So I called the airline today to see if there was anything I needed to know about flying with an infant. The agent said yes, bring a copy of the birth certificate.
“What is the name of the infant who will be travelling?” she asked.
Oh no! I wasn’t ready for this question! Thinking fast, I answer, “Miles Kocke.” (Why Miles? I dunno. But I did. I said his name.)
She asks me a few more questions, and then I have to ask. “Okay, so, um, what if I don’t bring Miles? What if I bring another baby?”
Silence. I can hear the confusion.
“Um, I have triplets. I don’t know who I’m bringing yet. What if I decide not to bring Miles? What if I want to bring a different baby?”
More silence. I think maybe she starts to understand what I’m saying. She laughs a little and says I can call back later if I decide to bring someone else.
Whew! I can’t deny everyone the pleasure of watching the RKT lottery later on, can I?

Miles is totally your favorite. I’m telling the other boys when they get older.

There is an episode of Rugrats (don’t let your kids watch this annoying show!) where the oldest girl, the brat, Angelica, convices the twins (Phil and Lil) that there is no way their parents could love them equally. One of them must be the favorite and the other is the reject. So obviously Miles is the favorite and Linus and Oliver are the rejects. Those poor boys!

So I have to ask….would Delta ever know if the RKT you brought wasn’t Miles? Probably not. Of course you would know and would want him to be under the right name, but I don’t think they would have any way of knowing. hehe! PS..I just got back from flying Ohio-Denver last weekend with my triplet girls….they did GREAT on the planes. It was more the time change and schedules that screwed them up, but the travel part was fine! Good luck!

thank you so much – I am still laughing. You can tell that story to me as many times as you want and you’ll bring me to tears laughing. I wonder what baby she thought you might bring and what was going to happen to miles. And yes, I am still giggling.

So funny! We’ve flown a ton with our trio and I’ve never been asked for a birth certificate. How would you do it if you took Miles but brought a different baby home? Mmmmmmm…

Holy cow, that’s funny. I mean, there’s no way they could possibly know…you could just bring a baby and pick a birth certificate, right? You should have mentioned that! Have a fun trip! I just recently started taking my guys out one at a time and it’s crazy how “normal” it feels.

I am flying with my 2 month old in August in state, on a flight about 45 min. long. I called Alaska Airlines and they’re telling me that no ID is necessary at this time while bringing a traveling lap baby. Alaska said on their website that a photo id was not required for domestic travel for anyone under 18 years of age, but they also mentioned on the same page different forms of non-photo id that were acceptable. So I am going down to the health district tomorrow to order a birth certificate…just to be safe. It seems odd that the agent I spoke with told me info that was diff that the website. I know it may vary from on airline to another. So I am curious, did they actually ask for ID for the baby after all?
I am logging on from Seattle, I found you’re website through Jessica’s 5 little monkey’s that I read. I’ll add yours now to my google reader because it looks like a great site! Can’t wait to read more! Amy

I’ve had a very similar conversation. I haven’t been here in so long and am glad I stopped back by. Last visit you were still pregnant and had just found out there actually was a dividing membrane between two of the boys. I also didn’t realize they were ALL identical!
