So a few weeks ago, I saw these adorable monkey hats at the Children’s Place and I had to have them. I didn’t buy them, though. Last year I bought them hats a few sizes bigger than they needed so they could wear them this year too, but MAN, these hats are adorable…
I was sooooo excited when we got some for the boys’ birthday from my friend Alicia. Yay!
(get it? get it????)
More cute pics…
Yesterday, after we got the boys their H1N1 booster shots, we took them to the Children’s Museum as a reward for being so good and patient…
My cousin Rob and his wife sent the boys the cutest shirt from Threadless for their birthday. I love Threadless shirts, but I’ve never gotten around to buying any for the boys. Mostly because I couldn’t choose from all the cute/funny designs.
Rob and Lottie did a good job, though! (Or maybe it was their baby girl Ellison who picked them? As a two month old, I imagine she has her finger on the pulse of infant pop culture, wouldn’t you say?)
Oliver (on the left) wore “Fail” and Linus, on the far right, wore “Camouflage”
In other news, we took the boys to IHOP for dinner last night (it was supposed to be on their birthday, but the weather was too bad.) They were SO good. They sat in chairs and colored and ate reasonably well…what else can I ask? (Okay, maybe not spilling milk all over themselves, but nobody’s perfect.)
(Sorry for all the crappy pics in this post, they were taken with George’s beloved new Android phone.)
So the shirts that the boys wore for their birthday party got a lot of comments. They were so freaking adorable, I could hardly stand it. Seriously. I owe a huge thanks to Danielle over at the awesome blog A Few of My Favorite Things for helping me get them so quickly when basically, I procrastinated about getting something cute for the boys to wear.
If you go over to her blog, she’s giving away a $10 gift certificate to the seller of the shirts, so go enter to win!
So I took the boys to the ped today for their two year visit, and then I had to take them to the hospital for bloodwork. (All very routine, the ped just likes to have a CBC and lead testing done at two years old.) Oh, did I mention I took them by myself? I am goooood.
Anyhoodles, here are their stats:
Linus: 28.5 lbs (50-75th); 34.1″ tall (25-50th); HC 50.5cm (90th)
Oliver: 28.9 lbs (50-75th); 34.3″ tall (25-50th); HC 50.5cm (90th)
Miles: 27.9 lbs (25-50th); 33.2″ tall (10-25th); HC 50cm (75-90th)
At 18 months, they were:
Linus: 25 lbs, 3 oz (25-50th); 32.75″ long (50th-75th); HC 49cm (75-90th)
Oliver: 25 lbs, 4 oz (25-50th); 33″ long (75th); HC 49cm (75-90th)
Miles: 24 lbs, 5 oz (25th); 32.25″ long (50th); HC 48.5cm (75-90th)
They’ve been doing some growing, that’s good! I don’t think the heights are accurate, they were using a different type of measuring device, and the boys weren’t standing up straight. But close enough. They definitely have big noggins, which I already knew. They got two sets of hats for their birthday, both in size 3T/4T, and both were too small. (At least one set was stretchy, so they’ll work, but GEEZ!)
Started out with a zoo trip on Friday with Ren and Chloe and my sister and niece. Then we went to the NICU reunion at the hospital where we saw a bunch of our friends (and petted a pony. Random, eh? A pony? Yes.) and then, I drove around for about an hour so the boys would nap. Heh.
Last year at the zoo on their birthday:
And this year:
By far, their favorite feature of the zoo:
The usually liked the primate statues:
But not always:
An attempt at a picture with Mommy:
(Didn’t get any pictures at the NICU reunion, but picture three boys with fruit punch mustaches, and you get the idea.)
Unfortunately, the yucky weather prevented us from having our planned birthday dinner at IHOP, so we picked up some Popeye’s and went home. The boys loved their presents from Grandee and Larry!
Saturday was their party. It was a little stressful at first, but it went really well in the end. The boys behaved wonderfully, we saw so many of our friends, and I didn’t have to clean up afterwards!
The banner I slaved over last year:
The cupcakes Grandee slaved over this year:
Birthday boys in their awesome shirts:
Linus, after being sung to. And after sticking his finger in the flame. After I watched the video, it wasn’t clear which one of these things caused the tears.
