Woo!

Sorry, Texas, but I can’t help but be happy that Ike isn’t headed our way. It sucks that hurricanes have to go somewhere, so while you’re wishing it away from you, you’re only asking other people to be in its path. My apologies.

But Ike heading away from us means that Kristina gets to come here tomorrow as planned! Ren’s baby Chloe is being christened this weekend, and Kristina’s her godmother. We also have Chloe’s big sister’s birthday party on Saturday, which means cake! Yum! I do love cake. To put it mildly.

Kristina, being a glutton for punishment, asked if she could keep one baby on Friday while the other two are at daycare and I’m at work. Awww!

Based on this picture, I’ll bet it won’t be Oliver…

But then again, based on this picture, maybe it will be:
Oliver and his bling

We’ll see…

Woo!

Am so excited…in less than three weeks, I’ll be spending the weekend in the DC area with Kristina and my sister and Emily and my other DC-area friends. Since it’s just me going, I’ll be bringing just one baby with me. And I’m going to pick fairly (in case they’re reading this in 15 years…) and draw a name out of a hat. Either that, or I’ll just take lots of pictures in different outfits, and Photoshop the resulting photos to make it look like I brought all three. (And in that case, of course I’ll edit this entry.)

If you’re disappointed that I’m not bringing all three boys, do this…drink several beers. And then you’ll see three. They’re identical, you won’t know the difference! Or if you’re not a drinker, squint. Or something.

I can’t wait to see my Emily again, and to see Kristina’s new house, and Annie and her son Whitman and their new house. And hopefully meet some of my blog friends too! Egads, it’s exciting!

We had a pretty low-key fourth of July. We didn’t even see a single firework! But we did hang out with some friends for a little while. Mostly I was preparing for the most exciting part of the weekend…Saturday night!

My boss and his family took all three boys overnight so George and I could have some time to ourselves. People, I slept until ELEVEN IN THE MORNING! It was blissful. I took some Tylenol PM to make sure I didn’t hear phantom baby cries in the night.

We also went to dinner with friends and I saw WALL-E. Ack, I loved it! Want to see again.

So that is me right now. If anyone has tips for flying alone with a baby, please feel free to share!

Now, for your enjoyment…

Linus does “the lip”

And now Oliver…

Our aquarium trip from last weekend: Note Miles eating his blue stroller. He looooves blue stroller. It tastes goooood.

Linus, lecturing from the chair I won in a contest on ohdeedoh.com:

But he didn’t like the chair for very long:

And hanging out at Gulf Pizza on the Fourth. Babies, babies, everywhere!

5/15/08

I know, I need to post. It’s been a few days. Let’s see…

Well, George’s birthday was yesterday. But I can’t say it was very exciting. Miles’s eyes were swollen and a little goopy, and the weather was horrible, so we didn’t go anywhere. I cooked some fish that my boss had caught out in the Gulf. It was yummy. Poor George, he doesn’t even like fish very much!

Let’s just hope that Miles is all better by Sunday, the big day! I think he will be. He was already much better by this morning.

Next week, Kristina is coming for her visit. I’m so excited for her to meet the boys! We’ll be leaving the following Sunday for the big road trip to San Antonio. Me, Kristina, and the boys. Fuuun! Hopefully we’ll be staying overnight in the Houston area so we don’t have to make the entire trip in one day. It’s going to be an adventure, that’s for sure!

See, not much is going on right now. I’ll have to take some pictures of the boys so I can post them and make this a little more interesting…

11/13/07

Sorry I haven’t been posting much. Kristina is in town and between work and hanging out with her, I haven’t had much time for anything. But we’ve got the house in a state of high organization. It’s v exciting.

Today is our 2nd anniversary! Yay! We didnt’ do anything since we went out to eat last week, so it’s kind of anticlimactic. But still. Yay us! Hee.

I also had an appointment with the MFM. Dare I say it was slightly…boring? But only in the best way.

