Specifially, Miles and Oliver. For the past two days, they’ve been strangely obsessed with the Elmo Potty Time DVD case. Yes, the case. Not the video or even the shiny silver disk. The case.

There have been more tears shed over this dang case in the past 36 hours than I care to recall. It would be nice to think they’re going to take the initiative when it comes to potty training by carefully studying this DVD case, but I kinda doubt it.
Please, help me understand my odd children. I mean, Miles literally has not let it out of his sight since yesterday afternoon. After he somehow wrangled it from Oliver at about 5 pm, he held it while he played, while he ate, almost while he bathed (I made him put it down while he had his bath. Were it not for the hypnotic pull of the bubbles in the bathtub, he probably would have remained unbathed), and while he slept. Yeesh!

The good news is you are not alone. My Girl Scout co-leader’s son is the same way – but different Elmo DVD. To protect against a melt down they have photocopies of the cover sleeve to keep extra copies of the case in case one gets lost. Now you should not feel weird but happy you found something that keeps them happy.

Wait until they figure out that they can pull the case cover out and play with the paper. We had to tear it in half so Molly and Lilly each got a piece.
Friggen Elmo Potty Movie.

Alex loves ANY dvd case and I have to agree with the previous commenter just wait until they start ripping the paper inside. I especially LOVE when they do this with library DVD’s. 🙂

My daughter, who is now 4, has long been obsessed with DVD cases. We had to put them all up into the bathroom closet because it became such a problem. After a while, she figured out how to drag a kitchen stool into the bathroom and get them down herself. I finally gave up and put them all in a draw she can now reach. Somedays they all stay in there, somedays, they are strewn about the house. I’ve given up. I really like the idea of photocoping the inner sleeve. Genius! Kids are strange beings.
