Glamour Ziggy

I kind of randomly decided to take some photos of Ziggy. That’s about all I have to say in this post. (Except I didn’t turn the ottoman around to show a non-chewed up corner because Ziggy did it, after all.)

Summertime!

It’s been an eventful start to the summer already. Gareth‘s sister and family are in town, which has been really fun for the boys. Rachel has two boys who are nine and twelve, and all of the boys have become fast friends.

There was hanging out at the pub, coloring all of the bricks…

and generally just being goofy. I’ll be sad when they leave at the end of the week! Hopefully we’ll see them again soon, either over on their home turf (the UK) or back here.

I also took Miles to see Angry Birds (terrible, but look, triplets!)

img_1424

and Linus and I went shopping, where I bought him his very own plant to take care of. (It’s spearmint.) (He liked the smell.)

And some movie nights on the sofa with popcorn.

Fun times! Next week will be camp for the boys, and the week after, I leave for Europe! Eep!

Weekend and things

Had a lovely weekend. Went to Orange Theory Saturday morning, then took Oliver to Target to get a pair of pajamas (in theory they all have pajama day this week, but I haven’t actually heard anything about it from their teachers, but it’s not like he’s not going to wear his new pajamas that have the design of some YouTube dude he admires. [WTF, btw. A guy who makes YouTube videos has licensed stuff like pajamas. Also he has blue hair. That is not a coincidence.])

IMG_1263

After the pajama trek, I went and drank wine in Heather’s backyard, and was in theory going to only be there for an hour or two but that turned into coming home at midnight. Ooops. So didn’t go to OTF on Sunday as planned. Instead, made these delicious chocolate chip cookies to bring to my cousin Lisa’s house.

Going to Lisa’s house is always fun. The boys love her boys (who are not really boys anymore, but legit grownups) and there’s always delicious food (some insane corn dip yesterday is something I need to eat every day except not really because it has mayo in it) and Lisa and her husband are super laid back, so it’s just nice.

They are very comfortable at Lisa’s. Maybe too comfortable.

Eli and the boys. Awww!

But the best part is they have a deck along the back of the house, which makes the perfect stage, so now you have to watch this play the boys put on. JK you only have to watch it if you’re related to us.

After the play, snowballs!

IMG_1277

Want to talk a tiny bit more about OTF – I’ve been going a bit over a month now and it’s exciting because I can see muscles that were not there before! Today I was doing this arm exercise thingy, and I couldn’t take my eyes off some muscle, while sweat dripped down my nose. Tomorrow I have an appointment for an assessment with one of the trainers, and I really wish I’d done that before I started. But it’ll be interesting to see my progress from here on out.

Random cute picture of Miles and Ziggy:

It’s the last week of second grade! I can’t believe it. I’ll be glad not to have to do the drive to school every afternoon, but I don’t think I’m ready for third graders.

Good stuff

Here are some good things:

Future lemons and also jasmine

I’m going to have SO MANY LEMONS at the end of the year! Also, my jasmine that I planted last year is growing nicely. I stopped by Home Depot the other day to get some more (trying to cover our fence for privacy) but they didn’t have any. Hmmph.

Orangetheory

Need to get more in that orange zone, yall.

I’m still not dead. I’m starting my third week working out there and my legs definitely feel stronger. I’m not burning as many calories as I think I should be, but I also don’t know if I can work harder without dying. Oh well, keep on keepin’ on.

I do feel really great after the workouts, I have to say. Endorphins are real!

Doing fun stuff for good

Saturday, I’m doing two fun things for a good cause. In the morning, the Pink Bra Run, a 5K to benefit breast cancer. I ordered a hot pink sports bra to decorate (and wear over my clothes, dear god I’m not going to leave the house in just a sports bra)  and I’ll be doing it with my girls, so that’ll be fun.

Later, I’m taking the boys across the lake to a crawfish boil to benefit…something good. I should be ashamed that I don’t know exactly what it’s benefitting, but it’s crawfish! And I’ll get to see Ren!

