10 weird things about me

Fun! I’ve been tagged by Rachael! I have to list ten weird/random things about me… I guess since she’s a triplet mom too, I can’t list that as one of my weird things. Ha ha!

Boy, I hope I can think of ten things. 😛

1. I hate celery. Don’t even THINK of trying to sneak it in somewhere. There is no time that celery is EVER okay. And believe me, it DOES have a taste. Hmmph. It makes me retch to even think about. (And, for the record, I don’t really think that’s a weird thing about me. I think it’s weird that other people like it. So there.)

Oh no, I can’t think of anything else! I’m perfectly normal! Do these have to be things that none of my friends/family know about? Because I’m pretty much an open book. I can’t think of anything new to say…

2. I quit smoking on February 2, 2004. So did Kristina (my BFF). We rule!

3. I have run two marathons. The London Marathon in April 2002 (a few days before I met George) and the Marine Corps Marathon in October 2003. I kinda hope to do another one someday, but I think I’d rather do lots of 5Ks instead.

4. I wanted to be a microbiologist in high school. And then I took microbiology. Heh. But my dad used to buy me these books on cell biology and stuff when I was younger, and I was just fascinated by mitochondria and all that.

5. I desperately need to update this. That’s not weird, I’m just saying. It’s weird to read something like that, before we had kids, before we got married, before Katrina, even. Yeah, three years ago. Definitely need to update. But right now it’s providing inspiration for this list.

6. I lived in London for six months with Kristina and Anne. Now Kristina and Anne are sisters-in-law. I’m so jealous of that! But don’t worry, George is safe. Their husbands don’t have another brother anyway. Ha!

7. I have two tattoos. One of Calvin & Hobbes, courtesy of my 19 year old self. That would have been 1994. Then the strip was cancelled shortly thereafter. And the is a British flag with a little runner on top of it. That’s commemorating my first marathon. I don’t think I’ll get any more.

8. This is hard!

9. Very

10. Hard!

Whew, 10 things! That wasn’t easy.

I’m tagging anyone who has a blog that reads this but never comments. Now you have to comment!

PS If I think of anything else weird, I will add it.

February 24, 2008

Right now, the boys are getting back at us. Like, they don’t want to let us slip into complacency, so after being sweet last night, they’re being terrors tonight. Argh!

Thursday night, Olga came again and the boys were angels. Well, I should say Olga was an angel. I slept through the night again! It was awesome. I was almost awake at work! Amazing.

And then our dear friend Dawn came to visit. She came around six yesterday evening, and after hanging around the house for a while, we decided to be v brave, and pack up the boys in their carseats and go eat at a restaurant. Oh, it was wonderful. They slept the whole time! A nice meal, a good friend, and sleeping babies. And then Dawn, dear, dear Dawn, slept on the pullout in the nursery and fed them through the night. George and I got TWO WHOLE NIGHTS OF SLEEP IN A ROW!!! Does it get any better?

Maybe not, but it definitely gets worse. Right now they are just being insufferably fussy. They’re eating more than usual, so maybe it’s a growth spurt. Who knows?

Oh, heaven! Heaven is sleep. Heaven is Olga, who came last night and took care of the boys while we slept. I hope it will always be like this when she comes (twice a week) and not that the boys were just on their best behavior. Ha ha!

Worth every penny. Oh heaven. 🙂

Night nanny, woo hoo!

Not much going on here, except that tonight is the first night with our night nanny. I can’t wait! Hopefully she won’t be scared off by the boys. 🙂 But she seems v brave, so I’m not too worried. She’s also a physics genius, so I’m hoping some of that rubs off on the boys. Heh. They certainly won’t ever be learning that from me, as anyone who went to high school with me knows.

Took this picture of my sporty boys today:

Happy Valentine’s Day!

After my last entry, dear Mom came to the rescue and stayed with us a couple of nights so I could get a bit of a break. Thanks Mommy!

The boys wanted to say Happy Valentine’s Day! Thanks Aunt Jenny for our onesies. Good thing V-day isn’t any later, they barely fit. Am I going to have to start putting these guys in 3-6 month clothes already?

Well, after a meltdown on Thursday night that resulted in a teary call to a friend at 10:00 at night, we figured out how to make the boys settle down for the night. It’s a miracle! Baths. It’s all about baths. Give them a bath, and they’ll go right to sleep (or something like that.) V nice.

That said, they’re still fussy in the evenings, so if you want to help, please let me know. An extra pair of arms, an extra lap, and extra shoulder to burp on…that’s what we need right now. Email me if you think you can/want to help. I think the boys figured out that they outnumber us, and it’s been v challenging.

And, I’m going back to work this week. Fortunately, I have the world’s most awesome boss, and so I only have to go into the office a few days a week for the time being, and the rest of the time I’ll be checking in from home. In April, the boys will be starting at daycare, so by then I reeeeally hope they’ll be sleeping through the night. Oh please, please boys…sleep through the night!

