Gimme a click!

There, now that we got that out of the way…

Can I tell you how excited I am for this weekend? That’s because I’m gettin’ rid of the kids! Yep, they’re going to Granny and Grandpa’s house, for the first time in eons. (Granny’s been sick, but thankfully she’s feeling better now.) We even get to do Christmas, three weeks late. I do love Christmas, so getting to do it again so soon is pretty exciting.

But mostly I’m excited that I get to SLEEP LATE! And go out with my girlfriends tomorrow night (please let the Saints win tomorrow so the city is in a good mood!) And maybe even go to the gym! George and I were talking about going to a movie…TOGETHER! This is almost too much.

Now let me post a few pictures. I’m proud to say I’ve been using my DSLR a lot more lately, because of the 365photos project. And I’ve even been shooting in manual every now and again. Maybe by the time December rolls around you’ll be able to see improvement in my pictures.

Linus with his favorite letter…W. And M. It’s a W! Turn it over and it’s an M! Too, too exciting.

(At first, I thought this was Miles. Then I realized Miles was wearing a different shirt yesterday. And then I thought it was Oliver. But then I saw the Shrek DVD and realized it was Linus. See, those things are kinda handy!)

Someone just finished crying.

Binky…check. Extra binky…check. DVD case…check.

The DVD cases never leave their side when they’re at home (they even sleep with them) but they know that they have to give them up as soon as they walk in the door to daycare. Same with binkies. Why can’t it be that easy for me?

New look

New year, new look! Whatcha think?

I know I read most of my blogs through Google Reader, so I don’t really notice when people change the look of their blog. But I know a lot of people here read my blog directly, so I hope you like the new look! I may still be working out some of the kinks over the next few days, so bear with me…

Maybe not the best picture, technically, I thought it was a sweet moment between Oliver and Daddy. While Miles and Linus duked it out over the cereal box.

3 easier than 1?

I find it highly amusing when people call me a Supermom for having triplets (as if I had any choice in the matter). This morning, it occurred to me (and not for the first time) that for me, it’s easier to have three than it would be to have just one.

Why?

Because I’m lazy.

Because there are three of them, I can leave them in their cribs until they’re 4, and I don’t have to teach them to sleep in a toddler bed. No one will bat an eye (or they’d better not!) because I can use the excuse “but they’re triplets! They’ll become a roving pack of wild toddlers if they’re not confined to their cribs!” Same with potty training. If I had one little boy, I might have bought a potty already. But the thought of going out in public and getting three little boys to use the bathroom sends chills down my spine. Not to mention the accidents…times three.

I propped their bottles when they were old enough to sit in their high chairs. I didn’t rock them to sleep, and they had to learn to fall asleep after being put in their crib awake. I didn’t nurse them, and they never slept in our bed. I bathe them a couple of times a week at best. When you have triplets, you learn all sorts of tricks to make things go more efficiently, things that you might not consider when you have just one.

(Here’s my favorite bottle prop of all…a sleeping daddy!)

Am I sad that I didn’t get to rock a baby to sleep every night, or nurse, or at least cuddle with my infant while he ate his bottle?

Sure I am.

But there’s the whole “entertaining each other” aspect that helps make up for it.

Too bad it often culminates in “fighting with each other” though. Hmmm…

Fighting over the car

Ah well. In the end, it’s really not that bad. Mostly because it’s all we’ve ever known.

Linus in his blue jacket with his blue eyes. I still wonder…how in the world did I end up with blue-eyed children? (No genetics lesson needed, I mean I know why…but still, it’s weird!)

Proof that vegetables are, indeed, occasionally ingested by the toddlers. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes.

Look what came in the mail!

The newest Orient Expressed catalog!

I know, I’ve already posted the website version, but there’s something about getting it in the mail, printed and real. Exciting!

(and yes, that is my red coat sleeve, thank you.)

Linus coloring (or “cuh-nuh-nuh” as the boys say.)

One of their favorite things to do. One of my least favorite is picking up the millions of crayon pieces that litter the playroom floor.

35 + 1/365

Had a great birthday yesterday! Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for more.

Spent Friday evening with a few girlfriends and a bottle of wine, and then Saturday morning I was not awakened by three two year olds. Well, I kinda was, but I didn’t have to get up. I laid in bed while they were changed, fed, and brought back to the playroom. Then I had my breakfast and only after that did I grace them with my presence.

We put the boys down for a nap shortly after our friend Julie and her husband arrived, and then George and I headed out to lunch. We went to Palace Cafe to have the best hamburgers in the whole wide world, and then walked around the French Quarter to find a birthday gift for a friend’s seven year old. It was cold, but so sunny and clear that I didn’t care that I couldn’t feel my fingers or toes.

After we got back home, we played with the boys for a little while and then got them ready for the seven year old’s birthday party. That was fun! There was pizza (not that I ate any, after our huge lunch) and chocolate cake (I did eat that) and homemade ice cream (ditto) and light sabers for the boys and twinkling wands for the girls (or whatever…see yesterday’s post) and wine for the adults and all sorts of fun toys for the kids to play with. We spent a couple of hours there until the boys’ stench forced us home to change diapers.

Lightsaber fight!

Sparkly wands are fun too…and note the DVD cases.

The boys were absolutely insane when we got home. I mean, talk about a sugar high (though I suspect it was more from the caffeine in the cake)…they were spinning and jumping and yelling and running and giggling and doing fine impersonations of tornadoes. We were a little scared they wouldn’t go to sleep, but we put them in bed at seven and they crashed hard. Whew.

A couple of girlfriends came over, and we got takeout Chinese food and drank yet more wine and played on the Wii but mostly just gossiped and chatted and all that good stuff.

And that was my perfect birthday. 🙂

We went to a birthday party for a seven year old boy today in our neighborhood. There were light sabers for the boys (coooool) and twinkly star wands for the girls. The boys did enjoy their light sabers for a while, but found themselves entranced by the stars too. This is Linus with his star wand.

(And yes, I pretended the party was for me.)

Miles of smiles….

Now we just need to get rid of the pacifiers, but I’m not quite ready for the hours and hours of screaming this is going to entail.