Reading children

I allowed a production company to use the boys’ ultrasound video (that thing is really making the rounds) and since without them, I wouldn’t have an ultrasound video, I decided to spend the check I got on them. But not on video games. Instead, we went to Barnes and Noble and I let them get whatever they wanted without even looking at the prices. Miles picked out a novelization of The Jungle Book (yeah, I know that’s a book, but we flipped through it at the library, and, well, no, not yet), Oliver got The BFG, and Linus wanted Charlotte’s Web.

IMG_1012

Also I’m happy with Costco Tires. I got a flat tire right as I pulled into the driveway the other day, and it only cost me $37 to replace it. On the other hand, I got a water bill for 4 times what it normally is, so…sigh.

I know there are other things making me happy. My job, for one. Ziggy, also. Yeah, really! Seeing the boys interact with him makes everything else worth it. Wine also makes me happy. Snowballs on the way home from school. Good stuff.

That 366 project

No, I’m not giving up on it like I did last year. But I am definitely being lazy about it. Here are a bunch of pics in gallery format to make catching up easier.

The 9th through 15th are covered in my Austin recap post. I mean, I’m pretty positive I posted at least one picture from each day I was there. Let’s just say I did, mmkay?

So now for the 16th – 25th:

Okay, yes, I missed a day in there. Whatever. I’m being nice to myself and not obsessing over it.

We had a nice weekend in Baton Rouge. My mom and Larry hadn’t seen all three of them in a while. (Miles and I had seen them after his second day of filming.) There was hula-hooping and playing on a playground and going out to dinner for pizza. Sunday I was able to sneak off for a bit to buy some new workout clothes which was nice. We also made some more homemade cupcakes – lemon cupcakes with strawberry buttercream this time, but I don’t know if we should be making a habit of Sunday cupcakes. Well, we still have to make chocolate, so this isn’t the right time to be making a decision.

Speaking of my new workout, I’m really liking it. I am sore, but not like so much that I’m debilitated. It’s more like the “oh right, I have muscles there!” kind of sore. I’ll admit a big part of my motivation is the trip to Europe I have in June where I’ll be up on stage with my beautiful colleague Erica. There will be video of our talk. Need I say more?

Okay, on with the week!

April 1 – 3, 2016

Gotta do a catchup post before tomorrow’s BIG monthly photo…number ONE HUNDRED. I should be embarrassed by the amount of time, thought, and money that have gone into this picture. But I’ve had fun with it, and the boys are actually excited. So stay tuned…

IMG_9981

April 1 – Miles and Ziggy. So cute.

IMG_9990

April 2 – It was an indescribably gorgeous day. Ziggy and I went for a three mile walk.

IMG_0195

April 3 – Yet another insanely beautiful day. The boys and I went to the Insectarium and then walked around the French Quarter and got beignets and met up with some of my friends. My favorite moment was when this blue butterfly landed on my foot. (And then I looked at the picture on my computer instead of my phone and realized I should be embarrassed by the state of my toenail polish.)

March 29, 30, 2016

IMG_9944

March 29 – took the boys to Juan’s for lunch. They ate tacos! It was v exciting.

March 30 – I have a guest photographer today. This photo is courtesy of Linus. The hair on the sofa is courtesy of Ziggy.

We got the boys a point and shoot camera for Easter, which turned out to be a big hit! And now I can outsource my daily  photos. Win-win!

March 21-27, 2016

I’ve been taking pics on my walks around the neighborhood, just to record some of the little details that I love.

IMG_9662 2

March 21 – a fish.

IMG_9676

March 22 – a dog.

IMG_9690

March 23 – and another fish. Okay, apparently animal details are my thing.

IMG_9705

March 24 – a swirly thing that holds back shutters. I assume it has a more technical name.

IMG_9722

March 25 – A bored and jaded Miles while he waits to be called to play his part.

IMG_9907

March 26 – Ziggy. Before he chewed up an entire brand new bottle of Children’s Tylenol. Which, presumably, he didn’t actually ingest because he’s still with us.

IMG_9911

March 27 – sneak peek of next week’s 100th monthly pic!

March 16-20, 2016

IMG_9582

March 16 – I took the boys to the library near our house, and they asked how old it was. I looked at the sign and realized it was dedicated exactly 100 years to the day before Millie was born! (I think. I’m terrible with birthdays.) (That aren’t mine.)

