Race

Just got home from a 5K race I did with Polly. 34:03, which is I think 25 seconds slower than my fastest time. Which sucks. I don’t think I could’ve gone that much faster. And it was finally cold during a race. Which was very nice. So all in all, I’m not disappointed, seeing as I haven’t really been training, but it would’ve been nice to have beat my PR. (And the only reason I think I could’ve is because of the weight I’ve lost since I set my PR.)

Nothing profound to say today. Last night George and I went to the mall so he could return some pants. I tried on three pretty dresses as Dillard’s, just for fun. (I have $20 in my checking account.) It’s exciting to try on pretty dresses now that more of them fit, though two of the ones I tried on were satin, which is so pretty on the hanger, but is not so pretty on my lumpy bits. So must resist the temptation of trying on satin dresses, or self-esteem will plummet. Also I like going to the mall to gaze in the jewelry store windows. Even though my boyfriend pulls me away from the sparkly things. (I like to think he is trying to tell me something with this, but I shall not get my hopes up.)

Yesterday from my office window I watched a Veteran’s Day parade go by. What a great view. Too bad the Mardi Gras parades don’t go by here. On the other hand, I’m on the seventh floor and the windows don’t open, so I wouldn’t be able to catch anything, so maybe it’s best that they don’t go by here.

The new Bridget Jones movie comes out this weekend. Must go see it. My computer just made a weird noise that startled me. Might do a 5K this weekend if Polly wants to. (Maybe I should do it even if she doesn’t. I think it’s another small race, and if she doesn’t do it, maybe I could place. But then again, it’s no fun without Polly.)

Okay, enough babbling. George and I are going to a wedding of one of his colleagues (and, coincidentally or not, two of the members of the band that we decided will play at our wedding. Assuming they’re not of retirement age by then.) I’m going to wear my new pink ballerina-raincoat skirt that I wore to Chris’s birthday last weekend. (It’s made of some strange waterproof-ish material, hence the “raincoat” bit. H&M sure does pick strange fabrics for its clothes. But it was cheap, so that’s okay.)

Biggest Loser

Oh yeah, has anyone been watching The Biggest Loser? I don’t generally like reality shows but this one sucked me in. I guess because I’m trying to lose weight. Duh. That was hard to figure out. Anyway, last week people were extremely upset because they lost only 3 pounds. This week one woman was very upset because she only lost 5 pounds. One guy lost 17 pounds! I mean, I know they have a lot of weight to lose. I know they are working out like fiends. I know they are eating healthily. But how can it be safe (or possible!?!) to lose 17 pounds in one week?? Unless you weigh 600 lbs, it just doesn’t seem safe. Anyway, I wish I could tell these people that if they tried that garbage on Weight Watchers Online, they’d get yelled at by the um little smiley face. You get yelled at if you lose more than two pounds in a week for more than a couple of weeks. Ooh, would those reality show people be in trouuubbblllle!

11/10/04

Yay! Lost one pound this week! Incredible, considering the weekend. I think this is the first time I’ve gone out of town and then lost at the following weigh-in. Yay!

Went to dance class last night. No more shimmying-dance. Whew. The dance we’re learning now includes hip circles instead. Gaaa! Now instead of throwing my boobs around, I’m throwing my hips around. Eep! Anyway, it was a good class. I was able to keep up with everything, even in the tap part, which is rare. But then again, we didn’t do much that was difficult. But still.

November 9, 2004

I really hope this post posts, and today, not in ten years. I  love the idea of emailing my blog posts in, but only when it works. Sigh. Because I want to post about my weekend.

Went to DC to visit Kristina, see my sister and Chris, and most importantly (sorry Kristina, Jenny, and Chris) to meet Alison, Ren and Gary’s new baby. Gaaa! She is very cute. But more on that later…

I got in to DC late Friday night (after midnight) and Kristina and I stayed at her boyfriend’s new house because it is closer to the IKEA and outlet mall. It is very neat (his house) which makes me somewhat envious (no piles of computers or magazines or other crap.) Kristina had gotten me some pumpkin soup from au bon pain (we don’t have them down here) and I ate that when we got to Mike’s house. It was very very very yummy. Mmmm. Yummy.

Went to sleep, woke up late, went to IKEA. Bought a present for Alison (stuffed katt), present for Chris (cool candelabra lamp thingy), shade for front door. Then we met Jenny for lunch at Olive Garden and looked at approximately one thousand wedding pictures. The ones from the professional photographer turned out well. There’s a nice one of George and me that I want to get a copy of. Anyway, after lunch (and pumpkin cheesecake yummmmmy) Kristina and I went to Potomac Mills, and I bought a cute ballerina-y skirt at H&M.

Went back to Kristina’s place, got ready for Chris’s birthday party. Dressed up like Carrie Bradshaw, started drinking wine. Anne came over, mixed us vodka tonics, got ready for party, took taxi to Chris’s friend’s house. Drank Brit-ini’s, sangria, and a little concoction they called Louisiana Sangrias (Fresca and something else) in honor of the birthday boy and Mrs. Federline.

