It’s unlike me to not blog about this right away, but last month when we were at the Grand Meetup, I got tattooed again. Sorta.
You might recognize the three bunnies from my post two years ago.
Decided to gussy ’em up a bit. I had been thinking about color for a while, but couldn’t decide what to do. I didn’t want to just color each bunny in with the boys’ colors (I actually did it with sharpies once and it just looked blah and weird.)
When our company trip to Whistler was being planned, a group of us again talked about getting tattoos. I was looking at the tattoo shop’s website and was immediately drawn to one artist’s style. She did these gorgeouswatercolortattoos and I knew that’s what I wanted. Color that was messy and swirly and unique. (Like triplets? Okay, maybe trying too hard there.)
When the day came, we picked out some colors and she went to town. OH MY GOD it hurt. It hurt for weeks, actually. And the healing process was not pretty. Oh boy. But now, just over a month later, it’s finally ready for its unveiling.
The bunnies are green, blue, and red. The blue and the green are fairly close. I might go back to Auberon next year (if we end up back at Whistler) and have her touch up the colors to make them more contrasty, but I’m not that bothered. The only thing that bothers me is that not long after I did this, the boys changed their hair colors. Oh well, the tattoo is here to stay!
Last week was kind of nuts – the boys were out of school and they were home with me all day. I think we all went a little stir-crazy. Then George went out of town over the weekend (the first time he’s been out of town without one of us since we first started dating) so I got even more quality time with the boys. But not a lot of time to blog.
Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Baking.
Sat through the Yo Kai Watch movie, and paid handsomely for the privilege.
Ziggy did cute things like lie there and chew on a stick.
We had a party while George was gone. The kids finally used the climber! I put up pretty lights!
Miles has crazy hair, Linus and Oliver on the climber.
Took them to the trampoline place.
It’s been really hot here, still. But we did go for another couple of runs.
Wait, did I ever post any pics from when we went bowling with Aunt Tee?
Speaking of, today is Aunt Tee’s birthday! Happy birthday Aunt Tee! We love you!
George’s cousin got married this weekend under this big old oak tree in Audubon Park. It was beautiful – the light was that perfect golden shade you only get in the late afternoon and woah I’m getting poetic here.
Anyway, since we were all gussied up (I could die at the boys’ bow ties) we posed for a family pic.
Next year, when the boys are in fourth grade (!!!) they’ll be able to join the cross country team. They’re pretty pumped about it, and wanted to start practicing now. They also want to do some races, but at $30/entry for a one mile race, well, that’s going to have to wait. (I have my eye on a half mile race that’s only $10/kid, but I wish it was longer. And I wish more races had multiple-kid-friendly pricing.)
Anyway, since they don’t have school today, and it’s cooled off slightly, I told them I’d take them for a run this morning on the levee.
Once we got up on the levee, we experimented with running two or three light poles and walking for one, and for our first run, stuck with a 2:1 light pole ratio of run:walk.
At the turnaround (sun in eyes!)
On the way back, the sun was behind us, which made it a bit more pleasant. And also made for cool shadow pics. Ziggy came too, as you can see.
When we made it back to the starting point, we’d gone 1.17 miles in 18:29. I was so proud of the boys, and they’re excited to go further and faster as time goes on.
Post-run selfie!
The boys and Zigster after the run. You can see the endorphins really kicked in for the human boys!
Four days in to their new obsession. Still going strong-ish. They even asked me to get them some Bicycle cards. Like, they know the brands now. So we went to Walmart after school yesterday so they could replace the free promotional decks I’d given them.
There was a sign. (At least now they’re combining their drawing and magic obsessions!)
And tickets. And a pass. Not sure what the difference is. (Dog hair optional.)
Oliver started the show with a card trick.
Then Miles wowed us with his.
It’s a secret! I have the jack of clubs!
Well I sure don’t see my card in there!
THERE IT IS!!!!
Oliver then switched things up by REMOVING HIS THUMB! And then PUTTING IT BACK ON!!!! (there was no blood, thank goodness.)
Since he again had both thumbs, he was able to show us this card trick:
Next up was Linus! His trick had something to do with 10s?
Well, I don’t know about you, but I was thoroughly charmed. Bravo! (Linus declined to bow for his fans.)
The boys went from being obsessed with drawing comics last week to magic this week. (I do hope they go back to the drawing thing because I bought them sketchpads and nice pencils and stuff.)
Anyway, you want to see them do some magic tricks? Please keep in mind they’ve been doing magic tricks for less than a week. So cut them slack. And they’re 8.
