Uh-oh.

Last night, Miles started screaming in the middle of the night. We thought it was Oliver (who is the usual middle-of-the-night screamer) and George prepared to go sleep with him in the playroom. But then I heard, through the tears and angry cries, “I! Want! My! Waya!” And I knew it was Miles.

(He probably looked like this, but two years older.)
Miles is PISSED.

I’m not kidding when I say this kid was MAD and he wasn’t going to stop screaming until he got his water. Well, I got his water, and as soon as I gave it to him, not a peep was heard out of him. (His brothers, on the other hand, were all, “thanks for shutting him up, mom.”

So this is what it’s going to be like when we take away the binkies. I’m sure of it.

Yeah, I’m really looking forward to this!

Thanks for all the great tips yesterday, by the way. And the support. I really hope it goes as well as it did for everyone else.

These boys, they do love pizza. I put vegetarian slices in front of them first, but as they told Daddy, they wanted MEAT!

Operation: Binky-Be-Gone

So here we are, at almost two and a half, and Miles and Linus still have their binkies. I am soooooo almost ready to get rid of them. I say “almost” because I really like to sleep.

My little vampire
But Miles looks like a vampire. His front two teeth are pushed way up because of the binky. Linus’s too. Oliver’s, on the other hand, look fine.

I have a plan, though. Tell me what you think.

First, I want Oliver out of the picture. It’s not fair to him to have to listen to his brothers scream all night on either side of him, so I’ll send him to Granny and Grandpa’s for some serious spoiling. This is his reward for finding his thumb way back when. (And yes, I’m aware that one day we may be dealing with thumb-sucking issues, but I don’t care!)

Then, we’ll take Miles and Linus to that Build-A-Bear place and let them make a stuffed animal. They’ll put their binky in the animal, and it will then get all sewn up. (Lots of people have asked me if I worry that they’ll rip open the bears to get at their binkies. Well, gosh, I sure hope the bears are sewn better than that!

I like this idea because it gives them a comfort object to replace the binky. (I suppose this step had better take place on the way to Granny and Grandpa’s house, so that Oliver can get one too.)

And then I will stop at Walgreens to get some earplugs so I can sleep that night.

Gaaah!

I should mention that they do not have their binkies at daycare. And they nap there, so I know they can do it. They go all day without them during the week, and often on the weekends too. It’s nighttime I’m worried about.

Has anyone gotten rid of binkies this way?

I’m not sure when O:B-B-G will take place. Probably after my trip to Canada in June. Maybe sometime in July?

Hold me, I’m scared.

My three little nakey boys, playing at the water table. (Nakey because they don’t like wet shirts. Yeah, go figure, boys…your shirts got wet when you were playing with water!)

Linus, looking like an angel. HA HA HA!

I’d like it better if it didn’t have the binky, but that’s a project for this summer, after I have my work trip. I’m not going to make my mom or my in-laws deal with two kids who have just had their binkies taken away, so we’ll do it afterwards.

Anyway, love this picture with all the blues.

Mother’s Day Recap

Had a nice day yesterday. It helped that the weather was beautiful and not too hot. I wouldn’t classify it as relaxing, exactly, but at least I got to spend the day with my family.

We met my mom and Larry at a plantation for lunch. The grounds were beautiful, the food was yummy, and they watched the boys while George and I toured the big house.

Pictures!

(The reason Miles was so hyper yesterday…)

On the looooong drive home (so long the boys watched Shrek 2 twice), the boys napped and played and giggled and said funny things. The rest of the night was okay, the boys were just so exhausted that they were kind of cranky. But they went to sleep without a problem so Mommy could enjoy a glass of wine and some chocolate that Daddy got her.

In a few weeks/months (I have no idea how long these things take to grow), I’ll have lemons! So exciting!

Well, well, well. Look who’s so chipper, first thing in the morning, after waking up at 2:45 am? I guess sleeping between Mommy and Daddy will put you in a good mood…

(I think Oliver looks like my side of the family in this picture, a little.)

Weekend plans

Well, last night was a bit tiring. I went to sleep early, trying to catch up on some lost sleep from earlier in the week. Lo and behold, at about 2:45 am, Oliver started screaming. After a few minutes, it became apparent he wasn’t going to stop, so I went into their room, attempted to comfort him, gave up, and brought him to bed with us. Which is sweet and all, isn’t really conducive to a restful night. And then my morning routine was all messed up, which just puts me out of sorts for the rest of the day.

But they were being a little bit cute. They all insisted on wearing the shirts with the alligators on them, which are from George’s school’s fair.

Ah well. The weekend should be fun, so I’ll stop whining. Tonight we have a wedding to go to, for some neighborhood friends. It should be a lot of fun for us, and since the boys are spending the night at Granny & Grandpa’s, it should be fun for them too.

And then Sunday is Mother’s Day! Hard to believe it’s my third Mother’s Day. I’m excited about our plans, we’re going to brunch at a plantation. There will be room for the boys to run around and lots of pancakes for them to eat. I know it’s kind of cliched, but I always wanted a nice breakfast with my family for Mother’s Day. That’s what we did for my mom (though she insists we never did.) I’ve been saving my WW points for all the yummy food. Mmmmm….