Took the glucose test (don’t know the results yet, dear god I hope I passed!) and then went in to see my doctor. Babies look good (didn’t get their weights, I forgot to ask, but he didn’t mention them, so that’s good), my cervix is “a role model cervix”, nice, long, and closed (sorry to the squeamish, but this is a big deal), my blood pressure was fine, etc, etc, etc.

Babies are so cute – we got some great face shots. All babies are head-down (which makes not a whit of difference in my circumstances, just saying) but some of them have their feet by their heads. Silly kids. 🙂 I will have George scan the pics we got later so you can see. We saw hair on Baby B, which doesn’t surprise me at all – George and I are both pretty hairy, after all. Heh.

I guess that’s about it…I go back a week from Friday, but just for a checkup. I won’t see them again on u/s until December 10 – if I make it that long. That’s 34 weeks! Yow! I hope I make it that long!

Soooo…yeah. Good appointment!

Recap

I know, I know, I know, I haven’t posted in forever. But I’ve been so busy!

Here’s a basic rundown:

Jan 12-16: Pittsburgh. Hung out with Polly, Colin, and Amelia. Gave serious thought to babynapping Amelia. Dang, but she’s a cute, sweet baby. Curled up right on my chest and slept a lot. So so so cute. Can’t wait til they come back to visit in April! yay!

Flight home was delayed, though, and ended up staying an extra night. More Amelia for meeee!

Jan 16: On way to work from airport, stopped at Wendy’s for lunch. Big mistake. Ended up barfing all night long. And the next day. Yuck. Still don’t feel 100% better. But hey, lost 3 lbs or something like that. However, I don’t think I’ll be using that again as a weight loss strategy.

Jan 19-21: Visa Las Vegas! (Okay, that commercial stuck with me.) Kristina’s bachelorette party. We stayed at the Wynn, which was beautiful. We walked, ate, and drank a lot. Didn’t gamble too much. Mostly on nickle slots and video poker. Fun. Got home after midnight last night. Zzzzz.

Pittsburgh recap

Sooo, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted. Yes. But I’ve been v busy. I am v important busy person. You may now even refer to me as “Board Member Pam.” Yes indeedy, I am that important.

So, my week in Pittsburgh (with a foray to Northern Virginia) went a bit like this:

Sunday: woke up at ungodly hour to catch 6 am flight. Met Kristina at airport (she drove in.) Went to IKEA. Checked into hotel. Walked to Pirate’s game. Got sunburned. Ate lots of food. Went back to hotel, rested. Went to dinner at Piper’s Pub, a Scottish pub that Polly and Colin recommended. Drank some beer, ate some toad-in-the-hole. Delish. Got a cab back to the hotel, hung out in hotel bar with roadie from some heavy metal band. We are cool chicks.

Monday, Memorial Day: Woke up, decided to walk to Penzey’s, the spice store I’ve been dying to visit. Me, being a Southerner, didn’t realize how big Memorial Day is up north. So the fact that EVERYTHING was closed was a bit of a shock to me. So no Penzey’s for us. After we trekked back downtown, we took the teeny subway to Station Square, a “mall” (I use the term very loosely) that was also largely closed. We ate lunch and then took the v scary incline up to Mt. Washington and admired the view and the houses. Ate some ice cream, went back to hotel, Kristina left for DC. I took a nap and then met with fellow members of conference planning committee for dinner. (Buca di Beppo…mmmm!)

Tuesday: Conference began (actually, pre-conference.) Seminars were interesting, esp the one about computer forensics. Tuesday night was the opening picnic. I got to eat another french-fry sandwich. Yum. I went to the gym that morning, did I mention?

Wednesday: Real conference beginning. Went to seminars. That night, my coworkers and I went to an outdoor mall where I shopped and then we ate dinner. Went back to hotel where we visited the hospitality suite. Fun!

