Miracles happen
Remember about a year ago, when I asked for good thoughts for my friend Alicia’s husband, Mat?
Well, today, they were on the Today show!
In the midst of the sorrow over JW’s passing, it’s nice to hear that good things happen too.

The boys loved playing with the balloons I got for George’s birthday last week. It’s all fun until someone loses a binky in the melee.
My friend Tiffany lost her sweet boy JW today. He was 20 months old and a real miracle baby. He was born at 27 weeks and seemed to defy all odds, but his latest illness was too much for his lungs to take, and he passed away.
I have known too much loss since I’ve become friends with so many other moms of multiples. JW was not a twin (but he had twin sisters) and I don’t know if that makes it worse or what. You in some way expect multiples to have health problems. But not singletons. And not beautiful, blue-eyed, mischievous little boys like JW. It’s just not fair.
Please keep his family in your thoughts.
Can you guess what the favorite book around our house is right now?
Thank god we have three copies!
And when I went to get the boys from daycare this afternoon, their teacher said Miles has been reciting this all day. “Not in a house! Not with a fox!” etc, etc.
Our weekend almost started off disastrously, but it ended up being very nice. We thought for sure Miles’s ER trip spelled the end of birthday fun for George, but it didn’t. They were all sick on Friday, but nothing too too bad. Miles barfed at the dinner table and then Linus sympathy-puked right along with him. What a thoughtful brother!
Backing up to earlier on Friday. I took a half-day off work to get the party stuff together, but first I took Ren to lunch at Commander’s Palace for her birthday. Except for an unfortunately scale-at-the-back-of-my-throat incident which culminated in me doing something like a cat hacking up a hairball would, it was a lovely lunch.
Friday night was George’s 40th birthday party at the pub, which was technically a surprise party, but I kept it low-key. Good thing, since we were half an hour late. But George had fun, and that’s all that mattered.
Saturday, I slept in. (Or tried to. There was some seriously scary weather going on there.) Did some laundry. Went to the gym. Saw a movie (The Back-up Plan. Cute. I like J-Lo in romantic comedies.) Went to dinner with George. Hung out at pub for a little while. Went home, watched some TV.
Sunday, slept in again. Went to the gym again. Did some grocery shopping. Went to pick up the boys, and then went to the pub for the Doctor Who viewing party they were having. The boys just fought over their portable DVD player (showing Cars) so we didn’t stay long. Our friend Lindsay came back with me and the boys and helped put them to bed. Which they did without any fight, they were so tired.
Yeah, that was one of the few pictures I took this weekend. It was nice to relax. Zzzzzz.
Oh, yeah. In case you didn’t notice, last week I gained 0.2 lbs at Weight Watchers. Boo! I think my watermelon strategy (which just entails eating a lot of watermelon on the day of the weigh in) didn’t quite work as planned. Ah well. At least this week I have another dental appointment (more fillings!) on Thursday to keep me from eating much of anything before the weigh in.

Daddy’s feeling the effects of his birthday bash last night. (Hair of the dog, anyone?)
Normally, I only do triplet-less pictures if the boys have been out of the house all day. But they weren’t feeling good today, so I didn’t get any good pictures of them with Daddy like I wanted to. Instead, here’s Daddy with his 40th birthday cupcake tower!
Happy birthday, George!

Genius invention, the portable DVD player. Keeping Miles occupied while he gets breathing treatments in the ER. (Don’t worry, he’s fine.)
