m in a gray phase. Note: this picture was before Ziggy decided he really needed to see how the stuffing in the cushions tastes. Grr.
March 18 – Took the kids for donuts before school. I’m sure their teachers loved me for that.
March 19 – Miles came home in his jammies from his first slumber party. He had such a great time, and now the boys want to have one. (He’d been to a sleepover before, but never a full fledged slumber party.)
March 20 – Miles had to do a timeline project for school. While it was a pain in the butt to get the photos printed (nothing like waiting til the last minute) I’m really proud of his work. He picked the photos and wrote the descriptions (all in French, of course.)
I chaperoned a field trip at school today. We went to Audubon Park where the 2nd and 5th graders go to take part in a Saints Junior Training Camp thingy something like that. There were seven stations where they did something similar to what football players do in training. I guess. Can you tell we’re not a huge football family? I asked Oliver if he knew who Drew Brees was today. He just looked at me blankly.
Anyway, I made a little video (it’s only 37 seconds long) of some of what he did today.
He had a blast, and most importantly, got to drink a ton of Gatorade for free (they were one of the sponsors.)
The boys are almost done with their second week of second grade. Time is flying, and I’m having a bit of a tricky time getting everything done. New schedule always takes some getting used to.
Last weekend we went swimming for the last time. That was sad.
I bought some new headphones for work. Nice Bose ones on sale at Target, but they hurt the top of my head. I really want a replacement pair of my old headphones, but the earpiece snaps off if you so much as look at it wrong (I’ve already been through two pairs.) But they cradle my noggin much better. So I’ll probably return the Bose headphones and keep looking for new ones.
I’m trying Dukan again. It worked so well last time, crossing my fingers it will work again. So far so good. (Almost 72 hours without sugar!) Meat meat meat meat meat.
My Achilles tendon is still bugging me a bit (it’s been six months) but I got some heel cups from Amazon which seem to actually be helping. My friend Steph and I meet at 6 every morning to walk/run about 3.5 miles. Some days are better than others. Nevertheless, I’m signed up for the Jazz half marathon on Halloween.
Tonight we finished watching the last Harry Potter movie with the boys. I almost forgot how great the last one is. My cold hearted children didn’t even flinch when the Weasley twin (Fred?) died, but that part just really gets me every time.
Took Miles to the doctor one day last week because of a weird blister thingy on his arm. I was paranoid it was mrsa or something, but turns out it’s just molluscum. And it could take a year to go away. But at least it’s not something really awful. What I am not going to do is google either of those terms because both will bring up vile photos. No thank you.
I hope this doesn’t affect Miles’s acting career. Oh, well, I mean, it doesn’t exist yet, but when he said he wants to be an actor when he grows up, I put him in an extras database, and signed him (and Oliver) up for the Drama and Improv after school activity. YES. That means there will be extensive documentation of a play in a few months. I think I’m going to be an awesome stage mom, I really do.
Yesterday was the last day of first grade. When I went to pick up the kids, Oliver and Millie’s teacher was walking them to the car, crying with Millie. One of the hard parts about going to a school where the teachers are coming from a foreign country is that they can’t stay forever. So I wasn’t able to get a picture with the boys with each of their teachers, but it’s okay. I’ll survive without having every single aspect of their lives documented.
Last night Miles’s class participated in a dance competition through a local program called Mindsteppers. I can’t share most of the photos and videos I took because of privacy issues, but I do have to share this adorable one of Miles and his swing dance partner.
Miles insisted on staying the entire time, and good thing, because they took home the gold!
At one point, a class was dancing to Uptown Funk and Oliver and Linus couldn’t not dance. It was simply not possible.
Mmm, oysters.
Kristina and I tried out this new food market the other day before she went back home. We had some really delicious raw oysters, a cheese board, a salad, and a crepe stuffed with macaroni and cheese and pulled pork. I mean, yeah. It was good.
We also attended the boys’ school fundraiser on Sunday night. More good food, especially the brisket tacos from Taceaux Loceaux (the name annoys me greatly, but what can you do?) (PS It’s pronounced Taco Loco. I don’t know how obvious that is if you’re not from here.)
Entertainment at the fundraiser
I may have hit the open bar a few times, because by the time we left, I had a fancy bottle of wine from one raffle and I’d outbid everyone for some hair salon services in the silent auction. It’s all for a good cause, at least.
Sunday was a really big day, actually. Between the garage sale and the school fundraiser, we also went out to cheer on my friend Heather as she finished her first half Ironman triathlon!
Well, I should say we attempted to cheer her on. Thanks to some gross ineptitude by local organizers, the website said the race finished at City Park. But no, it actually finished several miles away at the lakefront.
By the time we finally go there, she had already finished. 😦 I was so upset about it, and really freaking angry at the organizers. I wonder how many other people missed seeing finishers?
The kids made a poster for her, and the adults made a few too.
On the bright side, I almost got to see fellow identical triplet mom Kim close to the finish line. You may remember me posting about her husband, who was killed last year in a training ride for this very same triathlon. She decided to train for it and race it in his memory. So inspiring.
(My friend Robin, also a mom of triplets, also finished it. I know so many kick ass women!)
In horticultural news, a couple of weeks ago, I planted some jasmine along our iron fence. We only have a side yard, so hopefully this will add some privacy as well as some beauty and nice scents. And probably bees.
And it’s already growing! I don’t know how much I am supposed to nudge it along the fence, but it seems to be doing okay. I guess it’ll be a few years before the fence is covered, but it’s fun to watch the progress now.
On the other hand, the Bradford pear I planted when we moved in eleven years ago has some weird black spots on the leaves, which also look like they’ve been eaten. I need to figure out what to do about that.
Remember when my friend Matt got very very sick about five years ago? Well, the husband of another mom of multiples is currently very ill with the same kind of situation. A flesh eating bacteria. Matt pulled through, and I’m confident Melissa’s husband will as well, but they can use all the positive thinking (and other support) we can send their way.
I remember Alicia saying that Matt did as well as he did because he was a rugby player, so big and muscly and solid. Melissa’s husband Josh is a police officer, so similarly brawny, so I think this is a good sign. Keep them in your thoughts.
Next week, the boys and I are headed to Virginia for Emily’s first communion. A plane ride with all three – hopefully I won’t get barfed on this time. Hmm.
Yesterday was a big day. It was Oliver’s class’s last day at the zoo as well as the school’s mascot unveiling and their Mardi Gras parade.
The kids (dressed as animals for the parade later that day) gave presentations about things they’d learned in the last four weeks at the zoo. Oliver discussed endangered animals and something else. Reptiles?
Oliver pontificating on endangered animals.
After the presentations, we went to the zoo auditorium to watch the movie they make at the end of their 4 week session. Looks impressive up on the big screen, eh?
The drama!!!It’s a French film, so obviously subtitled.
After the film, there was a potluck and then we headed to school for the big mascot unveiling and the parade.
The kids had voted for which mascot they wanted, and so there was much excitement in the air as they unveiled…
What’s in the box?
Let’s open it up!
It’s the…
Loup Garou!
So here’s the problem with the kids going to a French school. Now I’m going to have to say “Loup Garou” a bunch of times over the next eleven years. Maybe can we agree the non-French-speaking amongst us can just call him the Werewolf?
In any case, he was pretty awesome. Very Teen Wolf.
The kids were really excited. Hey, has anyone seen Mr. Chip? Oh, just wondering.