Thursday: More conference. That afternoon we had the big outing. The Cathedral of Learning with the Nationality Rooms – very cool, a tour of the cathedral, and then a boat trip up and down the rivers with dinner and faux-gambling. I am now a faux-roulette expert.

Friday: last day of conference. I won a seat on the Board of Directors! V exciting. Friday night was the closing banquet. Yummy food, we had a fun table, and I won another printer! (Last year, at the closing banquet I won a photo printer. This year, a big ol’ inkjet that will come in v handy for my design jobs.) They had these ethnic dancers (Eastern European) that were highly entertaining.

Saturday: up at another god-awful hour for another early flight, this one to DC. Kristina picked me up, and we went to her house. I took a nap, we got manis/pedis, and then I started making five batches of hamburger and hot dog buns. Only I made them too small, so we ended up having a ton of rolls. Just rolls. Lots left over. Too bad I didn’t bring any home. Mmmm. Bread. I drank too much champagne punch, made a toast (before too much punch was imbibed, I think) and had lots of fun. Too much.

Sunday: got up not too early for flight home. Only one bag made it with me, not the big one. Sucky. But now everything is back safely in my hands.

Last night we went to Jacque-Imo’s for dinner with Polly and Colin and Teresa and Jon. Polly and Colin are moving to Pittsburgh on Sunday. 😦

6/12/02

Okay, so those prayers went unanswered. No work so far. But a few leads. Sarah knows someone at Tulane who may need help with a database, but she hasn’t called or emailed me back, so I’m not holding out much hope for that. I went to Barnes & Noble yesterday to fill out a job application. Laurie’s James put a little note on it, maybe that’ll help. I almost went to the unemployment office Monday, but I didn’t. Or yesterday. I chickened out, I’ll be honest about it.

Kristina left for Virginia this morning, she’s getting lasic surgery on her eyes. Lucky! Although I don’t know if I’d ever get it myself because I don’t like people cutting my eyeball open, I’m envious that she won’t have to wear glasses or contacts again. Maybe if she says it’s not so bad, I’ll consider it one day. She at least can wear contacts, I personally hate them, so I’m stuck with glasses. Which I also hate. So maybe one day…

Anne’s sister Becky’s friend (and ours) Jen is coming in town tomorrow. I get to entertain her. Yay! I’m going to take her to, um, well, okay, Algiers for pub quiz night. Hey, she went to Yale. Maybe we’ll actually win something this week!

Oh yeah, and I finally got my official marathon photos! Yay! Woo hoo! Of course, the dreaded fanny pack (perhaps I should just call it a waist pack to avoid any cross-cultural faux pas) makes me look disgusting, but other than that, I’m happy about them. It’s exciting! Except that they actually want me to send back two of the photos. *&#($ that! I don’t think so! Let ’em come after me (or put the cost on my mom’s credit card. Either one is fine with me.) So here they are:

6/10/02

Oh, I hope I work tomorrow! Please, please please please let me work tomorrow! And Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. And the ones after that, and so on and so forth so I can pay the rent next month. Blecccch.

Had a lovely, lovely weekend. Spent most of it with George, hence the loveliness of it. Thursday night, I did the unthinkable – saw George Porter in concert. I always swore I’d never see him again, but George wanted to go, so I went. And had fun, if only because of the company (siiiigh…am I sad or what?) Earlier that night we went to pub quiz night, and lost…again…but played with these four 21 year old girls who made me feel reeeeeally old. I think that we grow up more from our early to late twenties than in any other time of our lives. So far, anyway. So on Friday, I hung out with George (he had taken the day off work) and went home, took a nap, and went to the Quarter with Kristina and John and his new girlfriend, Blair, who we adored. Yay! We drank all sorts of fruity concoctions and got pretty tipsy, but had a great time. Spent Saturday with George, just hanging out, then went home, took a nap (sound familiar?) and went to Anne’s mom’s house for dinner. It was really nice to see her, not least because she was so happy to see us. Always nice. Then Kristina and George and I met up with John and Blair again at the R Bar and just stayed there most of the night. Good people, good fun, great time. Life is wonderful! (Except for the unemployment stress…)

Today Kristina and I saw “Insomnia” which was okay. Not the type of movie I like to see, in general, but it was a good way to pass the afternoon. Then we rented the videotape of the last five episodes of the third season of Sex & the City. Sad to see it end. Wish season four would come out on video right now!!!

