RED ALERT!

img_8033Just a quick note to record for posterity…

Linus ate sushi!

Okay, admittedly it was the most innocuous sushi roll on the planet (snow crab and…that’s it.) And he wasn’t a huge fan of the soy sauce. BUT. Something new! Exciting!

(He’s home sick again from asthma. Had to pick him up from school again today. Ugh.)

He’s also into pistachios now which is great. None of them are fans of nuts (unless you count Oliver’s love of Reeses) so it’s nice to have another healthy snack option for at least one of them.

15 years of blogging!

Well, 15 years and a few weeks.

I started it because I wanted to document that I was training for a marathon.

July 10, 2001

“…one day, driving back from the beach, I told Kristina I might want to try to run the London Marathon. The next day, I decided to do it.”

The first year or so of posts were written in monthly HTML documents that I would update and re-upload to my site. From what I can tell, I didn’t buy the domain pyjammy.com until March 2002, so I don’t remember where I hosted it before that. Maybe Geocities. Or Earthlink. Or Prodigy. Ha ha ha! No, seriously.

Anyway, here’s what it looked like in 2002:

Yeah, I had a splash page. Which was this huge graphic with mapped links. Soooo 2002.

At some point, I moved it to Blogger, I think. And then finally in 2008 I moved it to WordPress.com. The very same company I now work for! It was self-hosted for a while, and then in 2014 I moved it back here to WordPress.com, where it shall live forever.

This post will be the 3,619th post, which works out to 241 posts a year. Not too shabby!

On to the next 15!

When I started taking monthly pics of the boys, I didn’t know when I was going to stop. I still don’t.

It’s possible I went a little overboard this month. But I had fun, and even got the boys actually looking forward to the monthly picture, which has never happened.

Props to my friend Teresa who helped out this morning.

Onto the next hundred or two…

First Apple purchase

Big milestone today! The boys made their first Apple purchase, an iPad mini they saved up for. Now we have three, so I am now confident we’ll never have an argument in our home again. Peace will reign forever!

Bye tooth!

It’s been probably a year since any teeth have been lost, but at about 5:20 this morning, Miles woke me up to tell me his very wiggly front tooth was now gone.

When Linus lost his front tooth, there was already an adult tooth behind it (I assume because the tooth he lost had been damaged years before, somehow forcing the adult tooth to come in faster? Is that a thing?) so this is the first gap-toothed grin we’ve seen from the boys.

Love!

Two wheels!

Today was a big day in our house.

The afternoon started like this, with training wheels on.

SAMSUNG CSC

But not for long. They’re almost seven, after all. (They only got bikes last Christmas, so they haven’t had them very long.)

SAMSUNG CSC

Daddy took them off, and within an hour, they were riding without them!

Everyone got Daddy hugs when they were done.

Hooray! The boys all walked home together.

SAMSUNG CSC

The end.

Big milestone! Linus lost his first tooth! He was so nervous yesterday (it was super wiggly, thanks to an errant shoe to the mouth courtesy of Oliver) but by today he was just ready for it to be out. Not ready enough to attach a rocket to it, mind you, but ready.

His brothers were nearly as proud as he was. So sweet!

Now I just have to manage to sneak into their room later to do my Tooth Fairy duties.

But that gap made me a bit teary. The last vestiges of babyhood are going. Sniff, sniff.

In denial?

I’m sure it was just a fluke. Please tell me, it was just a fluke.

I finally broke down on Friday and bought a potty. Not because we’re ready to potty train, but because I figured we should just have one and let them look at it and maybe sit on it, whatever. I knew I’d be giving them baths that night, so I thought it would be a good time to try it out. I didn’t think they’d actually do anything, you know?

But maybe they’re showing signs of readiness. Or something. They know that “Shrek go potty!” at the beginning of the movie. If that’s not a sign of readiness, I don’t know what is. And then I start to get all paranoid that I’m going to miss some crucial potty training window. That if I don’t address it now, they’ll be in diapers til they’re ten.

So I bought the freaking potty.

And Oliver pooped in it. (Sorry. At least I didn’t take a picture of it. Ha ha ha! Ew.)

And I was so stunned that I wasn’t sure what to do. I praised him and then threw him in the tub and then freaked out inside.

After talking to some other moms, I’m a little calmer. I don’t have to potty train him right away. I can just keep putting him on it whenever the mood strikes. But I think when I do get a little more serious about potty training, we’ll do it one at a time, and start with Oliver.

So I’m going to believe it was a fluke, and not that my kid is some kind of pooping genius.

Am I doing this right?

2008 in pictures + some excitement

One picture of all of the babies from each month this year. I know, you could also do this by looking at their monthly pictures on the right. But that takes the fun out of this exercise!

And today, the boys’ official First Word! Here it is, demonstrated by Miles, though all three are saying it.

Tooth?!

I think we almost have our first tooth! I was getting worried for a while there, that we’d have to invest in baby dentures or something. But Linus is very close to having one pop through. For real this time. I know, I’ve been saying it for six months, but it has to be true sometime, right? I’ll try to get a picture this afternoon. Ack, it’s going to be so cute with those little bottom teeth poking out.

I wonder if the other two will follow shortly after. I think Miles and Oliver have something happening too, but not as imminent as Linus. Which makes me think – was Linus the first half of the egg, and then the other half split to make Miles and Oliver, making him technically a day or two older? Interesting. Miles and Oliver did have a thinner membrane between them. They were the two we thought for a long time were monoamniotic. Very interesting. Also, Miles and Oliver look more alike than Linus, with his cowlick. Hmmm. Here is my theory:

Okay. Maybe that was a bit much. It’s just a tooth!

Anyway. Regarding the weight loss stuff. I did well yesterday, thankyouverymuch. Stayed within my limits for calories, fat, etc, etc. Maybe could have used a little more protein. I really need to go grocery shopping. My lunch yesterday left much to be desired, but it was all I had in the freezer at work. Today I have leftover Shepherd’s Pie that I made last night for dinner. Usually, I just toss whatever sounds good into it, but I was really careful about what I put in it last night, so I could accurately count the nutritional value. Mmmm.

First food!

Last week, we decided to let the boys try rice cereal. Let’s just say we’re going to wait a little while before we try again. Heh.

Linus is first up.

I think he likes it!

Or does he?

Well, Daddy definitely does, anyway.

(Yes. George is disgusting.)

Miles is next.

Can’t say he’s thrilled with it.

Quite the opposite, in fact.

Well, we tried!

Daddy still likes it!

Oliver goes last.

He doesn’t seem too impressed.

Surprised, though.

The end!
