I was on the BBC!

Okay, that was a bit of a clickbaity title, I’ll confess. But it is true.

See, there’s this podcast that I’ve been listening to for years. (If you like movies, you should enjoy it.) It’s British (obvs) and a radio show on BBC 5 Live, but after it airs on the radio, they release it as a podcast.

Anyway, last week or so, I wrote in to say I’d be able to listen for the first time since I started listening, because my husband and I were in the UK for our annivesary, blah blah.

And they read it out! Kind of surreal to hear our names read aloud by these voices I’ve been listening to for years.

You can subscribe to the podcast here if you’re interested, and you can hear my email read out in the June 5 episode, about 10:15 into it.

What bird is this?

The window next to my desk has an air conditioning unit on it. This side of the house gets full sun, so a long time ago, we put in the unit and installed film on the windows to reduce the heat. I tell you this because this morning, this gal/guy was hanging out on the air conditioner, just chilling and cooing.

I mentioned the window film because I am pretty sure s/he couldn’t see me because it’s reflective. So that’s handy.

I tried to get a video clip of the cooing, but while I was filming, Bird 1 flies off and Bird 2 is now holding down the fort.

This one has a very…”don’t let this guy drive the bus” look, don’t you think?

So I guess they’re pigeons? I suppose I could use something more reliable than a children’s book to identify it, hmm.

Happy birthday, part 2

Friday night, I had my second awesome fortieth birthday party. This time, with my girls from the neighborhood. I didn’t want anything super fancy, just a meal at a local Mexican restaurant and margaritas. And everyone had to wear sequins and sparkly things. And obviously there had to be cake.

My lovely friends came through in spades.

First, Tee and I went to get our makeup done. I was extremely nervous, because I don’t generally wear a lot of makeup, but I mean, if I’m going to get my makeup done, it needs to be DONE, right? Well, it was certainly done. I got the full smokey eye. It was pretty amazing.

I looked fierce.

Meanwhile, Tee got some super glam sparkly gold eyes.

After we got all gussied up, we met everyone else at the restaurant, where I was given a GINORMOUS margarita and a TINY glittery sombrero.

Yes, I’m looking down in pretty much every picture so you can admire my eyes.

I really don’t feel like that photo captures the true size of that margarita. It was glorious.

After dinner, I ran into an old friend.

and then we went back to Jenn’s house where we drank more margaritas out of sparkly lip straws…

and danced and played some game and ate cake.

We took a group picture in front of the most excellent banner, and then I snuggled with Jenn’s dog before heading home. At 3:30 in the morning. YEAH!

Happy birthday to meeee! (Again!)

2014 in review – blog version

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 190,000 times in 2014. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 8 days for that many people to see it.

I like pretty sparkly things.

Our family Christmas pictures are coming up, and I got a cute dress at Target, but it needs a cool necklace.

And then my sister asked me to host a Stella & Dot trunk show.

And then I found this necklace.

Gorgeous, right? It’s totally perfect. I’m in love.

Stella & Dot has tons of beautiful accessories. Not just jewelry. Bags, wallets, scarves, all kinds of stuff.

Let me be frank. I want that necklace. You want one of these beautiful pieces. So let’s just cut to the chase.

Cash trumps chocolate?

‘Tis the season…a friend of mine got this in her mailbox after leaving her mail carrier a mug with candy in it.

Can you say “ingrate”? Geez, Keith, it’s not like it was the Jelly of the Month club…

This morning, while walking with the girls, we decided to take a detour from our usual route to walk up on the levee and see what the river was looking like. Crazy, that’s what it’s looking like!

I know it’s hard if you don’t know what it looks like when the river is at a normal level, but let’s just say those trees are usually completely above-ground.

As is that one:

This is the ferry terminal. It’s hard to tell, but the covered ramp that goes to the boat is at an incline. It’s usually flat or slightly downhill.

Here’s a purty sunrise-ish picture:

Look! It’s St. Louis Cathedral!

Irrationally glad I don’t live on this street.

This is just freaky.