In the midst of all the hair dying this weekend, I let the boys take a bath (instead of the usual shower.) And I ended up taking a sort of update to my favorite picture ever.
I want to say I’m sorry to all of the boys’ teachers, friends, grandparents, cousins, etc.
Miles, Oliver, Linus
Spent the weekend doing a bit of a switcheroo on the ol’ hair colors. So now you need to remember:
– Miles is white-blond-pink-cotton candy
– Oliver is deep purply blue
– Linus is aqua blue
The main issue is that Linus’s hair is the exact color Oliver’s was before. We may end up adding some green to it at some point. I imagine after Linus comes home from school tomorrow after being called “Oliver” fifty jillion times, it’ll be sooner rather than later.
Here it is, the massive, picture-heavy post recapping our big yearly company meetup. This year (and I hope next year and beyond) it took place in Whistler, British Columbia. What a gorgeous setting! Getting there wasn’t my favorite (mostly because of the two-plus hour bus ride from the Vancouver airport) but once we were there, it was fantastic.
Mountains on the way! (And a bus window reflection)
The view from our room. The hotel on the left is where half of the company stayed.
My crazed “I GOT POUTINE FINALLY!!!” face.
I feel like they could be twinsies.
More potential twinsies. (Or triplets since Mikey is in both pics.)
KarKar and me.
The first day was our team day, so I spent the first half with the hiring team, and the second half with all of Happiness.
Athena! Love.
Karen and a bunch of HEs.
Beckett and I got up early one morning and went for a run around a 3.5 mile loop. It was hilly (mountainous, even, for this NOLA girl) and I almost ran all of it. Except for a few steep uphills. I wish I had better photos of the route, but they’re all blurry.
We spent time over the next few days in classes, and I didn’t really take pictures there. But here are a bunch of pretty pictures of Whistler Village:
The whole company took a pic. See if you can find me!
On our activity day, I went up the mountain in a gondola with a few others. It was terrifying and fun and awesome and gorgeous. We hiked a bit, saw some snow, rode a chairlift into a cloud, and saw a giant rainbow. Good stuff.
Video of the chairlift up. It was incredibly quiet and peaceful. Except when I was shrieking in terror. (Kidding.)
On the way up.
My terror-filled face on the chairlift.
Snow! And rocks that we would have plummeted to.
SNOWBALL!!!!!
It was v foggy/cloudy up there. And snowing a bit? Or sleeting? Let’s just say snow.
The chairlift down looked WAY scarier, but because we couldn’t see anything, it was okay! I took a time lapse video of it:
More pics on a mountain:
On the way up.
The weather was so random, as you can see from those photos. Turn one way, and it would be cloudy and gray, and in another direction, sunny and blue.
After the chairlift, we took the peak-to-peak gondola between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. It was pretty crazy.
The cable droops between the peaks. So weird and cool and kind of scary.
High above the trees.
A river runs through it. (The valley)
Don’t come up behind the animals and touch them on the back.
A12s in a gondola!
GOLD!!!!
One day I had some free time and spent it hiking with some friends. We went to Lost Lake, and I don’t think we found the path with the incredible views everyone else got, but it was a lovely hike and I did get some nice pics.
Wait up!
Picturesque stream.
Picturesque path.
Elizabeth capturing the picturesque view.
Picturesque Lost Lake
More lake that was lost.
Random rocks.
I have a thing for “path” pictures.
Picturesque grass.
Does it chap my hide that my favorite pic was taken with my iPhone? Maybe a bit.
Ahhhhh. Nice.
The WWWP5K was Monday morning, and it was on the same path that Beckett and I ran a few days before. The distance was a bit vague, but we ran straight for 37 minutes WITHOUT STOPPING AND ON HILLS AND STUFF so I figure we covered at least 3.1 miles. I guess Orange Theory works after all, eh? I haven’t really run distances in a while, so I was very pleased about this.
Proud of those feet.
Okay, one more batch of pics from our closing party. I was wise this year and didn’t stay up until 4am the night before, so I was able to enjoy it a bit more.
YUM.
YES INDEED.
Clicky wins.
The toast.
The stage.
A12s rock!
Tutu queens!
My beautiful be-wigged team.
But not too much, as I had to be up at 3am to catch the bus back to Vancouver, and then fly home for a zillion hours (whyever United thinks a layover in Newark between Vancouver and NOLA is a good idea, I’ll never know.)
First meal in Canada, last meal in Canada.
Finally made it home at 10:30pm, to many, many, many hugs from my boys. Here’s what Oliver drew before I got home. (RIP me.)