Oliver during his song:
Miles during his song, entranced by the flame:
Whaaat? I can’t hold a new tiny sweet angelic baby girl?
The revellers:
And a video, if you’re so inclined:
After the party, the boys went to Granny and Grandpa’s for a slumber party so George and I could relax and sleep in. Lucky for everyone, my sister and niece’s flight home was cancelled, so we got a few extra hours with them. And a nice early wake-up to drive them to the airport. Ohh, who needs to sleep in? Actually, it was fine – I went back to bed after dropping them off and slept til 11:00!
Now we have piles of presents waiting for the boys to come home to. I think they’re going to have fun ripping open all the packages.
You know what’s weird? I’m more choked up and emotional today than I was last year when they turned one. Maybe because they’re more fully developed human beings this year? I don’t know if I can say that this year was harder, because I don’t think it was. It was more fun, for sure (but I’ll always cherish the months between 7-10, those were so awesome. Mostly because they were immobile. Ha!)
Anyway, happy happy happy birthday to my monkeys. 🙂 I took today off work so I could get ready for the party, and take them to the zoo, and to the hospital’s NICU reunion. (Fitting that it’s today, eh?) I haven’t taken their official picture yet, I’m waiting for UPS to deliver their birthday shirts.
This morning, when I let them into the playroom, I wasn’t sure if they’d notice their new toy, a toolbench. But Miles spotted it, pointed to it, and said, “Ohhhhh!” It was so cute, I wish I’d gotten it on video. I’ll be sure to have the video camera out later when we present them with their tricycles from my Mom and Larry. 🙂
So my sister took my niece to see the Yo Gabba Gabba show in New York City a few weeks ago, and brought the boys back t-shirts. Which they are obsessed with. Yesterday, they wore them to school, and last night when it came time to put their jammies on, they all freaked out about their Gabba shirts being removed.
Yeesh.
Since we’re probably going to be inundated with new toys in the next few weeks, I decided to give this Fisher Price house to my coworker’s son, who turned 1 yesterday. Mean mama. They still do like this toy a lot.
My friend Erin sent the boys some bear shirts from Alaska (where she now lives.) They also were obsessed with these shirts. So maybe it’s not just Yo Gabba Gabba?
Today is school picture day! I really really wanted to have individual pictures taken of the boys, but at $20 a pop (for a 5×7 and four wallets! that’s it!), I just couldn’t justify the cost. So I decided to let them take all three together. Yeah, good luck with that! I can’t wait to hear how the photographers deal with that.
How can it be? This means that in a mere three days, my boys will be TWO! I know, like it’s snuck up on me? Not really, considering how much thought I’ve been giving their party on Saturday. But still, yeah. It’s snuck up on me. I think I’ll devote this week to posts about my boys, so I don’t forget what fun, adorable, utterly maddening little creatures they are at this very moment in their lives…
– One of their favorite activities right now is coloring. Oh, not them coloring, but bringing Mommy a piece of paper and a chunk of crayon, and insisting that Mommy draw Elmo. Over and over and over again. I suppose I have no one to blame but myself. I am no artist, but I did figure out that Elmo is pretty easy to draw, and so I was quite proud of my artistic accomplishment. I may have bragged about it to my children, thus igniting in them a passion to see Mommy draw Elmo until her hand falls off.
– But they do like to color too, actually. Their favorite thing to draw is toes. If you step on a piece of paper in the playroom, within seconds, you’ll be surrounded by little hands tracing an outline of your foot. Maybe we have a career in crime scene chalk outlines or something. Hmm.
More reminiscing later…meanwhile, I need to go count up all the comments I got in the Cans for Comments thing I did. I have a feeling I’m going to be clearing out the pantry AND the grocery store later!
We don’t have take one back yet, but check out the awesome pics we got today. I need to get a copy of the one we have with Emily in it, but just imagine a crying blonde girl right next to Linus (in the second and third pictures) and you get the gist.
Picture one…I had to put Oliver and Miles on my lap, and the only place for Linus was on a stool at Santa’s feet. (No one would get on his lap – believe me, I did NOT want to be in these pictures!) But Linus was having none of it…
Picture two…lady with bangs hides behind chair while holding Linus up. Linus is not happy.
Picture three…Linus still behind chair, unhappy. I tickle the boys in my lap to get some smiles. At least someone looks happy!
