Accountability and public speaking and green hair and other things

It’s been way too long since I’ve posted a real post. The kind with words and stuff. I feel pretty bad about just posting a bunch of pics about Austin, when I have lots of great memories that I really should be writing down. Let’s just hope the pictures help me remember them later. Or maybe I’ll end up editing that post with more details. We’ll see.

I think the best way for me to organize my thoughts is with bullets, since this’ll be all over the place.

I’ve been thinking for a long time about doing some kind of bootcamp fitness program, but I’ve been unable to find one that was at the appropriate times, etc. I was talking to someone a few weeks ago and she mentioned she was going to Orange Theory Fitness so I looked into it and ended up going to a class yesterday.

It was tough, I gotta say. It’s funny, you think “I can run a few miles at a time, and I can do half marathons without dying, so I must be in some kind of shape” and then you do a class like this and

noooope.gif

It’s high intensity interval training, and there are treadmills and rowing machines and weights and floor exercises and wow, when I got off the rowing machines after a few minutes my legs were like jelly.

So I signed up to go as much as humanly possible and try to get really fit over the next two months (and beyond) because in two months, this is happening…
Say hello to our next group of #WCEU speakers!

Yes, my coworker Erica and I are giving a talk at WordCamp Europe in front of, oh, I don’t know, more than the 20 people I spoke to at WordCamp Dayton. At least I can hide behind Erica, except she is tiny.

Anyway, my only point is that I want to feel good about myself before getting on a stage in front of more than 20 people.

In non-me related things, I continued to allow my children to really express themselves through their hair. I mean, it’s not hurting anyone. It’s temporary (ish, I mean, I did have to bleach their hair to get it this vibrant, but hair does grow) and if you could have seen how happy Linus was after we made his green, well, any doubts would have been wiped away.

Miles wanted to be in the picture too. He of course also now wants to dye his hair, but I pointed out that his acting career might suffer if he does. So we’re leaving it as is for now. Anyway, if I have to end up dying Linus and Oliver’s back, I’ll need a reference for the original color. Ha!

I had a really fun weekend with the boys, not just dying their hair. We saw Jungle Book (really good) and watched a bunch of baking shows on Netflix. MilesCupcake Wars in particular inspired us to whip up a batch of homemade vanilla cupcakes and vanilla buttercream frosting. I even scraped seeds out of vanilla bean pods, that’s how serious we were. They were deeeelish, in spite of the fact that I apparently left a box of powdered sugar at the grocery store after paying for it, so our frosting was more butter than anything. Nothin’ wrong with that

Miles approves of my frosting recipe.

100 monthly pics…the stats

Some silly stats about the monthly pics so far…

  • 8 taken on the wrong day (gasp!) (usually because I was out of town and couldn’t take it myself)
  • 23 taken on the loveseat
  • 29 taken on the side of the house
  • 1 taken underwater
  • 4 special guests (Ziggy, Ellie, Millie, Daddy)
  • 1 taken by someone else (I decided it was better to be taken on the right day than by me. Larry took one when George and I were in England last summer.)
  • 6 taken out of town
  • unknowable number of bribes

I’m editing this post to add, at my friend Liz’s request, some stats about the order.

LOM: 38 times
LMO: 10 times
MOL: 22 times
MLO: 11 times
OLM: 11 times
OML: 8 times

Oliver clearly likes to be in the middle, when possible. (60%)
Linus is first 48% of the time. Miles is, 33% of the time, and Oliver just 19%Miles is rarely in the middle, just 18% of the time.

What does this all mean? Heck if I know.

When I started taking monthly pics of the boys, I didn’t know when I was going to stop. I still don’t.

It’s possible I went a little overboard this month. But I had fun, and even got the boys actually looking forward to the monthly picture, which has never happened.

Props to my friend Teresa who helped out this morning.

Onto the next hundred or two…

March 10 – Watching the LPO play “The Ants Go Marching 2 by 2” or whatever it’s called.

FullSizeRender 7

March 11 – School was cancelled on Friday because of weather that never happened here, luckily. I took Miles and Oliver to IHOP for dinner because they wanted to get out of the house and eat their weight in carbs. I love when they giggle together instead of fight.

FullSizeRender 8

March 12 – It’s hard to show in photos the scale of Saturday’s Easter Egg hunt. I remember the first one we put on – it was just in a field that we prayed wouldn’t be used by someone else, with a few hundred eggs that we scattered around. Four years later, we sold 1000 tickets, had more than enough eggs for everyone, and we had dozens of food vendors and activities for the kids. Amazing. And it didn’t rain! A real miracle. Because the whole team went out and bought rain boots if they didn’t have any already.

IMG_9543

March 13 – The scale was a bit smaller at the neighborhood egg hunt on Sunday. But it was really cute and the weather was gorgeous. The fourth triplet here is their friend Ethan.