Please let me work tomorrow!!!!

Month of change

Whew! Who knew your entire life could change in a week or so? I suppose I should say month. April has been a month of change for me, that’s for sure. Run a marathon. Change careers. And that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceburg. So yes, yesterday Sarah and I amicably decided to part ways. Best for everyone. The company, particularly. The wine side of things is taking off more than MardiGrasStore.com ever can (well, it’s not like wine is seasonal) so my job has become a bit less important. Which I’m perfectly fine with. I’m excited about exploring new career possibilities. (wow. how cliche’d can i get?) Anyway, that’s my big news now. Wish I could say I’ve been running since Saturday, but I have not. Yesterday was kind of hectic, and tonight I’m cooking dinner for Ren and Gary and Kristina and George. So maybe tomorrow. Oh yeah, and the tenth is my last day, and since Kristina will be free the following week (the week before graduation) I’m not going to have a mini-vacation that week. Woo! Well, I do have a dentist’s appointment on that Tuesday, so it’s probably for the best that I won’t be going to work all drooly and numb and spitting blood like I did last week. Ew. And I can interview at some temp agencies, which is what I think I’m going to do for the summer. After all, this may be my last summer to do something like this. Wish I had lots of money saved up. Then I’d go back to London. Sigh.

4/23/02

Off the pills today. That’s good. Still sore, but last night, Ren, Gary, Kristina and I went to dinner and near the end of it, I was all pale and sweaty and clammy from the Vicodin. So I’m not taking that again until the next appointment. In three weeks. Ugh.

I wonder if I’ll feel up to running this afternoon. Probably not. Hopefully by tomorrow afternoon. Cilla said I have lots of extra red blood cells floating around because of the work, and that it’d actually help me. Hmmm. Hopefully they’ll still be there tomorrow afternoon. Ha ha! Oh, but John’s coming to visit tomorrow afternoon, so I may not be able to run then, either. Oh well. I’m still recovering, anyway. We’re going to Port of Call tomorrow night to celebrate the end of Kristina’s classes and work. I just hope my mouth is better by then, because they have the most delicious, juicy, fat, yummy hamburgers, and if I can’t fit one in my mouth, I’ll be sad. Maybe I’ll have to blend it up first. ha ha! gross.

Post-marathon

Oh heck, this’ll have to do for now.

So, how am I faring, post-marathon? Well, still wearing one of the three London Marathon t-shirts every day. Yesterday, I finally took the medal out of my bag (so that I could whip it out at every possible opportunity) and hung it in my room so it wouldn’t get messed up. Went for my first post-marathon run yesterday with Kristina at the park. Did two loops, ran approximately one, walked one. Felt good. I’m very pleased to report that I have no lingering injuries or aches (or even blisters!) from the marathon.

Now what? I never did just use my blog for marathon stuff only, did I? And now that I have no marathon to train for, this will probably be more about my day-to-day life. Just warning anyone who is reading this. But I do need to figure out what I’m going to do next. I’d love to run more 10Ks. But there just aren’t any in the area until possibly the fall. I don’t know, I need to do more research. So I guess I’ll stick to 5Ks for now. But my real goal is just to get in overall shape. Of course I’ll keep running. But I’m going to join a gym (and soon) and hopefully, by the end of the summer, lose about 30 or 40 lbs, get my upper body into shape, so that when the fall rolls around, and the longer races start up, I’ll be ready to go fast.