On Friday, we took them to the pediatrician for their two month visit and shots. The shots went pretty well. Even a bit amusing. The doctor would give the shot very quickly and a split second later, you’d get a reaction. It went like this:

*shot*…second passes…eyes open wide in a WHAT WAS THAAAAT?…short burst of screaming, then silence. And repeat on other leg. Times three.

I love our pediatricians. They check the boys over in their laps, very gently and soothingly. No cold exam rooms, at least not yet.

And what you’ve all been waiting for…weights! Apparently the scale at the WIC office was a bit off. It was old and a tad rusty, so I’m not surprised. Our boys aren’t quite as chunky as we previously thought…

Linus: 11 lbs, (25-50 percentile) 21.5″ long (10 percentile)
Oliver: 11 lbs, 9 oz, (50 percentile), 21.5″ long (10 percentile)
Miles: 10 lbs, 10 oz, (25 percentile), 21″ long (5 percentile)

Note that the percentiles are NOT for adjusted age. Those are for actual 2 month olds! Woo!

And, to close, a photo, in their baby legs that Aunts Kristina and Anne gave them. 🙂

Two months old!

Two months old!

The boys turned two months old on Monday, but with all of the Mardi Gras stuff going on, I didn’t have time to post. Teresa and I took Oliver (randomly picked child) to the French Quarter. It was fun, and he was an angel. Only woke up to eat, and didn’t cry ever. I just wanted to feel like a normal mom with one baby. Is that so wrong?

Anyway, here are some pics of the boys on their two month birthday:

Poor Linus, getting pushed around by his brothers…

Sweet sleeping (random) baby:

1/31/08

I got me some big ol’ babies!

Yesterday, we went to the WIC office to apply for benefits and while we were there, the boys got weighed. (Yes, I had to bring them! Gaah! It wasn’t so bad, though. A friend came with me and helped.)

Let’s remember that the boys weighed between 4 lbs 3 oz and 4 lbs 10 oz when they were born, a mere 8 weeks ago.

Yesterday, their weights were:

Linus: 11 lbs, 10 oz
Oliver: 12 lbs, 1 oz (!!!)
Miles: 11 lbs, 4 oz

Gaah! We’re going to be eaten out of house and home when they’re teenagers! Tee hee!

We’re in Baton Rouge now for a few days. George has the flu and with Mardi Gras coming up, it’s just too depressing to be stuck in the house instead of watching parades, sipping daiquiris. So we’re hanging with Grandee again, keeping her from sleeping and generally being nuisances.

Great-Aunt Mary (hee!) reminded me that I should be writing down all of the cute things the boys do so I remember later. So let me describe a cute Miles thing…

He is a wiggly boy, and always manages to get a hand or two out of his swaddle. But I don’t think he realizes that those hands belong to him! So a few times, I’ll go into the nursery because he’s screaming, and see a hand popping up next to his face, while he looks at it in terror. “WHAT IS THIS HAND???” he seems to be thinking. Like it’s a monster’s hand or something.

Ding-dong. Guess you had to be there. 🙂

Miles and THE HAND!!!!!!!!

Miles

Am too tired for a real post, so I’ll just post a few pictures of Miles from yesterday. What a strong neck he has!

Jan 25, 2008

Sorry I haven’t updated in a few days (is it me or does it seem like all of my posts start out like that?) but I took the boys to Baton Rouge and so didn’t have a chance to post. It was great to get out of the house for a few days, and to sleep a bit longer at night. Thanks Mom! The boys loved hanging out with Grandee and meeting a bunch of aunts and uncles and cousins and friends.

Boy, they sure do require a lot of stuff, don’t they? Thank goodness for the minivan. It was stuffed to the proverbial gills with bouncy seats, clothes, blankets, bottles, formula, pack ‘n’ play, strollers, etc, etc, etc. But it was totally worth it. I got to get out of the house and see Juno. Good movie!

I think I’m going to take a nap until the next feeding, which will probably be in five minutes…for now, let me leave you this picture of some other household members napping last night…

Aunt Jenny’s visit

This was a big weekend for the boys! Not only did they meet Aunt Jenny…

but they also met their great-Grandpa and great Uncle Kevin!

They were v good boys for their visit. And Aunt Jenny hardly got any sleep. I’m sure she’s secretly thrilled to be going home to a baby who sleeps through the night.

Grandee and her friend also came to visit on Saturday, and they brought a ton of yummy food that we’re still eating. Mmmmm!

Happy Oliver

A little birdie tells me that it is a certain cousin’s birthday today! (Also my friend Paula!) So, happy birthday favorite second cousin! 😀 Also, Oliver was v happy to hear of all of the birthdays today…

Either that, or he had bad gas. Ha ha ha!