IMG_9565

March 14 – There’s this big vacant lot that’s usually littered with trash that I walk Ziggy by every day, and suddenly Spring has sprung because it had exploded in these purple wildflowers. As you can see, my attempts to get a nice picture of Ziggy with the flowers in the background was a giant fail. He’s about as cooperative for photos as the boys are.

A cameo from Ziggy this month.

Just one more month til the big 100! What am I going to do? How am I going to make this special? Well. I have a whole month to decide. Heh.

Got some catching up to do!

FullSizeRender.jpg

February 17: Took the boys to get donuts after school. It was a gorgeous afternoon.

February 18: Just another Ziggy walk.

IMG_8985.JPG

February 19: Miles finished his 100th day of school project! That’s a lotta marshmallows.

22 reasons it’s hard to be a triplet

I’ve been having so much fun making these for the New Orleans Moms Blog (moms, dads, kids, Mardi Gras), that I thought I’d do one for my own blog. The boys helped with some of them, so they’re legit. (See if you can guess which ones they came up with.)

Special thanks to my triplet mama friends who helped me with some of these too!

Edited to add this one from Linus that I forgot to put in the post. But it’s not really limited to triplets anyway.

8 year well visit at the doctor on Wednesday.

8 year stats:
Linus: 58ish lbs; 52ish” tall
Oliver: 59ish lbs; 52ish” tall
Miles: 60ish lbs; 51ish” tall
I lost the sheet of paper with the exact numbers, so it’s a good thing our next door neighbor is our pediatrician! I’ll get the exact numbers and edit this post sometime.

Compared with 7 years:
Linus: 49.6 lbs (50th); 49″ tall (50-75th)
Oliver: 47.8 lbs (25-50th); 48.7″ tall (50-75th)
Miles: 51.2 lbs (50th); 48.8″ tall (50-75th)

monthly pics of triplets by pyjammy.com

98 months!

Getting close to the magic 100, and I’m trying to think of some way to make it special, in spite of the fact that it’s going to be a Monday morning. Hmm.

It was also pretty cold out, but Miles refused to wear a jacket, so his goofy face is probably the only thing keeping him warm.

Brace yourself for some EXCITING photos…

IMG_8670

This is me trying to get a photo of the back of my head. Because when in NYC, we dyed the underneath blue. Because why not?

IMG_8686 2.JPG

Took the boys out for Chinese food Wednesday night.

I asked, they answered

There’s a meme going around Facebook. You ask your kids some questions, they answer. I decided to try it with the boys. They were alone with me when they answered, so they couldn’t be biased by each others’ replies.

1. What is something I always say to you?
Linus: I don’t know.
Oliver: I love you.
Miles: I love you.

Well. Now we know which one listens to me the least.

2. What makes me happy?
Linus: Us being happy
Oliver: Us being happy
Miles: Us happy

Aw. I love that they answered this all the same. But also, Smarties. Smarties make me happy.

3. What makes me sad?
Linus: When we whine
Oliver: When we don’t listen.
Miles: When we fight.

Sad, mad, either way, they’re all correct.

4. How do I make you laugh?
Linus: I don’t know.
Oliver: I don’t know.
Miles: By tickling us!

Apparently, I way overestimate my sense of humor.

5. What was I like as a child?
Linus: You were unhappy. Not lonely, unhappy
Oliver: An ordinary kid. Liked playing outside
Miles: Didn’t have video games

I think I need to discuss my childhood with them more. Oliver probably got the closest, though. Except the outside part.

6. How old am I?
Linus: 41
Oliver: 41
Miles: 41

It pays to be obsessed with your birthday! Though I wouldn’t have minded if someone had thrown in a “31” in there. Oh well.

7. How tall am I?
Linus: 45 inches
Oliver: 6ft tall
Miles: 78 inches

At 5’10”, I’m closest in height to Oliver’s guess.

8. What is my favorite thing to do?
Linus: Hang out
Oliver: Read
Miles: Snuggle

Check, check, check

9. What do I do when you’re not around?
Linus: Work.
Oliver: Work. Or sit down and read or text.
Miles: Work.

I mean. I guess. That makes me sound kind of dull, though. Just as well I love my job.

10. What am I really good at?
Linus: This is a tough one. Reading?
Oliver: Being a parent
Miles: Mario

OLIVER WINS.

11. What is something I’m not good at?
Linus: Yoga
Oliver: Playing video games
Miles: Super Smash Bros

Can’t really argue with Linus (he takes a yoga class and SUDDENLY he’s an expert) or Miles (it’s true, I’m really bad at it) but Oliver has obviously forgotten my stunning victories at Super Mario Bros for the NES.

12. What do I do for a job?
Linus: Help people
Oliver: Help people with blogging
Miles: Help people

Good!

13. What is my favorite food?
Linus: Chips and guacamole
Oliver: Salad or oatmeal
Miles: Pizza

Oliver pays very little attention to my food, apparently.

14. What do you enjoy doing with me?
Linus: Snuggling
Oliver: Going on walks with Ziggy
Miles: Snuggle

Awwww, yep!