I’ve been thinking lately about summer in New Orleans. Well, I hate New Orleans, I hate the South, I hate heat, I hate roaches. I hate humidity. I really, really don’t want to spend another summer here. I really, really hope this is my last one. Hmmm. I suppose it’s one of those things that I have to make happen, though. I can’t just sit around and hope that I will somehow move away from New Orleans in the next year. So that’s my other goal. Get out of here! Of course I want to move to England. But after battling some huge 3-4″ cockroaches the other night (they won, I ran away) the point has been driven home. I gotta get out! My summers are spent living in fear of roaches. Okay, I’m a wuss. But we all have fears, and roaches are at the top of mine. (#2 – razorblades and other sharp objects. #3 – falling. this is why i don’t ski or ride bikes or rollerskate, especially downhill.) Unfortunately, yesterday evening was just lovely, which makes it slightly difficult to stick to my resolve. Mind you, only very slightly difficult. London was far more gorgeous, every time I’ve been, even during a visit I made in October of 2000, when it rained the whole time. Never mind. Rain can be nice.

This morning I had to go to the dentist. I was made to understand that this visit was kind of a preliminary bridgework visit. They’d look at my teeth again, make an impression or something for the bridge I have to get. But then, after I sat down in the chair, the hygenist came after me with a swab full of numbing agent, and I freaked out. Four hours later, in pain and drooling blood, I got to leave. Without one of the teeth and a crown I went in with. Yeesh. I feel violated. At least I got some good painkillers out of it. On which I’m writing this blog. Ha ha!

So let me recount my weekend. Friday night, Kristina and I went to celebrate my marathon victory. (Over the 500 or so people behind me, never mind the 35,000 in front of me.) When I got home from work, I made myself a nice, icy Martini. Then we had a nice dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant. (and a margarita.) Then a beer at our neighborhood bar (where I got heaps of “congratulations” and “wow”s from the bar staff and friends. That was nice.) After that, we went across the river to my favorite bar in New Orleans (and a rare treat since we take the ferry over, so it’s kind of a pain to get there), the Crown & Anchor, an authentic British pub. Had some pints there and met my male alter ego, George. Eerie, it was. I’ve never met someone who is as big of an Anglophile as I am. It was really cool to talk to him.

Okay, now I need to stop. I am now feeling the effects of the Vicodin. Woooozy!

Crescent City Classic 10K Race Report – March 30, 2002

I suppose it wouldn’t be completely fair to call this a race report, because I really only treated it like a leisurely 6.2 mile run with Kristina. It was too hot and humid, not to mention crowded, to really run it like a race. Plus, I’m tapering! Don’t want to hurt myself!

It was a really fun race, and in spite of the weather, a world record was set. That’s kind of cool, being in a race where a world record was set. Our time was about 3x the world record setter’s. ha ha! We finished in 1:25:42 by my watch.

Splits:
1: 13:11
2: 13:18
3: 14:21 (ahh, here’s when we started to walk a bit more than just the water stops)
4: 13:55
5: 15:50 (huh? surely that mile was mismarked! ha ha, okay, maybe not)
6.2: 15:04 (yeah, we sped up a lot at the end)

So, overall, not bad. I mean, I can only get better now! I liked the distance, though. I’d like to do another 10K after the marathon. Unfortunately, there aren’t many in New Orleans. I’ll have to find one.

After the race Sarah had a crawfish boil. That was fun, but I still have heartburn from the spices. I’m such a wuss, I don’t have the constitution to eat spicy Louisiana food.

Yesterday morning, Kristina and I had an Easter egg hunt in each other’s rooms. It was fun. I got Pez. Then we went to brunch (it was my mom’s treat since she couldn’t come see me.) Yesterday evening I went for my 3 mile run, really scheduled for today, but I needed to get out of the house and the weather was gorgeous.

Chris got his confirmation stuff on Saturday. I got my travel documents. We each need what the other has received. I hope I get my race confirmation stuff today. Woo hoo! Chris’s number is 26108. 😀

Oh no, it’s April Fool’s Day. I must remember not to listen to anything anyone says. Very important. I am not gullible!