IMG_9604

March 17 -Ziggy on our gray couch with the gray walls and the gray curtains and the gray side table. I’m in a gray phase. Note: this picture was before Ziggy decided he really needed to see how the stuffing in the cushions tastes. Grr.

IMG_9607

March 18 – Took the kids for donuts before school. I’m sure their teachers loved me for that.

IMG_9614

March 19 – Miles came home in his jammies from his first slumber party. He had such a great time, and now the boys want to have one. (He’d been to a sleepover before, but never a full fledged slumber party.)

IMG_9637

March 20 – Miles had to do a timeline project for school. While it was a pain in the butt to get the photos printed (nothing like waiting til the last minute) I’m really proud of his work. He picked the photos and wrote the descriptions (all in French, of course.)

March 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 2016

IMG_9366

March 10 – Watching the LPO play “The Ants Go Marching 2 by 2” or whatever it’s called.

FullSizeRender 7

March 11 – School was cancelled on Friday because of weather that never happened here, luckily. I took Miles and Oliver to IHOP for dinner because they wanted to get out of the house and eat their weight in carbs. I love when they giggle together instead of fight.

FullSizeRender 8

March 12 – It’s hard to show in photos the scale of Saturday’s Easter Egg hunt. I remember the first one we put on – it was just in a field that we prayed wouldn’t be used by someone else, with a few hundred eggs that we scattered around. Four years later, we sold 1000 tickets, had more than enough eggs for everyone, and we had dozens of food vendors and activities for the kids. Amazing. And it didn’t rain! A real miracle. Because the whole team went out and bought rain boots if they didn’t have any already.

IMG_9543

March 13 – The scale was a bit smaller at the neighborhood egg hunt on Sunday. But it was really cute and the weather was gorgeous. The fourth triplet here is their friend Ethan.

IMG_9565

March 14 – There’s this big vacant lot that’s usually littered with trash that I walk Ziggy by every day, and suddenly Spring has sprung because it had exploded in these purple wildflowers. As you can see, my attempts to get a nice picture of Ziggy with the flowers in the background was a giant fail. He’s about as cooperative for photos as the boys are.

Ketchup

I just haven’t posted anything of substance in a while. Let’s see, what’s been going on?

Well, Ziggy has developed a taste for my shoes. Yesterday I found one of my new $$$ running shoes in the backyard, sans an insole, and chewed up. Sigh. I guess I need to spray that bitter stuff on everything. Ugh. He spent the afternoon at the vet the other day while the living room got painted. It was so cheap, I’m glad to know it’s an option for when I have to be out of the house all day, so he’s not too bored.

Speaking of getting the living room painted…it’s almost done! Bye-bye yellow, hello, soothing gray. I love it.

Better, yes? I love it.

I also gave my blog a makeover. New theme! Always fun.

I went on a field trip with Miles the other day. It was pretty cool. They got to learn about a bunch of instruments, then hear the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra play some kid-friendly tunes. Now the boys want to be in a band. YESSSSS! My boy band ambitions for them are coming to fruition at last! Except Oliver said he wants to play the flute. But that’s cool, no reason a boy band can’t have a flute in it.

IMG_9363
Learning about the clarinet

This past weekend I attended two Easter Egg hunts. The first was Saturday morning, and it was the NOMB one. It was huge and awesome. It was a miracle that it didn’t rain. So crazy. The weather was supposed to be terrible all week, school was even cancelled on Friday. But it barely even rained. (We were extremely lucky compared to our neighbors on the north shore who got a lot of bad flooding.)

I took a short time-lapse of part of the hunt. I was in the under-1 area, so lots of babies.

IMG_9460
Me and Megan. Ziggy ate my ears later. Sigh.

And then yesterday, I took the boys to the neighborhood one. It was at this really cute events place. I’d love to see it all lit up at night!

IMG_9544

Last night was the boys’ school fundraiser. I got this in the wine pull. Better than my friend who got a bottle of Yellow Tail. Heh.

IMG_9548

So that’s what has been going on. Coming up is a bunch of travel that I’m excited about. A week in Austin next month to meet with one of my teams, and then a longer trip in June to do some recruiting in Spain and volunteering at WordCamp Europe. In August, I’m taking the boys to visit my brother and his family in California, which we’re all really excited about.