It was fun. I talked at people a lot, as I do when I have imbibed too much. I hope I didn’t embarrass Chris too much. Eep! So we took a taxi back to Kristina’s (so they say, I don’t really remember) and passed out went to sleep.

Sunday we got up blearily, drove to Richmond and hung out with Ren and Alison and Gary’s dad and stepmom (I think) while Gary slept (he’s working nights.) Kristina, Anne and I took turns holding Alison until she started crying, then we’d pass her on to the next person (or Ren, her food source.) She was really cute. I can’t wait to see her when they come to Louisiana for her christening because by then she’ll really be doing things.

After we left Richmond, we met Mike and Bill for dinner at this Italian place. Yum. Then went back to Kristina’s, went to sleep, woke up I think fifteen minutes (okay, six hours) later to get to the airport. Got flight home, went to work very tired, and etc etc. Now I am somewhat more awake.

The end of my story about my trip! Pictures soon.

Blaaaaah.

Well, not much can be said about last night. Certainly I’m not a good enough writer to express what other Kerry supporters will say much better. So there we are. Blah.

Lost .4 this week. I suspect would have been more (I’m always full of excuses on Wednesday mornings, aren’t I?) but last night Colin and Polly came over to drink beer and watch the election returns and at around 10:30 the pizza they ordered was delivered. And I had two pieces. Certainly that pizza is what made me not lose so much. But at least I lost some, so who cares. There are more important things.

Anyway. Blah.

Halloween pictures!

Fun was had. But now I’m pissed because George and I were going to spend a lovely day in City Park but everything’s closed on Monday. Including the sculpture garden I was excited about visiting. Why does that have to be closed? Sigh. So now our lovely plans are ruined. Blech.

10/30/04

You know what I hate? When I email a post and it never shows up. And when it was funny. Course, I don’t remember what I said, so I could be over-estimating the quality of the post. But still. So it may show up at some point, and it will be all out of order. Blah.

Anyway. Last night I went to dinner and bowling with Regan, Mandy, and Melissa from Barnes & Noble. Even though I haven’t worked there in a year and a half, I’m glad I have managed to stay friends with them. They are really fun girls. My arm was sore this morning from the bowling, though. (I suck, in case you were wondering. But so did they, so even though I lost the first game with a whopping score of 54, I won the second one with a score of like 76 or something. Thank goodness they were drinking more than me, or else I never would’ve won.)

Today I’ve been working in the yard. It is 87 degrees outside. Hellish. But I dug up some stuff, which is always fun, in preparation for the trees I’m going to plant. I got ten trees for ten dollars from the Arbor Day Foundation, so as soon as they come in, they’ll be ready to go in the ground. Exciting!

Found it! (this is from friday)

I posted something via e-mail yesterday, but it never showed up. Never mind, I doubt it was very interesting. Not that I have something interesting to say today, or anything. Hmm. Tonight I’m going bowling. That’s interesting! I haven’t been bowling in many years, even though I keep thinking I want to go. So that’ll be fun. I’m going with the Barnes & Noble girls. I haven’t seen them since George and I had to run out of Mandy’s wedding with his tongue swelling up. Pleasant. I hope she didn’t see that.

And we have Monday off. Yay! Working for the Catholics rule! Lucky George has Monday and Tuesday off, for election day. I wish. Anyway, on Monday, if the weather is nice (I already know it probably won’t be cool) we’re going to take the streetcar to City Park (stopping en route to get ice cream at Angelo Brocato’s) and wander around the new sculpture garden, go to the New Orleans Museum of Art, and then walk to Whole Foods and get the fixings for a picnic. At least that’s the plan. Sounds idyllic, doesn’t it? I hope we really do all that.

Last night I worked on my costume. Made a tutu out of many layers of black tulle. Excitingly, I figured out how to make my mom’s sewing machine work. Well, it’s mine now. Anyway, now I can sew things! Not that I will, mind you, but I could if I wanted! Like my knitting, I will probably only sew square things. Like pillows and stuff like that. No clothes or anything. I am just not that ambitious. But maybe I could try something easy, like a straight skirt or something. Except I don’t like straight skirts. Hmm.

Saturday night, George and I are going to a party of someone I used to work with. Thank goodness I have somewhere to wear my costume! I was getting worried.

Boorrrring

Have to go to some religious thing for work soon. Am not v.
pleased about it, but we do get free lunch. I’m just worried
about the free doughnuts. Must…stay…away.

Because of various biological factors (ha ha!) this morning I
weighed about 2 lbs less than yesterday. I know it doesn’t mean
anything, really, but it was good to see.

Now I have to go, to talk about God. (Nothing against God, of
course, I just don’t like to talk about it.)
